PowerPC :: Boost Of Speed / Reception From Wireless Card?

Aug 17, 2008

I got myself a PowerBook G4, trying to weigh my options as far as upgrades go. The airport inside this laptop gives me horrible reception, always has, always will. Would a wireless card give me a significant boost of speed/reception? If you have experience with it, please add your input as I'm trying to justify this purchase if it will have benefits. Example, I'm in my bedroom, 2 floors down is the wireless router (not that far away), and sometimes reception drops to 0...I'd like to have a solid connection.

Software :: Parallels Won't Connect To Internet Via Verizon Wireless Modem?

OK, I am a newbie, as the name implies. I purchased a MacBook Pro with supposedly Leopard? Mac Os X (somewhere on the machine it said Tiger - does it matter?), with Parallels installed by the friendlies at MacMall. I start Windows and cannot connect to the Verizon wireless express card which is working just fine. The Parallel's User Manual is a joke... how do I make this thing work?

MacBook Pro :: Can't Connect To Internet - Using Wireless Modem To Connect To The Netgear Wgt624

Dec 27, 2007

I have a blackbook (intel core 2 duo) and I can connect to my landlord's wireless network (they have a netgear wgt624) but I can't actually use the web (Safari or Firefox will just "think"). I've tested the diagnostics and it confirms that my mac can connect to the network, but it cannot connect to the internet. The network uses WPA personal and it has a 19-aphanumeric passphrase.

*Also - would it be possible for me to extend the wireless range (and make it possible to browse the web) if I used my own 2wire wireless modem to connect to the netgear wgt624?

PowerPC :: Wireless Internet Keeps Going Out On G4

Jan 5, 2008

So I got a PowerBook G4(1.5 GHz, 512 MB RAM, a superdrive, and an airport card) for Christmas. Before I opened it as a present, my cousin did a clean install of Leopard. My wireless internet goes out every time I try to go to a new page or even refresh it. It's extremely annoying. In order to get it back on, I have to turn my airport card off, and then on again. I was thinking it was my airport card, but then the other day, I went out of town to a friends house.

My internet didnt go out once. I just got back today, and it keeps going out. My home internet is locked with a password, but my friends internet wasn't. However, I previously had a PC laptop and the internet was fine, my cousin has a MacBook Pro, and my brother just got a MacBook. All of them connect to the internet wirelessly and they don't have any problem with their internet. I don't know what to do.

OS X :: AirPort Extreme Can't Find Any Wireless Signals?

Feb 21, 2010

My MacBook Pro's Airport Extreme card usually recognizes ~15 wireless signals (I live in an apartment building), now it picks up none.

If I try to manually access my own wireless network (which works fine for my flatmates' computers), it says "There was an error joining the AirPort network". It doesnt seem to care that the network normally has a password, it just gets an error.

PowerPC :: Wireless Internet Slow Or Sometimes Not Even Work On G4

Apr 18, 2009

There may be an easy explanation for this, but for someone who is new to Mac's entirely, it's proving to be difficult. I recently acquired a powerbook g4 15" powerpc 1.5ghz with 1gb ram and 80gb hd. I'm a computer technician at work, go figure, but only for pc's. The wireless works flawlessly on the mac at work, t1 connection. When I arrive home, my wireless is so slow and sometimes doesn't even work.

I have comcast cable internet, which is really fast on my desktop and two pc laptops. So with my comcast, I have their issued cable modem and a linksys wireless router. Any thoughts as to why this is so slow? Takes me like, 5 minutes to load facebook. I have Mac OSX 10.5 +, not sure what exact version. I think 10.5.6? I'm not connected to anyone elses internet and my DNS are the same on my PC.

I have been a mac user since 2006. Yesterday, I purchased an iBook G4 for my father, who I have converted from Windows to Macintosh. We are 99% satisfied. Everything works great except the wireless internet. Whenever the computer shuts off or goes to sleep, we have a difficult time re-connecting to the wireless internet. After five minutes of clicking on the wireless signal (at the top of the screen) and turning it on and off, we are able to get on. Once we connect, it does not seem to disconnect.

OS X :: Network Keeps Dropping Internet Signals / Happens Randomly In No Sequence

Apr 9, 2009

My problem is I keep loosing 'Internet' signal on my network, the network still runs fine and all computers (macbook, imac and macbook pro) are still connected to the network and can still transfer files but there is no internet connection. Im not 100% sure but this seems to happen once more than one computer is on the network at once. It happens randomly and their seems to be no real sequence or pattern as to when it happens.

I was adviced to change the ports on my router from 11 to say 6 or others, this didnt seem to help, and i have since thought as my imac is hard wired with an ethernet cable this wouldn't effect this computer as it is not connected over wireless but this computer IS still affected.

I have tried numerous hard resets and fimrware updates etc but no joy, the router i'm using is a Belkin URL

OS X :: Will A Faster Processor Boost Internet Speed On My G4

New to the Mac world here, and really diggin my G4,which I got for free. But I need help with a frustrating situation. Here's the specs: Powermac Gigabit Ethernet dual 500 mHz G4,40 GB primary and 160 GB slave HDs,2 GB RAM,and a fresh install of Tiger with almost nothing downloaded, basically,a brand new machine. The issue: both firefox and Safari are sludgy on internet speed--watching Youtube videos, using Facebook, etc. It's not an ish with my router or modem--my older PC's blaze. it's really frustrating, and I've maxed out the RAM,so I want to know if an upgrade to a 1.8 or 2.0 processor will alleviate this problem once and for all,or if I have a boat anchor. Honestly,I don't do hardcore computing, just burn DVDs,a little photoshop, and play on the internet. There's no reason it should be so damn sluggish watchibng streaming video or simply writing on someone's 'wall' on Facebook.

Hardware :: How To Set Up Two Time Capsules & Wireless Signals In Separate Rooms?

Jan 3, 2011

I have two Time Capsules, TC1 and TC2. TC1 is the base unit, connected to the modem and broadcasting a wireless network from my bedroom. I want to set up the second Time Capsule, TC2, to pick up the in the living room. In that way, I can connect my TV through an Ethernet cable directly to TC2.I keep screwing this up. TC1 is set up to "create a wireless network," which it does. The security I'm using is WEP transitional, for 802.11a/n - 802.11b/g/n.Currently TC2 is set up as a bridge, but it only works when it's tethered directly through an Ethernet cable coming from one of the LAN ports on TC1 into the the singular WAN port on TC2. And it only works when TC2's wireless mode is "Create a wireless network." I've tried various bridge/wireless configurations but nothing quite works. I consulted Apple's pdf on "Designing Airport Networks 10-5" but the information on creating a WDS network doesn't apply. When I try to make TC1 the base unit for the WDS network, I don't get that option.

I'll get a message saying something like "can't connect to Internet." I first thought it was my modem but all the lights are lit up and it shows I do have an Internet connection. I get the same problem with my ipod touch 4g as well. Only on the ipod's side it will try and connect but fails to do so at all. PowerPC :: AirPort Not Detecting Networks - No Signals

Feb 8, 2008

Reason for the ? is because I'm not sure if this is really a problem or not. Whenever I'm at school there are certain places (inside classrooms mostly) I get either of these scenarios:
1. I get no signal whatsoever and my AirPort doesn't even detect the network
2. My AirPort will be able to detect the school's network but when I try to connect it says "<Network name> cannot be found"
3. If I do connect I'll get such terrible 1 bar signal that it's impossible for me to do anything.

Some key facts that you must know:
-Everyone else is able to connect! i.e. A student to my left, with the newer MacBook, will have a strong connectivity, and to my right will be student to my right with a Dell and has full strength connectivity. What is the deal here?
-I have a wireless router that I use at home and it connects to it no problems at all for the entire time I've had it. Full strength connectivity. I have the last generation of the 12" PB 1.5.

PowerPC :: RAM Upgrade - Expected Speed Boost?

Jan 7, 2008

I have a 1.33Ghz 12' Powerbook with 768mb Ram. I'd like to upgrade this. As I understand it, the max RAM for this machine is 1GB. I'm just wondering if anyone could give me an idea as to how much of a speed boost I could expect from this upgrade? is it worth doing? Will it make a difference? Spoke to Apple technician this morning, and I think he said he would take out the 512mb RAM chip and install a 1Gb one - but wouldn't this give me 1.25GB, approximately? I didn't think this machine could take that. He left me a little confused. Have just found out that I can actually max my machine out to 1.25GB for a fairly cheap price. Seems worth doing then, yes? Anybody made a jump from 768 - 1.25 before? Did it make a big difference?
