I am getting a new computer and would like to move mail and its settings, folders, etc. without moving all of my programs and users settings. I would like to end up with a clean install except for mail. Is that possible with migration assistant or is there another way such as importing archieves for each mailbox folder. Is there a pst file that contains the rules, and account info?
I'm planning to move to the US from Australia in a couple of months, and intend to buy an iMac over there instead of shipping mine across. Does anyone know if there are any compatibility issues with restoring a backup from a computer from another market?
Info: iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
I am migrating my mail and archive folders from Mail to iCloud. I moved 20+ folders and over 8k messages with no problem by dragging and dropping the folder from 'On my mac' section to 'iCloud' section in Mail. The last two folders were the largest with over 1.5k in each folder. Over 1200 of the messages in each went in to iCloud without a hitch. Then I got this error:
The IMAP command “APPEND” (to [mail box name]) failed with server error: Message contains NUL characters.
There are 149 messages left in one folder and 203 in another folder. Try as I might, it will not work. I tried Rebuild mailbox option in menu and exported to Mail and mbox format and then re-importing. Still does not work.
My mail app freezes randomly while I have my computer on while I go to use it and I have to restart the app to get it to work again. I'm not sure what to do?No beach ball cursor comes up, I just can't click on anything.

Is it possible to have mail signature set up on my macbook pro available on my other mac devices, lie mac mini or ipad. I would like to have it on a server or icloud so they stay in sync.
I had to install a fresh copy of OS X on a new internal hard drive on my Mac Pro. I'd like to move my iTunes library from my home directory on my old drive to my new one. I'm hopelessly confused about how to do that, now that I'm using iTunes Match and with the recent changes in iTunes structure.
Info: Mac Pro 2.8 (Early '08), Mac OS X (10.5.2), 10 GB RAM, 74GB 10k Raptor, 2x 750GB RAID, 23" ACD
I operate a small business, and need to keep an archive of all email on my computer for at least one year (not on the cloud, as I live on a small island and our internet service is sporadic). I prefer to manually delete all email after 12 or 13 months. It seems like Apple Mail no longer allows this?
I am having trouble moving files between a windows computer and a mac. When I save a file on the USB from the [URL]. there is no problem, and when I extract it to my mac there is no problem. BUT when I delete the files from the USB stick, it looks like everything is okay (window of usb is clear, and therefore there should not be anything on it right?) But if I go to the settings for the USB to see if the entiry capacity of the USB is available again, then I find out that this is NOT so.
So basically my problem is that my USB tells me it is occupied, when in fact it is not, could it be something with the cooperation between pc and mac perhaps?
What do you think the reason for this is? and how could I fix it?
The problem is that I now have 3 different USB-sticks which are useless.
I have resqued all my photos from my back up, and I was making one single library but I decided to make a different library for " my trips' .. How can i transfer project from my 'New library" to my 'trips library' there are many projects and i want to do it as fast as I can. working on Aperture 3 and an Imac with mavericks.
Upgraded the software on my MacBook Mid 2009 to OS X Lion 10.7.2 and since then experiencing problems with the computer hanging whilst in the middle of something, generally Mail. Can this MacBook support this upgraded software? This problem didn't happen before the upgrade.
At transition, I initially want to keep my me.com/mac.com email and then (later) seamlessly move to Lion and full iCloud. Will this be possible and if so, can anyone see necessary tweaking to ensure that my retained me.com email will continue to forward or receive from external email accounts?
Accessing the URL me.com/move is not possible- browser redirects me to Find My iPhone. When I attempt to enter my legacy MobileMe address in the iCloud System Preference panel, I am prevented because it is taken despite the fact it is assigned to me. Infinite Loop of frustration: being constantly redirected by support documents to a page that does not exist. My me.com email address is verified in my Apple ID settings page.
I have a 10.6.8 operating system. I can not retrieve mail from my usual mailbox~~@mac.com. Every time I want to see my mail, I have to go to the MobileMe ending notifcation notice, sign in, and see my mail on icloud. I don't want to do this every time. I have changed to icloud but am only having troubles. I AM A COMPUTER ILLITERATE late middle aged gentleman who does not find change enjoyable.
My wife runs all her emails through entourage. This is a HUGE memory hog and just generally a big and bulky mail client. She has an 07 black macbook running snow leopard. Is there an easy way to simply import ALL her mail to a apple MAIL. I get that I would have to reconfigured where her email accounts dump their mail in the future. But I'm just wondering how I would get her THOUSANDS of emails over to MAIL, and if it is even possible.
Is there a way to move the Apple Mail folder someplace else? I have a bunch of archived mail (mbox) on an external drive and I want to access them but I don't know how unless I drag them to my Library folder.
So I create a whole bunch of folders in Mail. Everything is fine. I'm moving and organizing things. Then suddenly I get this pop-up message:
The message "Job" could not be moved to the mailbox "Jobs — On My Mac"
I can read it. Why wouldn't it move?
Another time I couldn't move it, it said this and the message could not be read. This is displayed in the message body when the title is highlighted:
The message from Robin [URL] concerning "Your work" has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.
get my mail from my Local Storage in the On My Mac section of Mail to my Google GMail account? I have been trying to do this by moving this folder by folder by folder and I have not been having luck with this. It appears to go very slow and oftentimes it simply does not work so this mail is stuck in a local folder somewhere and i have no ability to put it in with my other mail (stored on GMail) and I cannot sort it the way I would like to.
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 10.6.8 with 64 bit Win7 Parallels
How do I "move" Apple Mail files from one machine to another? I have Machine A. It went ill & I merged its Mail files into Machine B. Now Machine A is healthy again & I want to move/merge Mail files on Machine B back to A. I'm concerned that if I "merge" B back to A, I'll get a lot of duplicate folders/emails.
Read the below quote from Mac Performance Guide. Is it a good idea? I know a bit of DOS, so I am used to command line commands but even after after Lloyd Chambers explanation, still not sure what is going to happen? ln -s /Volumes/Master/Mail Library/Mail The reason I want to move my Mail folder out of the home directory is because I plan to have a SSD as my boot drive and the home directory is on the boot drive, correct? "Moving the Apple Mail folder to your data volume".
This trick lets you move your Mail folder out of your home directory onto your data volume. I've used this technique for years so that I can forget about having to back up my home directory (default location for Apple Mail) and simply back up my one data volume: Master. The same trick can be used for any similarly irritating program that insists on storing its data in your home directory, rather than giving you a choice (a few programs are too brain-dead for this to work). Programs like iTunes let you choose where to put your music; use that option.
Your Apple Mail folder is in the Library folder of your home directory. The trick requires starting Terminal. If that makes you uncomfortable, stop here! You are going to make a symbolic link. 0. Quit Apple Mail, and make a backup of your mail folder. 1. Copy the Mail folder to the top level of your data drive (or elsewhere, then modify step 3 appropriately). 2. Rename the original mail folder to Mail.old as an additional backup. 3. Start a Terminal window and type: ln -s /Volumes/Master/Mail Library/Mail
This makes a symbolic link to the folder Mail on the volume Master (type the name of your volume, and use quotes around it if the volume name contains a space character). The resulting file Library/Mail is a tiny file that says "look over there on /Volumes/Master/Mail instead". From here on out Apple Mail won't know the difference! Launch Apple Mail and verify that it worked. If you encounter problems, simply copy your backup back into place."
After moving Mobile Me to iCloud, I am having 2 problems with the Mail application. On my Laptop running Lion, I'm not able to send email using my ".me" account. Error message says "connections to the server 'p99-smtp.mail.me.com' on the default ports timed out." The incoming mail server is now showing "p99-imap.mail.me.com."I do appear to be receiving mail to my .me accounts. On my Power PC G5 (running OSX 10.5.8) I am no longer receiving mail from my .me account.
Will I still be able to use the Mail program w/my .mac email address after moving to iCloud? Will it still reflect the same moves btwn my iPhone and mail program after moving all this BS to iCloud?
I did the move to icloud, even though i don't totally understand it. however, now on my imac, i can no longer access my mail on my macmail program. what do i do?
I have rules that sort new mail into a number of mailboxes on iCloud, and also copy the mail to similar mailboxes local to my desktop. The rules seem to want the "move" action first, followed by the copy action, as no mater how I enter them, they are rearranged. After I edit a rule and have the destination mailboxes set, they look OK, but then when I revisit the rule after saving, the destination mailboxes are changed. I am not able to get this to work at all consistently. I have about 30 rules to sort incoming mail.
I want to do it this way so that I can get a local copy of my mail and also have a copy in the cloud for viewing with my mobile devices. I eventually delete all the iCloud mail and archive the mail in local folders offline. So it would be nice to be able to get the two copies of new mail in the cloud and locally to work.
