May 12, 2012I did the download and install but it gets to this point and hangs. After 4 hours, I doubt it will ever complete. I tried stopping Bluetooth and my Wifi, getting out of all browsers and still no joy.

Apr 12, 2012Says the software may have been tampered with or corrupted during download. I am NOT some computer hack, just a regular guy who bought a simple product to download and it doesn't work. Total BS and waste of my time. I'm not interested in saving my download to an ext HD, or partitioning my HD, or some other funky work-around. I want to know why this software will not load straight away as advertised? I have S/L, v 10.6.8 and the required RAM and disc space.

Feb 24, 2012yesterday night I decided to moving (not coping) about 100 Gb of data (two WMWare virtual images of Windows XP)from an external USB disk to my internal hard disk. The process starts and I see it will takes about 3 hours. I decide to stop the process to start it again just before going to sleep.So I click on x button of the moving window.After few seconds the moving process stops. But opening the source folder I had a very unpleasant surprise: no files at all.I check the destination folder: just few files of about 50 MB (obviously). I immediately removes the external USB disk to avoid other damages.
1. where are my data?
2. is there a easy way to recover them?

Feb 15, 2012I'm creating a new user account and moving my personal data over to it, because I want a fresh start with default settings. Both accounts are administrators. Will I have any permissions problems after moving my files? I don't want to find out that I can't access my data on the new account because I don't have the UNIX permissions for it.
Edit: I don't know if it makes a difference, but I forgot to add that I am moving my files from the old account to an external firewire drive, and then from the drive to the new account. Also, I'm running 10.7.3

Apr 28, 2012I wish to move many GB of data (docs, photos, etc.) from one user ID to another one on the same Mac. I know I can use Time Machine and run a back-up, I can also copy the folders to (8 GB) DVDs.
Are there other options I can use? What would these be and what would be the benefits of using one method rather than another. Eventually I want to remove one of the user IDs after everything has been moved to the other one. I wondered if sharing folders would benefit and how is this accomplished? If one ID is later removed, then what happens with the sharing of folders?

Moving From Leopard To Lion / Want To Start Fresh
Feb 17, 2012I have a 2008 MacBook Pro that is running a little slow lately.I've done four years of work on it and since it's time for me to upgrade for Snow Leopard (10.6.8) to Lion I thought I'd blow everything away and then restore.I always hear Leo Laporte (The Tech Guy) recommend starting from scratch and then restoring about once a year.I'd like to install Lion as a new installation onto my MacBook Pro and then use Time Machine to do a complete system restore.I have Time Machine backing up my system every day on a 500G external drive via firewire.It's completely up to date.
1)Will I see improvement from blowing everything away, installing the new OS (Lion) and then restoring? It seems to me that if I do that I'm just putting all the same garbage that I've built up over the past four years right back where it was. Might as well just do the full Lion install and let it restore everythign on it's own.
2)Say I load Lion fresh; isn't it going to run through that whole "new user" 30 minute script where I have to input all kinds of information? Then I connect my external drive and make it do a complete restore?

I purchased the Snow Leopard DVD and installed with success. I went to purchase Lion through the App store and received a message.
"Lion needs at least 2 BG of memory to download" There is only 1GB of memory left. Can I "trash/dump" something? If so, HOW??

Apr 24, 2012I have an old G5 XServe running 10.5.8 that is set up as an OpenDirectory master. I need to move the OpenDirectory information (Users and Groups) to a new machine running Lion Server. How can I do this? I tried using the "Archive" function in server admin on the 10.5 machine to create an archive, and then restoring on the 10.7 machine, but while I didn't get any errors, none of my users moved across either. I could, of course, do an export/import from Workgroup Manager, but as that wouldn't transfer the passwords, it's of limited use. How can I move the database across servers?

Jun 1, 2012I think I blew up my MobileMe. I had recently moved my Mac over to Lion, so was ready to make the switch from Me to iCloud. I found the process somewhat confusing over the course of things (which took place in stages over several weeks). Somehow I ended up with two AppleIDs. Fortunately, all my purchases were with the old, main one. But when I moved to iCloud, it moved it with the new one. I ended up deleting the iCloud new accound off my iPhone and iPad and reinstating the original ID there. But probably lost all that was in my Me account (I think a couple of photos and some files that were on the iDisk). I'm mostly posting this so others will possibly check their accounts before making the move to iCloud. Others might not be so lucky to not lose anything important in this switch.

I made a clean install of Lion on the SSD which created a new Pictures folder on the SSD, but I want to have it linked to the old HDD. OS X V10.7 Lion :: Moving Time Machine Backup Folders Between Hard Drives?
Mar 15, 2012I'm trying to do a favour for a friend. She has a 320Gb external WD hard drive which she used on her Macbook to backup with Time Machine. It is not partitioned and she keeps the "Backups.backupdb" folder with other personal folders she throws in there. Recently she sold her Macbook and all that was left was this hd. She now only has access to her work pc but it won't recognize her hd as she's apparently formatted it with option "Mac OSX Journaled". So she gave me her hd to backup and then format to FAT32.
I've been a Mac for a long time but have never used Time Machine, I simply copy my important files into an external hd as I feel it's cleaner and I've never really had HD problems with any Macs I owned. So basically I have no idea how this works. I managed to copy all of her personal folders into my hd as well as the one labeled "Latest" on the Backups.backupdb folder ("Latest" is actually an alias). But I can't seem to be able to copy the rest of the backup folders. I can copy them into my computer hard drive, but each folder (I'm talking about the ones labeled with dates, there are 35 of them) is around 70Gb. Now, of course that doesn't make any sense, as it would be impossible to have 35 folders of 70Gb each in a 320Gb hd. I can only assume they use aliases as well, but when I try to copy them individually or as a whole (enclosing folder) Finder says I have no space available for that (even though I have more than 320Gb available).
Now, in my mind it's completely idiotic to keep any folders other than the Latest one. She doesn't even own a Mac anymore. But she's freaking out that I'm going to lose her entire life (she's that kind of person). I don't want to open the Time Machine app because like I said I don't use it on my computer and these are not my files, so I do not in any way want to sync with this hard drive or backup to it. I'm on a 21" 500Gb iMac running 10.7.3.
