MacBook Pro :: Fan Connector Pins Broke Right Off Logic Board

Nov 26, 2009

It happened when I was trying to install my right fan. The plug was too big for the connector and the connector just broke right off the logic board. I now see the solder points. They are too small for a normal soldering iron so I can't solder the wires directly on. What are my options now? I hope I won't have to replace the logic board considering it's working perfectly except for this one part.

PowerPC :: Fixing IBook G4 Broken Power Connector?

Jul 15, 2008

My sister has just broken off the central pin to her iBook G4 which is now wedged inside the connector. Obviously the ac adapter is screwed and needs replacing but short of pulling out the offending pin from the inside of the connector, would I have to replace the power supply? How complicated is this? Cost? Any guides etc?

PowerPC :: Power Button Cord Connector Broken Off EMac Logic Board?

Nov 28, 2009

I was attempting to replace the hard drive in my eMac, but for instructions I HAD to follow some darn take-apart guide that said pull out the connection for the power button cord from the logic board. I didn't know that it was SOLDERED in there, and now I can't complete putting my eMac back together without doing so.

Can this be fixed without having to send it to Apple? Does it HAVE to inolve soldering, or is there an alternative? Is there a way I can temporary have my eMac power on until I get the connector fixed?

MacBook Pro :: Display Adaptor Does Not Fit (Removing Pins)

May 24, 2010

I have a new MacBook Pro (latest model) and I bough a mini display to DVI adaptor that I use to connect an external display. Now, I need to connect a projector (VGA) and I found that I have a DVI To VGA adaptor that I used with my old macbook pro. When I tried to connect the adaptor, surprise! it does not fit! (because it has four extra pins. What happens if I remove those pins? Will it work? or I will have to also buy a mini display port to VGA Adaptor?

MacBook Pro :: Free Apple Display Connector?

Jun 28, 2010

Was thinking about accessories for my MBP and I was thinking about the display port. What I want to do is when on vacations plug my MBP into the TV and show the pictures I took. I know Apple used to give them to you for free when you got a new MacBook or MacBook Pro. But since most were wasted, they stopped. So now, if you call Apple Support or whatever, can you get one for free per request? I really don't want to pay $30 for this little cable.

MacBook :: Receiving AM Radio Via Display Port Connector?

Mar 12, 2009

A few weeks ago, I discovered that when my Mini Displayport to VGA connector was plugged in, I heard a buzz through my speakers. It didnt bother me that much, so I just dealt with it. However, today I was plugging my external speakers in, and when the connector was about half way in.. I started to hear audio that I knew wasnt on my computer. Turns out it was commentary on a college basketball game. I started to listen some more, and discovered that it was 1530am. Seeing as I use just a standard set of 5.1 computer speakers... I found this to be extremely odd, so I figured id share this with everyone.

PowerPC :: IBook G4 - Fixing Power Cable Connector?

Jan 4, 2008

This is quite an interesting situation I'm in.

Today during High School, my first period, I noticed a Mac iBook G4 in the recycle pile used by my schools Tech department. I decided to swoop it up and give it a whirl, and see for myself what the problem with it was.

When I first powered it on, I was receiving a scrambled signal on my display. It was merely a white screen with lines in it, after a while of tinkering, even grabbing a few mac knowledgeable buddies of mine to see if they could do anything. It seemed like this would drag on, and I would not fix it.

In the end, we ended up tapping the screen and seeing a faint hope of light, that light was the appearance of the desktop! Unfortunately, the screen soon vanished back into it's scrambled state. Upon further tapping, we could only figure it was a problem with the connection of the display to the logic board.

The power button cable that runs from the power button on the casing into the logic board has no connector on the Logic Board itself, now I have an old logic board that whilst being broken has a connector on it but I really don't want to have to solder the connector on for fear of breaking the logic board.

OS X :: Installing Snow Leopard On Macbook With Broken Display

Sep 1, 2009

Alright first of all, Hello to you all, I've been reading this forum for a couple of month even though this is my first intervention and i need a tip. Alright my situation is the following: I have:

-Macbook Pro Unibody
-Macbook C2D
-Snow leopard Disc x2
-Snow leopard image I cloned to a hard drive partition.

The situation is I have bought two licenses for Snow leopard because i have two macs. The macbook pro is the computer i use everyday and is fully functional. The macbook however took a big drop about a year ago and the display was totally broke along with the DVD and the hard drive. I retrieved an old HDD i had with leopard installed and put it in the macbook along with an external display and i now use this computer as a media center. The problem is i want to install snow leopard on it. The DVD drive is broken hence the reason i made a disc image and i wanted to install from the disc image. SO i restart the macbook with the alt key and as expected, the image from the usb drive is detected and i launch the install. The problem comes from the fact that when the installation starts, the external display is set as secondary display and i cant control the installation which is displayed wont eh broken display. Is there a way to remotely install SL or to set the external display as only display at boot through holding a bunch of keys?

MacBook Pro :: Broken Display And Now Seltzer / Spritzed Keyboard

Jul 27, 2010

The weary saga of an unhappy Macbook Pro. I helped my mom buy a 2.2Ghz Santa Rosa MBP from a fellow I know who was upgrading. Decent shape, but apple care was expired: $500. All was good until she dropped it and cracked the display. She brought it with her to visit me and see about my replacing the screen. My daughter went in to say goodnight to her the other night and knocked a can of seltzer on it! Now the keyboard is not working. The computer boots up fine, runs applications fine, works with an external monitor and the trackpad works, but only a few keys work and those that do repeat.

So, the screen: replacing screen seems to be $200-250 in parts plus my labor (ifixit tutorial looks daunting! I'll replace a HD any old day, but this makes me a bit apprehensive) or $350 labor included from techrestore site. The keyboard: A replacement keyboard from ifixit is $87. Is there a way to tell if it's just the keyboard or a problem on the logic board other than taking mine apart and swapping out parts (I have the same model)? Is the screen replacement that difficult? I'm reasonably capable, but it looks daunting. Putting $3-450 into the computer seems to be still worth it since she can't afford a new computer (not even this really) and other than the replaceable broken parts it's still a solid machine.

OS X Mavericks :: 10.9.4 - Thunderbolt Display For 6630M (Mac Mini Mid-2011) Broken

Jul 1, 2014

10.9.4 has failed to fix what was fine in 10.9.2 and broken starting with 10.9.3 -- a display (Dell U3011) connected to a Mac Mini mid-2011 via either a DisplayPort cable or dual-DVI adapter suffers from frequent loss of signal. The elsewhere-prescribed-juju of changing spaces, unplugging and replugging cables, ... works randomly and for short duration.

HDMI connection works (producing non-native resolution on the U3011).

This was filed as bug 17083693 and closed as a duplicate of 16197028.

PowerPC :: Broken OCed B/W G3/400 ?

May 29, 2007

So I got a BW 350 new back in 1999 and immediately OCed. I tried OCing it to 450 and it didn't work. I tried 400mHz and everything worked fine, its been that way ever since.

The BW has served me very well and I have since maxed the RAM and put a Radeon 7000 GPU into it and was using it as a TV media computer. It was working ok/good and so I thought I'd try to OC it again to 450 to see if I could get it working and squeeze a bit more juice out of it. God what a stupid idea.

It wouldn't work at 450 so I set it back to 400, it wouldn't work!!! Even back at 350 it won't work. God I can't believe I did this. I don't have the original block of jumpers that came with the computer (I know what box its in, but just can't find it).

Would replacing all the jumpers give it a chance at life again?

Mac Mini :: DVI To Red / White And Yellow Pins Possible?

I am trying to connect a core solo 1.5ghz Intel Mac Mini to a TV. Now the TV is old so the only connection type I can do is either scart or the 'phono' type red white and yellow pins that you have (yellow for video and other two for stereo sound). Is there any type of adaptor available? And if so (because I think there is). How will I know that my mac mini DVT can output to those for a video source? Do I need to know about graphics cards details or anything? Or will anything support it?

PowerPC :: Headphone Out Broken - Replacement Possible?

I mean its taken a beating over the years. Its just that I use it to listen to music and audio out for watching dvds, so its no good for that anymore. I have an external audio card but thats no good for when I am mobile and I use the laptop all over the place. Is there a way to fix this or would it need a whole logic board replacement? Can I use a audio card that fits into those card slots on the left hand side of the Powerbook. What are those cards called again?

PowerPC :: Screen Broken Off A Powerbook G4

Nov 7, 2006

i have a friend who has a powerbook g4 (black keyboard) that was sold to him for very cheap, unfortunately the screen was torn off the base of the computer. Its in perfect running condition but he cant take it anywhere because the screen needs to be supported against a wall as it cant stand on its own. Is there any inexpensive way to fix the screen and restick back to the base of the laptop and if the only way to go is get a professional to do it, how much would it cost him to get it fix. He got the computer for 50 bucks so having the computer work perfectly even if he has to spend at most 300 dollars would be great.

PowerPC :: Broken Ibook LCD Screen

Aug 25, 2007

i had my laptop on the floor in front of the recliner i was sitting it, i took the remote that i had put on the chair and fumbled it as i took it off of the chair. It fell about 2.5 feet straight onto my laptop and hit the screen. It bounced off of the the case in-between the hinge and the screen and then hit the screen about 2.5 inches up from the bottom. It made a crack from where it hit all the way to the top corner going at about a 45 degree angle to the left. Then the cat ran out of the room when i started cursing about my fumbling. There aren't any dead pixels some how, but it does have several cracks. Is there a plastic shield before the LCD layer? if anybody has a spare 14" ibook LCD screen from a 1.42GHz i book, i have money if you don't need it. Its not under warranty by the way.
