I've just bought a MBP 15" and am wondering if I can connect a 24 inch monitor too make it a extended display. Can someone make a recommendation on what monitor (24 inch) display to buy? And Which connector to get so I get full resolution on the external display?
View 7 RepliesJust bought a new MacBook (OSX 10.6.1 w/4GB RAM) and ViewSonic 22" monitor. When I hooked it up (via DVI) and loaded the VewSonic drivers, I got the max resolution of 1920 x 1080. Earlier today, I came back and woke up my MacBook - and got only a snowy screen on the monitor and couldn't get anything on the laptop. Restarted and now, even though the display shows 1920 x 1080, it is not providing that resolution. The max for the laptop shows 1280 x 800 and that is about what is showing on the monitor as well. I keep resetting the resolution on the monitor at 1920 x 1080 - but the screen size doesn't change.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have my MacBook hooked up to an external monitor of 1920 x 1080 resolution. I don't use the MacBook screen at all. Every time I turn on my MacBook it displays on the external monitor as it should, but at the MacBook's 1280 x 800 resolution, which obviously looks nasty and stretched on the big monitor. I fix this by simply putting the Mac to sleep and pressing a key on my keyboard to wake it up again; and it loads in the proper resolution. Is there a way to make it display 1920 x 1080 on boot up without having to sleep and wake every single time? Keeping my MacBook in sleep mode when not in use isn't an option.

I want to make a desktop setup on a budget and I'm wondering if my MBP will fill up this display at the complete resolution (1920 x 1080) and if it will function completely with the peripherals on the monitor. [URL]. Here is the display I'm looking at. Seems like a good deal, but I haven't done a lot of shopping around. I don't do graphic design and as I said, I'm on a budget, so the Apple displays are out of the question.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased the mini display port to DVI adapter and a Belkin DVI to HDMI cable, to plug into my MacBook & Samsung SyncMaster 2032MW monitor. However when I connect this all up the display resolution is appalling, blurry and doesnt fit the screen. I have tried all the available resolutions turned mirror-mode on & off and its still shockingly bad! Also tried this on my LG TV and still the same. I have a Dell laptop which I connect via HDMI and the resolution is amazing. I thought the MacBook would output the same?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got the latest 13" Macbook Air and hooked it up to my Apple 24 inch LED Cinema Display. It works great but I've noticed that the resolution is not the same as when I had my 2008 Unibody Macbook attached to it. Everything is bigger (i.e. lower resolution) when the MBA is connected. I went into Display Preferences and changed it to the highest resolution but it didn't change. It's not that big a deal, but I thought I'd ask and see if anyone had any suggestions on how to get better resolution on the cinema display. Or is it not possible with the new MBA connected?

I've hooked up my 30" Apple Cinema Display to the new iMac 27" and the highest resolution I'm getting as an option is 1280x800... The iMac correctly detects the ACD as a Cinema HD display but limits my resolution. Why oh why?!
Just bought a new 22' LG monitor and I have the Mini DisplayPort to VGA. When I connect my monitor to my MacBook all is OK until I try to chose the 1680x1050 which is the LG's prefered resolution. When I chose it, my monitor turns to black, then after a while it shows the picture for a second, then black again.. Is this a 9400m fault, or the VGA adapter fault?If I try a MiniDisplay port to DVI, will it work in 1680 x 1050?
All the other resolutions are shown ok..
I just purchased a Mac Mini and am using a DVI to HDMI cable to connect it to my 42" Sony KDF-E42A10. I am unable to achieve full-screen resolution and downloaded SwitchResX to manually adjust the display. Does anyone know the timing parameters for the Sony or how to achieve full-screen resoltuion?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI own an Apple 27" Core i7 iMac. I just bought a Dell 3008WFP (30" LCD Display) [URL]. It has full size display port, hdmi, vga and dvi. As you know though it's a 30" so it needs "dual-link" DVI from whatever is driving pixels to it. So the iMac, to my knowledge only has Mini Display Port, right? How do I get the iMac to push the 30" at full resolution?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just found out that if I use the "mirroring" mode, and I set the resolution to 1680x1050 and 60hz(my monitor max resolution/hz), it's all kinda blurry... But if I put in sleep mode ma MPB and wake it up "switching on" my bluetooth keyboard, the monitor in my MBP doesn't even start and it just use the external monitor. In this case, there's no more blurriness but the settings are the same! Then, I can even turn on my MBP monitor (pressing some random key on its keyboard) and nothing change, still no blurriness...
How can this happen? By the way, there is another funny issue: if I use this "trick", the applications that should run in "fullscreen" (not really fullscreen, just the window that use all the screen size), like iTunes, don't do it anymore....
I have a Macbook Pro 13 inch 2010 model hooked up to a NEC Multisync EA231 WMI external monitor. The monitor is supposed to have a resolution of 1920 X 1080, but my computer only recognizes 1600 x 900 as the highest resolution. I've tried both mirrored and extended desktop, and I've also hooked up the monitor through a DVI adaptor and through a displayport cable. An Apple support person suggested using a dual-link DVI adaptor, but according to the Apple site this shouldn't be necessary for 1920 x 1080 resolution (I've also heard that it's a buggy piece of hardware). Any suggestions for getting optimal resolution?

The HP 2304 widescreen monitor only works with windows mirrored and has poor resolution - nothing like the 1440 Mac tells me I'm getting. I've used the build HP display adjustments with no joy. HP does not have Mac drivers for this display.

I am using both displays and that is fine, however I would like to be able to change the font sizes in my 19" monitor, because the default one is too small. I have to get awfully close to the monitor. I am not sure how i can display it better. When I tried changing resolution from 1440x900 to others, I didn't make it right, is that the only way? All I want is for screens in this monitor to have larger fonts (all programs, whether its safari, chrome, mail, etc). I should mention I am a brand new mac user.

I just started using my MacBook with an external monitor, and love this new set up. But, I have a quick question. When I hook it up, my screen looks like an enlarged version of what's shown on my smaller MacBook screen. This is okay, but I'd like everything (dock, menu bar, etc.) to be the same size as on the MacBook screen, only with extra desktop space, if that makes sense. Currently, since everything is just enlarged, I don't feel like I have any extra screen real estate - windows and the dock take up the same amount of space relative to the screen size as they do on the MacBook. My resolutions are 1280 x 800 on the MacBook and 1280 x 720 on the external monitor. I tried playing around with different resolutions but keep getting a No Signal error on the monitor when I use anything else. I know this is kind of a difficult question but does anybody have any ideas?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I've had a 15" Unibody MBP since around November and I haven't been able to get it to work with my Hanns G 19" widescreen monitor. It should work at a 1440x900 resolution but its not even listed as an option when I hook it up. The monitor has both VGA and DVI inputs but I'm using the mini to VGA adapter (I picked up VGA to connect to a projector at school). I don't know if using the DVI adapter would do the trick or not and I'm not willing to waste $30 to find out as I'm a pretty poor college student at the moment.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI currently have a MBP1, 1 running 10.6.4 on an external monitor with the ideal resolution at 1920x1200. From time to time, when I wake my MBP from sleep through external keyboard/mouse to have it run solely on the external monitor, it sets the display at 1600x1200, so everything seems squished vertically. After a fresh reformat, the problem persists, though it is less frequent. It's just a minor annoyance that I can't seem to find a solution to fix permanently. I usually have to go to safe mode and adjust the resolution back to normal. Alternatively, only sometimes if I put it back to sleep and wake it up again with the external keyboard, it will detect the right settings.

Or perhaps that's the best for this monitor which admittedly is quite old. But when I go into my system preferences it shows option for higher resolutions but doesn't allow me to select one.

I have been having some problems with my Macbook Pro. I have a new BenQ screen connected to it via the Mini Display Port to VGA adapter from Apple. No matter what I do, I cant seem to be able to change the resolution to anything higher than 1280x1024, which is a pretty stupid resolution to have on a 27'' monitor. Sometimes when I plug it in, it gives me the option to change the resolution to 1920x1080.
But when I select it, the screen goes black and displays the message "No signal detected". Now, as it happens, I have a copy of windows installed on a partition of my hdd, and the screen works flawlessly on it. full HD with 75 Hertz. So that shows that it is not a hardware problem, it has to be a software problem. I tried everything, including reinstalling OS X, and deleting the "windowserver" files. no success.

I have a Samsung SB970 S27B970D 27-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor with native resolution of 2560x1440. When I connect it to my 2012 13" MacBook Pro via mini display port to DVI, I am unable to get anything better than 1080p.

As you can see, 2560 should be supported.
Also note that we have two different MBPs and two different Samsung monitors (same model, ordered at different times) that do the same thing.

In 2011 I'm thinking of buying a MacBook Air for her and I take the MBP.
-I would buy a 27-inch display for the MBP;
-ideally she could use the 24-inch as external display for the MacBook Air
-or, alternatively, I would use the 24-inch as external display for the MBP
Would any of these solutions work?
I am setting up a new 17 inch macbook pro for a friend. He uses a 24 inch LCD external monitor so we purchased the mini display port to dvi adapter (as opposed to the mini display port to dual link dvi adapter for 30 inch monitors). However, I am at home setting up his computer using my external monitor which is the 30 inch dell monitor. For some reason, the maximum resolution I can get is 1280x800 on the external 30 inch monitor. I figured I should at least be able to get 1920x1200 resolution, right?? Does anyone know what may be going on here. I know you're able to switch between video cards on the unibody macbook pros, how do I do that as well?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs said, my current set up is an HDMI - DVI cable (HDMI to monitor and DVI to adapter) and my DVI - mini DisplayPort adapter, everything is connected fine but when I turn on the monitor, it says cable not found... and nothing is displayed on the screen but on the Macbook side of things, it sees the monitor is connected (I can extend the screen and leave the screen) but other than that, it appears I cannot get an image on the monitor, pressing every button on the monitor does not work either.
Any other information that may seem necessary, let me know. I tried clearing my PRAM and clearing the power and such but nothing seems to work.
I have an 28 inch Dell LCD screen that has a native resolution of 1920x1200. Does the MBA support that resolution through the Mini DisplayPort? The specs on the Apple website list the following:

View 8 Replies View RelatedRecently I plugged my HD Monitor to my MacBook and the resolution changed (on the external monitor). I went to Display Preferences but I do not get any resolutions above 1600x1200. When I first used this monitor, I could use it at 1920x1080 and now I simply can't. I don't know if it's a PRAM issue. I reset it but nothing changed.
I'm using a HP 2309m monitor in VGA mode using the VGA-Mini display port adapter. I use the monitor with a PC in DVI mode, but I never use these connection at the same time. I noticed something. When I first used this monitor, Mac identified it as HP 2309 when I opened the display preferences. Now, it only recognizes it as Display.
