I have a macbook pro and there is a slot on the left side, I think it's for cards? But no regular cards would fit, what does fit? What kind of things do you plug in there? I have no idea.

I am looking at buying either a MBA 1.86 SSD, or a MBP. Given the new graphics card in the MBA I was wondering if the following apps work well?
- GIMP / Photoshop (very basic stuff done on them. Image size is usually A4)
- Parallel / XP pro
- AutoCAD (in Parallel. Again just basic stuff)
- iMovie (edit together short films of my daughter)
I use other packages, but I know they will be fine. This will be a secondary machine to my pc so I will only use it on holiday or when I go to meetings.
When unpluged, my 15' pro always use AMD praphic makes my battery only work for 2-3 hours. Is there a way to stop computer using AMD graphic card when i'm not playing game???

I would think that Apple might be able to squeeze a SD Slot in there to make the MBA even better. Also, the Rev-D should have the SD-Card Slot and a standard 4GB RAM.

Why doesen't the 17inch MBP have an SD CARD Slot and 4 USB PORT'S? Can we look forward to seeing this in the next update?
Also I think the Baseline MBP (13inch) should have at least 3 USB Ports too! For the 15 inch It should have 4 also.
I'm still trying to decide whether or not to give up my expresscard slot for an SD card slot. If I could figure out something useful to do with it, that would persuade me. I don't do hard core photography yet, and if I did, I could always just USB the camera.Does anyone use the SD card slot for something other than photography? I figured maybe it could be used like a floppy drive to organize certain projects or files but those could always be backed up to CD/ DVD. Not to mention, if you store the files on your hard drive, time machine would back them up.

Following the information in this apple support document, the speed of my internal card reader is 480Mb/s. Depending upon how you convert bits to bytes, that should be in the 57-60MB/s range.
Anyone know I can get it running at the max?
I got a late 2008 MBP and recently my logic board got exchanged due to my graphic card failure. However, since the work is done, a very annoying problem occurred. When I put my hand on my palm rest (right side, the hard ware side), it sounds like I am squeezing the whole thing down and it will make some very wired noises. It sounds like cracking or sth. I bring it in apple store twice and they said they do not hear anything. Anybody have a idea about this issue? Thank you very much.

I stick SD cards into the slot - close Image Capture - in Finder it's listed - I can copy files off of it - but there is no way to put anything on it. I always get a "no space available" message. I put a brand new 2GB SD card into this slot and I cannot get one picture onto it - no space available. I went to my Windows7 desktop - stuck it in - drag and dropped over 500 pictures on it. EASY. Took 15 seconds. Now - my Apple - that costs 4 times as much - how do I achieve this on this machine - or can I ?

My usb slots and sd card slot is no longer working in Windows 7 on my macbook pro. I've tried reinstalling the bootcamp drivers but it doesn't help. My firewire 800 works fine with my lacie external hard drive. Anyone got any ideas how to fix this?

i just got my brand new macbook pro 15" 2.66 ghz i7, 4 gb ram, high res, 500 gb 7200 rpm hdd, and I am ecstatic this computer is SO fast it blow my mind all over the table, the question i have is about the SD card slot, is there limit on data transfer for the SD card slot or is it limited by the speed of the card? i have a 16 GB sandisk extreme 2 that transfers @ 15 mb/s and a 4 GB sandisk extreme 3 that transfers @ 30 mb/s so can i transfer at those speeds or is it buffered? i tried importing 1 GB i had on the slower card and it transferred extremely fast but i cannot remember how fast the usb 2.0 was because i never really paid much attention.

I "zapped" (or reset) the PRAM and reset the SMC, and it worked for a minute but can't get it to work again. This seems to only happen about half the time it boots up, otherwise it appears normal. Sometimes it totally fails to wake up from sleep. I have been able to use Remote Desktop to gain access and have taken a screenshot of graphics card in about this mac when it has played up. It is a 2008 mac pro with 10.5.8. The graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 2600.
