so recently i began noticing, I can't drag music, movies, etc files form ituens to my desktop if i just want a copy of them on the desktop.. I figured it just itunes bug that will fix it self on restart.. However then I noticed i can't drag downloaded files from safari's download tab on top right... Before i used to open a tab and drag files to the desktop form the tab, now same thing as in itunes.. Wont do it.. I can copy stuff on a finder level but it doesn't work from an app to a desktop/finder level.. Same thing with iphoto as well..

My #1 desktop picture cannot be modified or changed by any known method and I swear I have tried them all. I'll add the screen shot below. AND the #1 desktop cannot be delted. Re: Burning Desktop files and documents to a DVD - iMac - Lion. According to the "Help" feature, I put in a blank DVD and selected Finder as I was asked to do. I tried to move some files into the blank DVD window from my Desktop. But I could only move ONE file into the blank DVD window. It would NOT let me move any more files into the blank DVD window after moved the first one in. Why is that?
The "Help" featuer said I could move in my files and documents one at a time and them burn them all on the DVD. This is what did for years on my older iMac with Panther.
how to simply burn my Desktop folders and documents to a DVD. I did figure out how to burn ALL of the Desktop items to a DVD at the same time. I am asking about individually moving the items into the DVD window to be burned.

Just got my new 27" iMac with a huge screen. I positioned about five different apps on the screen all tiled neatly like a puzzle.I would like to permanently save this layout of apps. I realize Mission Control provides several desktop views. Problem is if I open other apps to perform temporary tasks, I can't seem to find a way to click one button and have everything go back to my neatly organized set of tiled apps on the desktop.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI tend to keep my desktop clean, but current projects stay in a folder on the desktop for the duration of work. Lion won't leave the folders where they are, but instead it is creating dated folders in Documents> Desktop and leaving the files there. If I wanted to nest the files away I would have done so myself. The actual Desktop area is empty. It's kind of infuriating. Any clues as to how to make it stop doing this and leave my files where I put them?

So I thought I'd try it with my modest Automator abilities: FIND, FILTER, MOVE TO FOLDER...BUT...but it only works if there are files of that type on the desktop, so if there happens to be no pics, the application stops right there, or if there are no docs, it stops there, etc.But if I put an item of each file type on the Desktop, sure enough it runs all the way to the conclusion. So how can I fix this? Tell it to move on even if there are no items of that type of MOVE. 'Cause right now it ain't good. I tried this to clean my Desktop and now I'm tossing junk all over the Desktop so the app can finish.

I've enjoyed the gestures on the MacBook Pro with Lion OSX very cool. I've started to swipe left and right with three fingers to switch between desktops, very nice and quick. However, if I forget and "click" to one of the applications that has it's own desktop it changes my desktop order. Can I "fix" or "set" the desktop order? Example: Mail desktop 1, Safari desktop 2, Word Processor desktop 3, Calendar desktop 4, Contacts desktop 5?If I forget to swipe between desktops but instead click in the menu bar the order of the desktops changes. Can I "set" the desktop order so that it does not change?

Ok so I understand how to change the grid spacing as shown above, but what have I set it to? What is the default. and what is the actual pixel spacing? I need to know this as I use an applescript that places the icon/folders on the desktop in a spaced format. If they loose there position the clean up function messes them up.

My Desktop & Screensaver preference pane (Lion 10.7.4) is not storing changes to the "Folders" section.
I added folders under "Folders" and later deleted the folders from my hard drive. The Desktop & Screensaver preference pane turned these folders into "ghost" folders.
So now I have several ghost folders under "Folders" in the Desktop tab of my Desktop & Screensaver preference pane. I can highlight each ghost folder and click the "-" button to delete it, but when I relaunch Desktop & Screensaver they return. Also, I can add new folders to the "Folders" section, but when I relaunch Desktop & Screensaver, they aren't there anymore.
