Mac Pro :: RAM Modules Must All Be Of The Same Manufacturing?

Jan 16, 2010

I want to know if the wool is being pulled over my eyes by OWC. The site says that their 4GB modules for a Mac Pro Intel Xeon Quad-Core 2.66MHz can only be put into the tower if the original Apple modules are first removed. Something makes me think that this is a salesman's bluff. Anyone know for sure? Sorry if an answer to this question has already been given elsewhere.

Hardware :: All Time Computer Bag Manufacturing - ?

Aug 23, 2009

There have been a few bag topics lately so I thought it would be cool to share our favorite bags & manufacturers. I've owned over 75 computer bags since 2001 since I used to review bags for a popular computer magazine but it's always fun to find new stuff.Manufacturers: (in order of favorite)http://www.chromebagsstore.com/ (Hipster - Bicycle Bags)http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/home (more messenger bags)http://www.goincase.com/ (simple but high quality and affordable bags)http://www.rickshawbags.com/ (messenger bags w/ laptop holders. Comfortable and eco-friendly So yeah those are my favorites and I'm probably using one of each of them a few days out of the month depending on what I'm carrying. What are your favorite all-time computer bags?

Software :: Microsoft Office For Mac 2011 Sent To Manufacturing

Sep 10, 2010

Microsoft announced Friday that Office for Mac 2011 is now classified as "Release to Manufacturing." The software should be on track for release by the end of October as previously announced. The Mac Business Unit team at Microsoft published a celebratory post on their blog Friday announcing that they had "signed off on final testing" and sent the product to production. This latest release was two and a half years in the making, with team members in Redmond, Silicon Valley, Beijing, Dublin Tokyo. Office for Mac 2011 should be Microsoft's "best release yet," according to Product Unit Manager Geoff Price, who authored the post. Key features added include Outlook for Mac, co-authoring, ribbons, cloud-based storage, in-document photo editing.

Macworld reported earlier that online retailer Amazon had an Oct. 26 availability date listed on its website, but the release date has since been removed. Microsoft had announced in August that the product would ship by the end of October. Customers who purchase Office 2008 for Mac between Aug. 1, 2010 and Nov. 30, 2010 are eligible for a free upgrade. All other users will have to purchase the standalone versions. Prices start at $119 for the Home and Student version, which lacks Outlook, and $199 for the Home and Business version. An Academic version will also be offered to qualifying students and educators for $99. For more, see AppleInsider's previous coverage of Office for Mac 2011:

PowerPC :: Use Different Processors On Motherboard?

Jun 24, 2008

I was recently given a non working G5 dual 2.5ghz machine. It is a quad core machine with the Delphi liquid cooling system. After some investigating I found it had a coolant leak. All the fans and lights come on as well as the bootup chime. I think (hoping) that the motherboard and power supply are still good. My question is this:

Can I use different processors on this motherboard? Lets say a dual 2.5ghz non-quad core processor assembly. Am I making sense? I am very new to the Mac world and would appreciate any help on this issue.

MacBook Pro :: Doing Motherboard Diagnostic?

Jul 26, 2010

I've been experiencing a variety of problems with my peripheral devices. At first it started with my monitor and I thought it was going out... it was having lines (darker lines, like flickering) all over the screen... but then I realized this happened when I plugged something into my computer... so for example if my external monitor is on, and I plug in my firewire soundcard it starts to flickr...

Then it started to do it when I would plug in my printer... now if I plug in my firewire soundcard my monitor turns on and off... and I'm having sync issues with my soundcard.

I wiped my computer, reset the SMC and the PRAM and NVRAM. How do I test if my mother board is crapping out?

MacBook Pro :: How To Test Mac Motherboard

May 6, 2012

What is the best was to diagnose possible motherboard faults on a Mac? I'm having various problems which appear to be hardware related (i.e. re-formatting, re-loading OSX, etc don't seem to fix them and the problems appear at different times running different processes) so want to check the motherboard out.Typical problems are a USB hard drive suddening going off-line, the DVD burner suddenly resetting itself for no reason, screen not redrawing properly etc. and all these only happen occasionally. The only test I can find is a RAM test (various programs allow this including Tech Tool Pro 6) but is there a way to test other components?

PowerPC :: Finding Motherboard Information?

Nov 24, 2010

I have Powermac G4 AGP (M7628LL/A) that has the AGP slot without the 'power-supplying' tab at the front of the slot. Therefore my NVIDIA GeForce2 MX video card (ADC/VGA) will only enable me to use the VGA outlet, and not the ADC. I have two Studio Display Monitors (M7649) and cannot use them.

I need to know (1) What other monitors will work with this G4 (in case I cannot fulfill #2), and most importantly (2) Which motherboard can I replace this one with that will enable me to use the video card in it's fullest?

MacBook :: Battery Connector To Motherboard?

Dec 18, 2010

Im fixing up a macbook, and there was problems with the battery connector. So I pulled it out. But on the LB there were only 9 holes (6 on one side, 3 on the other) and no hole where the 7th ones should be. And on the connector in those spots it was the same thing, but what is even weirder, is that it doesnt even look like the pins were broken off, just that there was nothing there, and on the top it doesnt have any solder on those points. Any ideas what to do and how to do it??? And if you want i can post pictures.

PowerPC :: Using G4 400mhz - Red Light On Motherboard

Jul 26, 2007

I bought 4 G4 towers of eBay for 85.. none have Hdd's so havent tried them out yet (two also have no graphic cards) I got a mix of ram size and speed (pc100/pc133) however thats not my question

Next to the ram slots theres a red light that comes on, is this normal? I've tried to do some research on it and some people say it is, others say it isnt.

I plan to sell them off again on ebay but I did it mainly as a project to keep the G4's alive. Any suggestions on graphic cards (cheap ones too)?

OS X :: Motherboard Is Shutting Off At Random Times

Apr 11, 2009

I have an old HP Pavilion 700 that I am having trouble with. A few months ago, I replaced its power supply because the fan inside of it would start up for about a second and then shut off. The problem I am having now is the fan (shown in pic) connected to the motherboard is shutting off at random times and causes the external display to go blank. But the fan inside the power supply will always stay on though. Sometimes, I can get the computer completely booted up for about 10 minutes and use it just like normal before this happens. Other times, I can only get as far as the startup screen before the fan and screen shut off.

OS X :: Upgrading Hardware With The Wrong Motherboard?

Sep 6, 2009

I'm running a macbook pro (2.4ghz intel core 2 duo). I had bought snow leopard however my nvidia graphic card gave out and I had to take it for repair. Long story short when the repairs were done they had replaced it with a 2.2 ghz intel core 2 duo with 128mb of video ram for the 8600gt rather then 256mb. Being the very anxious person I am, I want to know if I can upgrade my computer with the wrong motherboard to snow leopard now or if I should wait to get my motherboard swapped and would there be any difference in the performance if I was to do it with my 2.2ghz rather then my 2.4 ghz.

I am running OSX 10.4.11 currently btw
