OS X :: AirPort Extreme Can't Find Any Wireless Signals?

Feb 21, 2010

My MacBook Pro's Airport Extreme card usually recognizes ~15 wireless signals (I live in an apartment building), now it picks up none.

If I try to manually access my own wireless network (which works fine for my flatmates' computers), it says "There was an error joining the AirPort network". It doesnt seem to care that the network normally has a password, it just gets an error.

Information:
Max OS X v 10.4.11
AirPort Extreme
firmware version 1.4.4

OS X :: Airport Extreme Setup - Can't Find Wireless Device

Jan 1, 2010

I bought an Airport Extreme and am trying to set it up. I installed Airport Utility and have my Airport turned on. The problem I'm having is that Airport Utility is saying it can't find any wireless devices. I have the Airport's Internet WAN port connected to my wall's ethernet port and the Airport's status light is solid green. What I want to do is get a wireless signal from the ethernet port on my wall. Everything in the set up guide and everything I find online has to do with setting the Airport up with a DSL or Cable Modem.

I just bought a new mbp and my old 17" MacBook pro 2006 2007 models screen was not really working so I decided to take the screen off and use it as a kitchen computer with an external monitor. Hardware :: Use Airport Extreme Base Station - To Transmit Signals?

Feb 11, 2009

Somehow this is not clear to me. I am looking to make the switch from PC to Apple and would like to start with a laptop. As i live in an old farmhouse (with thick 2-3 feet walls), I don't think one airport extreme base station will not cover then whole place. Therefore, I wonder if I can use the airport extreme base station and use the smaller airport extreme base stations as a jumping point to transmit the signal.

Can i just buy another standard $40 wireless G router and "extend" my wireless network? if so, how easy would this be to accomplish? would it be as simple as hooking up the $40 router with my airport extreme using via ethernet cable so that it extends it? update: I am looking at this router...would this accomplish my purpose? MacBook Pro :: Suddenly All Of The Wireless Signals Disappear From AirPort Menu Up On Menu Bar

Dec 27, 2009

I've realized that sometimes I "lose" my wireless signal. I am not using an AirPort router (I'm using Linksys, if that's at all helpful). I've noticed that suddenly all of the wireless signals disappear from the AirPort menu up on the menu bar, except the network that I am connected to (i.e., I only see my router's name there). It also becomes impossible for me to browse the internet, so what I've done to troubleshoot this is disable the AirPort, put the computer to sleep, and disconnect/reconnect my router. When I turn it on, it seems to work. I've also tried simply disabling and then re-enabling AirPort, but it doesn't work after that.

Hardware :: Airport Utilities Can't Find My Airport Extreme

Jul 9, 2010

I have a Macbook (white unibody) running Snow Leopard. I have a personal wireless network using an Airport Extreme and I have an external hard drive (WD) connected to the Airport Extreme. I use this hard drive for my Time Machine Back ups.

I just got back from a trip and tried to back up my time machine. I got the error that the back up disk is not available. I then tried to open the airport utilities.

It tells me that "Airport Utilities is unable to find any Airport Wireless devices". I find this doubly strange because I have no problem connecting to the internet on this wireless network which supposedly does not exist.

OS X :: How Do I Set Up The Airport Extreme With My DSL For Wireless?

Jul 6, 2009

I don't understand something very basic about the internet...

I have been using a 2WIRE wireless box plugged into my phone line/DSL for four years. I knocked it over and it doesn't seem like it is broadcasting a wireless signal anymore, so I bought an Airport Extreme Base Station, 2007 square model used.

I don't understand how to set it up... Can't I just throw away the 2WIRE thing now? When I try to use the Airport Extreme thing, it does not recognize the internet DSL signal or something.

I just want to use the Airport Extreme as a dsl wireless router alone.

I don't want the 2WIRE thing. The 2WIRE thing is usable when I plug my ethernet cord into it, but it is no longer broadcasing a wireless signal.

How do I set up the Airport Extreme with my DSL for wireless?

Sorry this is so stupid. I just don't understand what to do at all.

OS X :: New Wireless Box Not Work With AirPort Extreme

Nov 4, 2010

We've just moved house and signed-up to O2 Broadband. They've supplied a Thomson wireless box that plugs into the phone socket. This box, however, doesn't work with my Apple TV or Airport Extreme/Airport Disk. I've tried to make my Extreme 'extend the network' but it says the network cannot be extended.

How can I ditch this O2 wireless box and get back to my Apple-based network (considering the broadband enters my house through a phone socket rather than a Cat-5 ethernet cable that the Extreme can accept)? I want my AppleTV/Airport disk back as I had in my old house!!

Hardware :: Can't Connect PC Wireless 802.11g / Airport Extreme

Apr 26, 2005

My powerBook has no problem connecting, but the Airport Admin utility for Windows XP can't "see" the base station.

Clicking "Start" then "connect to" and then "show all connections" and then the name for my Airport network, a "choose a wireless network" screen comes up, a strength meter (all bars on) displays, and a reminder that a network key is required. Clicking "connect" on this screen shows a "wireless network connection" thingy -- but it never actually connects.

Hardware :: Using Airport Extreme As A Wireless Server

May 18, 2009

First post so bear with me. I use a 1Tb Time Capsule as my wireless router. On the other side of the room I have (wirelessly connected) my PS3, TV, Wii, and a Helios network media server. These are not all wireless N devices.

I also have a previous generation Airport Extreme.

Question. Can I wirelessly connect my Time Capsule to the Airport Extreme (on the same side of the room as the PS3, etc.) and then connect PS3, etc. to the Airport Extreme via the ethernet connections ?

If this is possible would I (as I hope) get better network throughput as the only wireless connection would be at N speeds ?

Hardware :: Setting AirPort Extreme To Wireless N Only

Quick question does anyone know how to set the Airport Extreme to wireless N only? I understand it will be wireless N only if I connect to the 5 ghz band. Problem is my Netgear Wireless N Bridge is 2.4 ghz only, and when it connects to the Airport extreme for some reason it only connects at wireless G. I do not see an option in Airport Utility for it to broadcast in Wireless N only. My options are 1) Automatic 2) 802.11a/n-802.11b/g 3) 802.11a-802.11b/g

Also, would I be able to do this with an airport express? From what I see it seems like the express doesn't support hard drives.

Software :: Airport Extreme Cannot Find Server

Apr 1, 2009

I have an airport extreme that was working perfectly until a few months ago when I started having problems going to a web site [URL] that I have visited numerous times in the past. I get the following error message: Safari cant open the page [URL] because it cant find the server golfsmith. When I disconnect the Ethernet cable from the AEBS and connect it directly to the computer I am able to open this site. My Macbook Pro responds the same way wirelessly and when I go to another friends house I can connect to that site with my MBP. BTW my friends cannot connect to that site via my AEBS but can via their home router

I have reset the AEBS to factory defaults several times, restarted my Comcast cable modem then AEBS then iMac in the order specified. I have also tried changing my DNS settings to both opendns and DNS Advantage but I have the same results with both.

I also have a dashboard item that mysteriously stopped checking local gas prices and may be related to the problem. Also I suspect that sometimes when I click on a link in a search engine and get that message is the AEBS problem again.

I'm lucky if I can get more than five feet away from my Linksys wireless-G router before the Airport Extreme says it's getting no bars. My son also has an Airport Extreme card in his iMac; connection is always iffy, even though his computer is barely four feet from the router.
