I want to create a separate database for my professional contacts using Excel or Filemaker. Right now I have them all in Address Book. If I could just export my database as a tab-delimited text file.

So I just finished my latest short film, and I exported it to Finder. However I don't like the preview Finder chose for my video, it simply chose a random frame from my video and made that the preview of the file. I have a custom poster I made for the video I would like to make the preview of the file. I've look at other websites and they all mistook "preview" for icons. I am not talking about the icon of the file, I am talking about the actual preview of the file. If you open the Info pane of an image or a video file, there will be a tab under "Open With" named "Preview" and shows the preview thumbnail for the file. Can anyone tell me how I can manually change the preview of a file? I thought about importing the video into iTunes, change the cover art and take it out again, however because the file is encoded with Apple ProRes 4444 iTunes won't accept it and even if it did it would have been converted to other format, which is something I am trying to avoid and I would like to keep it ProRes 4444.

Recently (i.e the last couple of days) I continually get an error message from preview/export saying "<filename>" cannot be exported as "<filename>".

Using Lion, I have tried to re-size an image using Preview and every time I try to save my edited image it tells me I do not have permission to save this/the file is locked when I have full permissions to do so and the file is NOT locked.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am wondering if anyone has an update on when finder will show a thumbnail for the raw files from the Canon 5d mark III? I've done all the updates possible and nothing has changed, I can't do a quick preview either, it just shows the extension image, not the actual image taken. (The symbol for crw).

I have been looking all day for an answer. I am a NuBe on this stuff.
I need to create a text file that contains folder path, file name and attributes such as create date, modified date etc.
I believe the Terminal app should do this.

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of an app (or an option I'm missing in finder) that might be able to export the names of files in a certain folder (and subfolders, if possible) to a text file. I know how to print a list using applescript, but I'd like to be able to have the list in an editable text file.

I would like to export the audio from a quicktime movie. i have QT 7 Pro. I want to listen to the audio from the movie in my car, on a CD. I tried it a few different ways, as AIFF, another, and it saves a large file but doesn't sound when I play it. No sound. Is there a way to save it so it's audible? These are AVI files.

I bought her a itouch for Christmas that will get around it better. but it would be good to have a simple txt or word doc type file on the desktop to look at. over the years she has a txt file with the info I put it all in her address book but the file is faster. but it is a mess too.

View 1 Replies View Related An interesting problem that I haven't been able to reconcile through my hosting company so I thought I would post here. I exported a video clip using QT Pro 7.6.4, export for web and uploaded the entire directory and tested for playback on my iPhone 3G 3.1.2:
http://propeller-group.com/Hypnotist/ReadMe.html
(iPhone playback doesn't work and it does not even load the poster image - but desktop playback does work perfectly.)
Then I proceeded to upload the same directory to another site to test for playback:
http://mattlucero.com/Hypnotist/ReadMe.html
(both iPhone and desktop playback methods work perfectly)
So then I proceed to see if the individual files are even playing back on the server that wasn't loading the video on my iPhone: [URL](video plays back fine on the iPhone when hit directly)
This leads me to believe it is an html/scripting error of some kind? But this is the exact same html file generated from QT that has been uploaded to both servers. I have tried using the full URL for the .mov file to no avail. Why would it work on one server and not on another? Is there possibly some issues with the server not being able to interpret the reference file correctly? Or a javascript/server type error? Or is there something else I am missing? I have tried configuring MIME types using a .htaccess file, but I am not sure if this is even the issue as I am able to play back the video fine when hit directly.
I'm looking for an app that's like a text editor that lets me handle text and edit it and add images and then at the end export it to a .png file. Also the text or image editor should let me to change the dimensions of the file (the "physical" size). Or any image editor that lets me re-edit the text entered.

Almost 1gb a minute. The video comes in 1920 x 1080, apple prores 422, 29.97 fps. I want to edit the footage and then export the timeline using a setting that will drastically reduce the file size.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a complete noob when it comes to Pages (iWork'05), and I'm editing my first newsletter which is supposed to go out to 300 people by e-mail. However, when I export it to pdf, the file size is 22.8mb! For 6 pages!
I've chosen the Extreme newsletter template (red one), and I have 6 pages in total. The only reason I can think of why it's so big is that when i drag and drop photos into the photo-boxes, the image isn't scaled down at all, not even when I export it to pdf. Is that right? It's only about 1 or 2 photos per page, and I have two pages with three small photos and a larger photo at the bottom. Anyone got some insights?
Does anyone know how to do this? I know I can add the Previous Recipients to my Address Book, but I'd really love to get them into a text file the way it's listed, specifically in this case because of the Last Used date column. I found one post on the Apple forums with a way to do it via Terminal, but the steps weren't clear and I wasn't able to do it (I'm a complete dummy when it comes to Terminal and scripts and the like ).

If I create a file in Pages, Numbers, or Keynote and save it to my documents, I can't attach that file to an email. It says the file cannot be attached. If I go back to the file and export to Word or Excel, It will attach to the email. How can I fix this?

I've been slowly but surely figuring out the FCE program. About 3 months ago I editied a video, exported it and when I clicked on the .MOV file it automatically converted it to a QuickTime compatible file, which I was then able to save and upload to YouTube with no issues. I have not updated or changed any settings or anything on my computer since then and now when I export a video it shows up as an .MOV file that QuickTime can't access. Also, when I click on the "more info" button, it sends me to a link with a list of compatible formats and at the very top of the list is .MOV! I really don't know what to do now.
I just want to be able to view the video I edited and post it to YouTube.

I've got a 7.2 gig file i'm trying to move from my Mac to a Windows partition on the drive. The partition is formatted FAT32. I'm getting a error code 0, which I gather means i can't move files that big onto fat32. I'd rather not reformat the partition to something else (stuff on there that took a good while to install).
Any suggestion on how I can get the file over? I've got a lacie hard drive with chunks of space, but its currently formatted for a mac with stuff on it. Even assuming I can partition it without wiping anything, won't i face the same problem?
I've bought a Seagate External Hard Drive, and want to copy my photos from the Macbook Pro to it. Every time I try and copy them, a message appears 'Unable to render file for export' followed by the drive details and a string of numbers. How I should be copying them? I've already accidentally deleted and appear to have permanently lost photos from iCloud, which is why I want a spare copy on an external drive.

my 3 years old mbp is beginning to show its age, so I decided to purchase a new Macbook pro 15inch i7.The problem i'm facing now is how to move all my files, applicant, and settings to the yet to be my mbp.Currently, I have an 500g hard drive on my 2007 mbp, and will be buying a seagate momentus xt 500g for the new mbp.
When I upgraded the hard drive for my old mbp, I used super duper, which worked flawless. But would it also work flawless if I were to backup my current hard drive on to the seagate momentus xt 500g and put back in to the new mbp?And would that affect anything? Also, would time machine be a better option?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a PDF file that I know has attachments in it, but when I open the PDF file with Preview the attachments do not show up, nor does it even seem possible to view them (I know they are there because I can see them using Windows Foxit PDF reader). Does anyone know if this is possible with Preview or will I have to get the Adobe Reader? I dread getting anything adobe because on Windows computers their software is so bloated and a resource hog.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm relatively new to using a Mac seriously, having just acquired a lovely new MBP with Snow Leopard installed. I may be missing something obvious, but is there a way to limit the icon preview feature to just showing previews for files less than a certain size? My background is with Linux, and KDE provides a configurable file size cut off above which icon previews are not shown.
I ask because I've got a folder full of large (ie 16GB) ASCII files full of output from some scientific algorithms. Whenever I browse to that folder, the Quick Look Helper eats up all 8GB of my system memory before the OS kills it off and it moves on to the next file. This is *really* irritating.
So, is there a way to limit icon preview's behaviour to small (ie normal) files, or do I just have to turn it off completely?
