Is there a way to remove the iDisk icon from the Desktop at all as I really like an empty desktop?

Jan 4, 2006I was playing around with a .mac trial account and got the iDisk icon on my desktop. When I try to drag it to the trash bin the trash bin changes and says eject, but nothing happens when I release the mouse. It seems that there is no way for me to delete this icon.

Jul 3, 2012After reinstall of OS X 10.7.4, I restored an older copy from Time Machine backup. I want to completely replace the current "Macintosh HD" folder with the folder that TM put inside it. I created a separate user account, that did not exist before to do it. Do I need to create a root account? Is there an easy way to copy /Macintosh HD/Macintosh HD/ to /Macintosh HD/?

Dec 10, 2009I was trying to change the icon of my "Macintosh HD" on my iMac. I'd done this earlier on my Macbook Pro, and I had the same problem as I'm having now. I eventually got it done on the 'Book Pro but I don't remember what I had to do. When clicking "Get Info", in the left-top corner the icon isn't there. It's blank and says "png". Apr 25, 2012I have a WD Passport. I installed the latest firmware, and smartware software, in the hope I could remove that dratted "VCD" icon from popping up each time I connect the smartware drive. The smartware software allowed me to change the settings so that I could disable the drive.Â
Now I no longer need the software, but the it seems to have installed a "quick view" icon on the task bar! (near the clock / date etc).
I looked in "Login Items", but it doesn't seem to start anyprogram on startup, and I can't drag it off the task bar.Â
How can I remove this? There doesn't seem to be any setting within Smartware to remove this. Curse you Smartware!

I have tried changing the rw permission and reselecting the original appliaction etc. But still unable to delete these alias icons. can someone point me in the right dircetion to use Terminal command such as rm -f file name to permanetely remove these left over icons. Before OS X Lion 10.7 I was able to chmod etc and delete the icon.

Jun 24, 2012i have already under firefox preference/advanced checked and ok the Firefox being the default browser many times. My objective is to make sure that whenever i restart or boot up the Mac, the Firefox icon would appear automatically on the desktop side bar to enable one to simple click on it to launch the Mozilla browser. Right now every time i restart the Mac i don't see the firefox icon on the side bar and has therefore to go into the HD to find the download and start the application firefox again.
