I want to add the icon for my Mac to the desktop, but don't know how to do so. Also, the ICal icon appears both on my desktop and in the dock. When I try to remove it from the desktop, it also disappears from the dock, which I don't want to do. How can I do this addition and subtraction?

I recently purchased an iMac that came preloaded with trials for Keynote and Pages. Somewhere along the line, we ended up with another trial and then bought both of these. Now, we have 3 icons for each in Launchpad. Wondering how remove the 2 of each that we do not need?

I clipped a few lines out of my system log; dropped 'em on a desktop. Now they appear on every desktop. What gives? Why don't they stick to only the desktop I dropped them on?

Some of my desktop icons "disappear" intermittently ( not always the same icon(s)). still appears but the icon is blank. I can still click on the blank spot and the app will launch.
Oh and my personal "Avatar" photo also reverts to an earlier choice ( intermittently ) as well. Can change it to the one I want to use but it reverts back to the old picture also from time to time ...

I'm a new Mac-user having used PC:s for 25 years. On my Windows Desktop it was easy to place new icons with shortcuts to websites I often visit. I have tried to do this on my Mac, creating Bookmarks, exporting them to Desktop. Iicons appear. But when clicked they don't connect with the webaddresses I have given.
I have read Q&A from someone who tried to give similar shortcuts to customers, but I did not understand the answers. I'm Swedish and Mac Keyboard and Desktop menues etc are in Swedish so the exact terms in English may be difficult to translate. My problem is different since it's only on my Mac I need the shortcuts/icons/links.
I learned how to put icons with website links on my Desktop. Those icons are all the same (except for the names I have given them) and look boring. How do I ,put for example ,a photo of my daughter, whose blog I want to visit, on the icon?Â

i am a tad stumped by this issue i'm having right now with my new imac. i noticed one day that none of my desktop aliases show any longer. in fact if i go to the desktop folder through finder my files and such show in there however none of my aliases nor those files show on the actual desktop. another thing i've noticed is that whenever i now try to drag and drop anything to the desktop whether it be a URL from safari or an alias i made in finder the dragged item simply just drags itself back to where i pulled it from.

Okay, I'm having some problems with my Powerbook. Yesterday, I upgraded Firefox. When re-opening after the upgrade, I had a kernel panic. I restarted my computer and figured I would be good to go. Well, after logging back in, I found that Finder was acting up and I no longer had any desktop icons. Now, clicking the Finder icon in the dock will open a new Finder window just fine. If I go to the Desktop from there, all my icons are still there. So, I decided to restart my computer and see if that made a difference.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThey're still accessible through finder, but now I can't drag-and-drop anything (at all) to the desktop. It was fine a minute ago before I shut down and rebooted my laptop. Restarts and switching users does nothing. I'm using Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4.

Anyone come across a problem where all the desktop icons disappear? I also cannot right click on my desktop to bring up a contextual menu, my machine appears to be running faultlessly apart from that. I have run Onyx to reset permissions and have checked the disk but cannot seem to find anything wrong.
Running OSX 10.10 on a quad core 2.66 Mac Pro.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a lot of icons in my menu bar and I thought I saw reference to an app one can run that only has like one menu bar action that will free up most of the space so one can see the other menu bar icons. I am unable to remove / delete icons from the dock - any idea why? Once apon a time I could just drag and drop onto the desktop in a cloud of smoke, or drag to Trash. Not any more. I have tried the following; repairing disk permissions; 'killall dock' command using terminal; checked parental control is OFF; deleting the [URL] files from Macintosh HD,Users,Library,Preferences.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter having some issues with chrome (huge cache) I decided to remove it. I also removed the shortcut/icon from the dock. Every time I restart the computer I have a question mark where Crome used to be. I zapped the PRAM, repaired permissions, even restarted and went trough the permission repair process at startup. I tried to install Chrome and uninstall through a3rd party uninstaller and get the same. It does not appear in my startup applications I have no other users registered. Terminal also starts up automatically at every startup (not in startup items). It is driving me up the wall! I even removed the desktop plist. What else can be done?
