OS9/OS8/System 7 :: How To Remove CD Drive From G3 Beige Desktop

Just got an 'Apple [OEM] Rom' super drive from OWC. Next: how does one install it nicely in the beige G3 case. I see plastic everywhere and am 'guessing’ there is some sort of detent or stop that you can click to slide the original drive out. But I don’t see it! So, is there some sort of tray or rack that will allow me to slide out the old and slide in the new?

I'm having some trouble booting my Powermac G3 beige desktop into OSX 10.2 - i know that it's officially supported, but its failing to boot the CD.
Symptoms:
Boot the mac up, press C, grey screen displays, (very) briefly displays a black screen with some white text and resets itself - Chimes, then sits doing nothing, no output to the monitor or anything.After this, i have to do the Ctrl+Opt+P+R before it will boot back up and repeat.
I have managed to get into the installer before, but install failed presumably due to the old hard drive being knackered (The original Quantum Fireball 4GB drive!!) No such joy since then really.

I've just noticed that in my Finder window sidebar, under "Shared", I have a character called Thomson listed. I don't know any Thomson and I bought the machine, an MBA, brand new. However, I did have an engineer instal the machine in my apartment and can only assume he's the mysterious Thomson. Anyway, whoever he/she is, I don't want him/her on my machine as Shared & "connected as guest". The point is, I cannot find a way to delete Thomson!! Can anyone help? I've tried System Preferences>Security and Accounts and there's no trace of Thomson there. Right clicking on Thomson in the sidebar of Finder only gives me the option to Open and Get Info. Most annoying, this. There MUST be a way to delete a Sharing but totally unwanted guest....

what is the .DS_Store file that is on my desktop and in many of my folders? can i move it, i have tried dragging it to a different folder, but it just pops up again, and it makes my desktop look all untidy!

I am trying to switch out mobos. I want to put a desktop mobo in a minitower case. But my understanding there is a jumper that can be changed to switch between the models. Has something to do with the power supply differences if I remember correctly. Anyone know where on the motherboard that would be located? in need to find it because currently using the desktop mobo in the minitower case it will not power on at all.

I have a G3 Beige Minitower (233MHz model) that I recently upgraded with a A/V Personality card I got from a friend of mine. It booted with the new personality card just fine. Now I got a hold of a G3 450MHz ZIF processor card and I put it into my G3, swapping out the old 233MHz one. I also took off the red jumper block and put some jumpers in place for a 450MHz processor. (Thanks to MacAddict Issue 30 for the pinouts, see "Overclocking your G3"). Now I got it booting, chiming and the power light going green, but no video coming out of the onboard video card (that came with the machine). I also have another Hard Drive, a Ultra-Wide SCSI card and a USB card, all 3rd party.

The other day I clicked on a link and when the page loaded my Safari 4 window turned browny-beige.I can't find any option in view or preferences to get rid of it, nor anything on Google.EDIT: It appears my trashcan is the same colour as well?

I'm running 10.6.5 and have MobileMe iDisk syncing turned on - which I like and use.
Is there a way to remove the iDisk icon from the Desktop at all as I really like an empty desktop?

I was playing around with a .mac trial account and got the iDisk icon on my desktop. When I try to drag it to the trash bin the trash bin changes and says eject, but nothing happens when I release the mouse. It seems that there is no way for me to delete this icon.

I have been offered update on Adobe Reader appx 12 times now and it has been accepted and closed other programs to install. It 9.5.1 version. Now I have two pdf files on my desktop 28bea10-8739248572913388.pdf and a similar one which cannot be trashed or removed from the desktop. A sign comes up cannot be deleted therefore cannot be removed from the desktop.

One of the relatives were complaining about a fuzzy/colourful line over their iMac screen.. I figured it would be a display/hardware issue.. Until I remote desktop'd into the machine. Somehow, the line is showing through Remote Desktop..
Its' just on the background, and stays over the background picture no matter what (I've tried to change it, etc.) Tried to repair permissions too - nothing.

I am having difficulty removing backup files that are locked from my desktop that I transfered from a backup external hard drive. It starts to delete but whern it gets to 0 it rewrites the file. this happens evn after I answer "remove all locked files".Â

I want to add the icon for my Mac to the desktop, but don't know how to do so. Also, the ICal icon appears both on my desktop and in the dock. When I try to remove it from the desktop, it also disappears from the dock, which I don't want to do. How can I do this addition and subtraction?
