My desktop background seems to be locked. I'm not able to change it anymore...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am unable to change my desktop background. I can select whatever picture I want as the background in system preferences, but it won't actually change the background. Tried updating and restarting, did not work. Would there be any files or settings I have interfering with this?

I have the Macbook Pro 13" OS.X. Lion and can't change my desktop background [it's frozen to what I changed it to almost a month ago]. I've looked to drag out the "com.apple.systempreferences etc" file but I can't find it in my Library>Preferences.

For some reason, every time I turn my mac off, the desktop background changes. It always returns to the same picture, which was the second or third thing I changed my desktop to after getting my mac. Â
I have background switching unchecked in my preferences, and I have never selected it as an option. Also, when I go to my preferences, it will show the icon of the picture I changed it to, even though the desktop itself has switched back. Â

I have Lion I have Aperture 3. Â
I set the desktop background picture to photos on Aperture through right mouse clicking to "change destop background".
All the photos fhrough Aperture are present. I click the photo and it changes. I also use the screen saver using aperture photos. All of these photos are on an external drive and has been working flawlessly with Lion on my older imac.
Last week I bought a new imac with Lion. Everything is working the same as above except for when I shut down the imac. When I boot it back up, the mac supplied image of the milky way appears and the photo I had on the desktop prior to shutting down has been replaced by this.Â
The external is mounted and the screen saver after 5 minutes will show my Aperture photos....it is just the desktop photo that has been replaced..Â

Is there a way to move the desktop background when choosing the "Fill Screen" option? I have a portrait oriented picture of two standing people with their faces being near the top. When I set this picture as the background and chose "Fill Screen" it zooms in to the center of the picture, which is at chest level. Is there any way to move the picture up so it focuses on the faces, sort of like when chosing a Facebook profile picture?

So there was a power outage in my house while I was using my iMac, so it switched off. Now that I have power, when I try to turn my iMac on, nothing happens. I've made sure it's plugged in properly, and still no luck. What's wrong with it? Do i need to take it to an Apple store?

I downloaded a picture of the black Apple Linen texture online.I wanted to change the background of the finder. The picture is 1920x1080 so I figured the size would be fine I have the 21.5" iMac.But when I change to the picture it doesn't fill the page, but fills the top left of the page. The area of the picture doesn't change when I change the size of my Finder.I also downloaded a picture of size 128x128 The picture didn't stretch, it just took the size in the top left of my finder screen.

I want to change the effect of the background of launchpad. I know it is somehow possible... But I don't know how again. I found some websites and they told me to press Command + B, but that does not work for me!Â
And if you know how: Is it also possible to change the folder background of Launchpad?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook Pro (2008) was upgraded to Lion 10.7.2 before I bought it used. It's always been slow and after a little while it won't boot up properly, it only gets as far as the apple logo with the spinning wheel underneath. I've have used Recovery HD and Disk Utility to repair/verify the hard drive and after the repair it still won't boot up past the apple logo. I downloaded OSX Lion 10.7.4 (client combo) update onto an external drive but I can't install the update when using Recovery HD. I've tried mounting the existing hard drive onto an external drive, but I get an error mesage immediately.
There are only a few folders I need to take from the existing hard drive in the Macbook Pro. What can I do to either access my hard drive or get it to boot up properly? I have a retail copy of a Snow Leopard DVD that I can use. I believe I might have saved Lion onto a DVD a while ago, but Apple seems to insist we intall by downloading the latest Lion? Basically I need to access the hard drive without erasing the data

I've been using a custom login background tile by the usual method; replacing NSTexturedFullScreenBackgroundColor.png in System-->Library-->Frameworks-->AppKit.framework-->Versions-->C-->Resources. After the 10.7.4 update, my custom tile is still in the correct place, but the system is displaying the stock login .

I have two users setup on my late 2011 15" MBP with OSX 10.7.4. Occaissionaly when I utilitze Fast User Switching and switch to another user, the background picture will disappear and revert to the default blue background. I do not know what causes it or triggers it. So far I've fixed it by resetting the background back to the desired picture.

The application I am in, whether it Mail, Safari, anything really, even as I type this question will suddenly and very often go grey, like you have clicked on the desktop, you then click back to what you are working on and its fine, but this can happen several times in a minute, or then waits a few minutes, but when the window goes the light grey the menu still tells you at the top of the screen you are open in that particular application. its like the window is going to sleep until you click on it again and resume..Â

1: Just wiped drive and re-installed OS X Lion 10.7.3.
2: Upgrade iTunes from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3.
3: Restart, normally & fast.
4: Open iTunes.
5: Close iTunes.
6: Shutdown, and get the grey screen and spinning wheel...30min...1hr...2hr...I HAVE TO PRESS THE POWER BUTTON.
Why? Is it a bug in OS X Lion or iTunes 10.5.3?(mid 2010 MacBook Pro 371, OS X 10.7.3)
