View 1 RepliesAlthough the number of unread messages is properly shown under Inbox on the Mailboxes list next to two of my three Mail accounts, the other one shows none when there some. The quantity is also missing from the total number of messages next to Inbox when I collapse the list. This was working fine for many years.

Does anyone know of an easy way to search through Apple Mail to list all the messages with attachments and sort them by size? I was hoping to slim down my mail folder.

For no apparent reason, now when I create a new mailbox, the first column header contains a mystery icon consisting of two arrows, one pointing northwest and the other pointing southeast. When I right-click on the headers, there is no corresponding item in the pop-up menu (e.g. Attachments, To, From), so I have no clue what it is, nor can I hide it. Mailboxes I created prior to whatever it is that changed do not have this icon. I have not changed my OS, nor the version of Mail I am using. Can anyone tell me what this icon/column is for, and how I can get rid of it??
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been really miffed by Mac Mail's behaviour for adding attachments. When I add seemingly any sort of file into an email message, it sticks an icon of it exactly where my cursor is. This is pretty ridiculous - it messes up my formatting (line spaces etc) and looks silly in the middle of my message.
Is there any way to simply display the attachment icons only in the header of the message? I think Mail Attachments Iconizer is meant to do this, but I'm hoping there's a way within Mail to do this. To clarify I'm not talking about expanding images inline, but the fact that there's an icon of the attachments in the body of my message.
When I drag and drop attachments to the Mail, its snap all over the place. PDF will be automatically open, whereas spread sheet, doc and email will be shown in icon. Some before my text, some in between my signature, some right below etc. Its all over. Its there a way to let Mail auto display in a more organized manner before I press the send button?

When attaching a simple PDF (size 15.8MB) to a simple OS Lion email, when going out it expands to 21.4 MB. This exceeds my ISPs 20MB maximum file size. Why a simple PDF would expand by almost 5 MB.The same email without the attachment is only 400 KB.

I have a mailbox in Mail that I no longer want. I selected the option to delete the mailbox, but the mailbox will not leave the list. I have tried a few times to get rid of the box, but it will not leave. All the settings are still there, it still goes after mail and still allows me to send mail from that account. How do I 100% get this unwanted mailbox in Mail?

Normally when I opened an email that had an attachment (like my paystub pdf), there was a down arrow under the header line in the upper right corner that allowed me to download the attachment. Suddenly it is gone - and gone on all my past emails that I have done this with.
Where this would suddenly go??

Apple Mail has a preference to 'Trust junk mail headers in messages' but I can not find a list of what those headers are.By trial and error I've learned the "X-Spam-Flag: YES" will work (exactly that, no extra info), but I'd like to know what other options there are... particularly if I can send a score/rating back and have it look at that. But I can't find a list of supported headers. The Internet is full of "common spam headers" and yet none of them actually seem to work and lots of people who can't get it working with spamassassin which is incredibly common.

I can highlight the name and type a new one, or I can go to the Mailbox menu and select Rename Mailbox, then type the new name. I take the minutes for a local operatic society. At these meetings there are usually 6 or 7 people present. I have their email addresses stored in my address book, but how do I set up a mailing list which contains all members names and email addresses so I can send just one email which will reach all of them? I am sure this is an easy thing to do, but I just can't seem to fathom out how to do it.

I have looked in Library/application support, but can find no entry for Mail or Address book. I know that there must be a file somewhere with this data.

I'm setting up one of the new MacBook Pros with Retina display. I have it attached to a new Thunderbolt display. I used the migration assistant to transfer the files from an older MacBook Pro that was running the latest version of Lion. Once the user files, settings, apps, etc. were transferred, I rebooted and then logged in as the "transferred" user. At first the icon for the display settings appeared in the menu bar next to things like network settings, battery, volume, etc. but then it disappeared and I can't find any way to get it back. It is no longer a check box in the display settings within System Preferences.
Is this a function of the new MacBook Pro or a function of Lion. The other office computer, a 24" iMac, that was also upgreaded to Lion still has the check box. This is kind of important since this MacBook Pro is used on the road with LCD projectors as well as the Thunderbolt display and also just with the built in Retina display.

I've recently migrated to Lion and am finding the new layout of Mail frustrating as it shows my mail by the recipient rather than the sender. As the recipient is usually me, I have what appears to be a inbox of emails to myself but I have to open each email (or preview it) to reveal who actually sent it to me. Is there a way to have the sender (From field) showing in the list rather than the To field?
I need to have them sorted by Date so that the most recent messages are at the top. But when I choose View > Message Attributes the option to select "From" is already ticked but it is also greyed out.I have temporarily fixed this by using the classic view but I would really like to know how to do this in the new view?
