Just got my new 27" iMac with a huge screen. I positioned about five different apps on the screen all tiled neatly like a puzzle.I would like to permanently save this layout of apps. I realize Mission Control provides several desktop views. Problem is if I open other apps to perform temporary tasks, I can't seem to find a way to click one button and have everything go back to my neatly organized set of tiled apps on the desktop.
View 1 RepliesI want to keep my school files on desktop two so they are all in the same place, and use desktop one as a place to perhaps save photos or other files not school related. When I swipe between desktops, the school files move between the desktops as I swipe but I want to keep them on one desktop all the time.

I just formatted my MBP and when I resynchronised Mail with my Yahoo a/c, the way Mail appears is a bit different from how I had it. I have OSX 10.7.3 and Mail 5.2.
I am unable to:
1. Get the headers of 'To, From, Flag, Size, Date' etc that would appear above my mails. Now I just see all my mails in a bunch, one above the other, without any header to them (I thought this was a simple case of changing some 'View' menu item, but I am unable to figure it out.
2. In Mail Preferences, it continues to show 'Microsoft Outlook.app' as default mail reader even if i change it to Mail.app. It reverts back to Outlook every time i reopen the Preferences window.

I was using Apple Mail's new layout that came with Lion and one fine day it morphed into the old classic layout. When I uncheck 'classic layout' from Mail-> Preferences -> Viewing, it goes back to the new layout but without the viewing pane on the right half of the screen, where you read emails highlighted in the inbox on the left.

If I do not use Time Machine, and open a new document in Pages, and type for ten minutes, and close the document, and click "Don't save" by mistake, is there any Auto Save or Versions of that document or just 100% out of luck? url...but I don't get any clear yes or no from it.

Since upgrading to Lion, I can't save changes or even save new documents in Pages on my laptop. When I try to save, I get the dialog box: "The document “Untitled 2” could not be saved as “Untitled 2”. Permission denied" I can't find anything in Pages preferences or in the System preferences where this setting can be changed if it is a setting.

I have 10.6.3 Mac OS and I have Microsoft Office 2011.
I am a student so I use Microsoft word a lot and when I use it I use it as Notebook layout.
When I first used it I had no problem at all. But then I don't know what happened but all of sudden the letters I type in would be on top of a line instead of writing between lines like as writing on a notebook.
I opened my previous notebook layout documents and compared it to the new one but couldn't find what was different.

Don't understand the download system on my macbook pro. When i used to download items on my G4,it went to the desktop. Now, I have ot use spotlite to select download folder and then look for the download.

I can't save files to my desktop. I have no problem saving the same file anywhere else. WHen I try through excel, for example, it tells me the file is read only. When I try to save it as a different file name, a pop up tells me I do not have permission to save to the desktop. The same issue occurs when I attempt to take a screen shot (default save to desktop)

I have students that keep changing the desktop background. I haven't found a way to disable it. I have it setup so they can't get to any of the preferences.

I recently used Migration Assistant to move my desktop computer's files to my MacBook Pro. All is well, besides the fact that I now have three users on my MacBook Pro ; my original account, my transferred account, and a test account (but that's not the issue). I cannot save files to my desktop anymore, in the account that was migrated over from my desktop to my Macbook. I get an error that says the following: /Users/Desktop/(filename) could not be saved, because you do cannot change the contents of that folder. Change folder properties and try again, or try saving in a different location.

I've noticed over the last few days that whatever i save, (word doc, iphoto, e-mail, iweb, final draft scripts) or create a new folder... it doesn't show on the desktop unitl i either restart the machine or log out and then log back in... and then all the files that haven't been appeared at the time show up.Any ideas on how to stop this without giving my machine a clean instal?

As soon as the App Store finished downloading it, it went straight into the install sequence. Before the problematic ridden Lion OS, I was always able to save a pdf page in Safari simpy be Save or Save as. Now I always get the annoying message ''File xxxx can not be exported as xxxx.pdf". I am unable to save documents created on Pages and Textedit on my main "Macintosh HD" after the first save. If I create a document, save it then edit it and try to save again it comes up with "This document "test" could not be saved" No extra info other than that message.
If I try to save onto my second drive, " Macintosh HD 2" (the non-boot drive) it works fine.
I have
1/ checked read and write permissions and my Macintosh HD and they are set for "read & write"
2/ I have repaired disk premissions using Disc Utilities to no avail
3/ booted using Cmd - R and used terminal and applied "reset home directory permissions and ACL's" to no avail.
