Extremely annoying as it drops out of the charger all the time.
The top part actually sticks to the MacBook with the magnet, but the bottom thing just falls out.
Apple in Germany is sending me a replacement, but they had never heard of the issue so I had to send them pics.
I dropped my MacBook Pro only about 12 inches and the corner of the shell where the Magsafe connector is located was bent slightly inward. When connected to the AC power there is enough power going through to run the laptop. However, the battery is not charging and now has no green lights when I push the button on the battery. I checked and the battery has been through 129 cycles so should still be good. I'm assuming that means something was damaged with the Magsafe connection when the corner was dented. Does anyone have any advice? How much it would cost to repair the Magsafe connector? My MacBook Pro was purchased in 2007 and I have no other issues with it. Would it be worth repairing or should I get a new one?
View 2 Replies View RelatedToday I connected my macbook pro to my LED Cinema Display and the MagSafe connector's light was blinking like a hard disk's status light. Is this normal?... it's blinking rapidly like when the light of an external HD is showing the disk is in use. Something like that.
I just checked the battery status in iStats and it's giving me a 91% healthe.. . How could that be if this mac is 6 months old.
I'm thinking about buying one of the Hypermac External Batteries ([URL]) for traveling and such.
They offer their models with either the old Magsafe connector or the new, silver, tubular connector. I would prefer the tubular connector, but I have the old style MBP (non-unibody).
Is the new style connector compatible with the old style MBP?
Does anyone think apple should change all the magsafe connectors to be like the ones on the macbook air? I think those look better than the all white ones that ship with the mb and mbp.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new i7 15" MBP a couple days ago to upgrade my old 13" black MB. I noticed that the the magsafe connector that came with it had a different looking tip. I'm not sure if I like it. It seems awkward and I know the "correct" way to put it is the cord away from the USB/FW/etc ports - which requires another "extra" (=P) step rather than the old magsafe that seemed relatively simple since it was tiny and just jutted out from the tip.

I hope Apple gives the Magsafe a swivel, so the cord can move more freely as the laptop is moved. Am I the only one thinking this would be a good idea?

The connector ends up getting warm and now it will not even charge. I am using girfriend's macbook magsafe. I dont want to have to buy a new magsafe when I could possibly just replace the connector.

I understand that the new one is made of aluminum and is more streamlined and will not bend off when using the computer on your lap. But the parallel configuration of the cord means it's either getting in the way of all your ports or you have to loop it to the back, which isn't always the best solution when you're on the go. I also noticed that the MagSafe wobbles a bit when it's connected, and the magnetic force doesn't seem to be as strong.
The MagSafe on my 2009 MacBook Pro 13" is solid. Perfect fit, great attachment strength, and I actually find the perpendicular cord placement more convenient for my uses. The white plastic tip doesn't match as well with the aluminum unibody, but it's not a problem for me.
Anyone else with me on this one?
i should still have 1 month warranty left on my macbook pro.I tripped over the magsafe cord. It popped out. But now it is not charging. I think they should give me a free one, since it was designed to protect itself & the computer..

Im trying to rebuild a 20inch g5 imac. While replacing the bezel today i removed the screen and broke the pins that connect the connector from the motherboard. Can this be repaired or must I purchase a new screen?

My sister has just broken off the central pin to her iBook G4 which is now wedged inside the connector. Obviously the ac adapter is screwed and needs replacing but short of pulling out the offending pin from the inside of the connector, would I have to replace the power supply? How complicated is this? Cost? Any guides etc?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was attempting to replace the hard drive in my eMac, but for instructions I HAD to follow some darn take-apart guide that said pull out the connection for the power button cord from the logic board. I didn't know that it was SOLDERED in there, and now I can't complete putting my eMac back together without doing so.
Can this be fixed without having to send it to Apple? Does it HAVE to inolve soldering, or is there an alternative? Is there a way I can temporary have my eMac power on until I get the connector fixed?
I am a Mac veteran and should know better but I went brain dead and rebooted system after an update while the repair permissions function was running in the background. Now my IMac will reboot and then start to load once I login but it hangs on the startup screen only showing my mouse arrow and the standard space startup background. It won't get to my desktop. Am I going to have to reinstall the system? I have everything backed up on Time Machine but I can't access it from this position. I have a project I have to finish tonight and now I'm really screwed if I can't get in it.

I brought it into the Apple Store (on Monday) and they gave me the option of them sending it into a repair center, or them repairing it locally in store. I requested that they sent out just because I was curious to see how long it would take. To my surprise, my MBP arrived, fixed and as good as new on my doorstep today. That's amazingly fast for sending it out to a offsite repair center. The repair center is in Philadelphia. I live in Maine. You do the math. When I've had things repaired locally in the Apple Store it's taken weeks to repair instead of days because they need to order the parts.
Anyways, the point of this thread was to suggest to people that they choose the offsite repair option. It's amazingly fast, and it saved me a trip to the Apple Store (they shipped my MBP directly to my house).
I'm having a hard time trying to pin down what type of SATA connector the MBA rev C is using for its storage.
I found this DVnation page that lists 3 possible rev. C MBA ssd upgrades, but it is only mentioned that the connector type is Micro-SATA. Does this mean that the Intel X18 is as of rev C also suitable for the MBA (or any other regular 1.8" SATA ssd or hdd for that matter)?
I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro 15" with the 2.53 GHz 6MB L2 cache processor and the 512 MB 9600GT. While tearing it down, I accidentally took the entire fan connector of the leftside fan completely off the logic board. I took it to the Apple store, where they said that they wanted $1,500 to buy a new logic board. I have this weird feeling that they are trying to rip me off, and that they could have repaired the fan connector. Does anyone have a method to reattach the connector or something? It doesn't matter if it will void the warranty because it's already expired.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIm fixing up a macbook, and there was problems with the battery connector. So I pulled it out. But on the LB there were only 9 holes (6 on one side, 3 on the other) and no hole where the 7th ones should be. And on the connector in those spots it was the same thing, but what is even weirder, is that it doesnt even look like the pins were broken off, just that there was nothing there, and on the top it doesnt have any solder on those points. Any ideas what to do and how to do it??? And if you want i can post pictures.

It eventually froze up, I took the battery out and put it back in. Previously, in the past this has worked to get it back on. However, now I cannot get it back on.

I have no idea what it is but on my sheet it falls under the symptom "Enclosure - Mechanical/Cosmetic Damaged". I had this replaced once before but I don't know what it is.

I have problem with USB ports on my new 13" MacBook Pro. Right USB connector now stop work.When I connect mouse to right USB connector - nothing happend, USB don't work. On the lest USB connector mouse work fine.When I connect not powered HD to left connector - LED od HD light but not visible on MAC. When I connect HD via power USB HUB to left USB connector it works. Right connector looks dead.In the System profiler I don't see IR Receiver which is connected to right USB HUB.Do you think that is HW or SW problem?

What I want to do is when on vacations plug my MBP into the TV and show the pictures I took. I know Apple used to give them to you for free when you got a new MacBook or MacBook Pro. But since most were wasted, they stopped. So now, if you call Apple Support or whatever, can you get one for free per request? I really don't want to pay $30 for this little cable.

I've ever tried to upgrade a hard drive on a 13", 2007, white Intel MacBook.I was following the directions I had found on the internet.I've taken the old drive out, swapped the hard drive plate from the original drive to the new hard drive and tried to push it back into the same slot, but for some reason I can't get it to go all the way back into that slot the drive fits in.Strange enough, it also feels like it's pushing against something rubbery on the inside.It's less than a 1/4 inch from going all the way back in.I've made certain that all the screws are tightened all the way on the drive, but can't figure out why I'm getting resistence when I try to push it in that weeee little bit.I am certain that I have the drive flipped the proper way too, because I took note of how the original drive was oriented and made sure I duplicated that on this new drive.Like I had said before, it feels like there is something rubbery that's in the way, I just can't get to it.So I'm also curious if anyone knows if I were to take off the top cover on the laptop whether that would expose the hard drive so that I could see why it's not fitting into the connector properly.
