OS X :: Mac Mail - Incoming Message Slow Download
Oct 6, 2010I've noticed a problem with my mac mail. The number 1 over the mail icon comes up to show I have a new mail, but upon clicking into mail to see it, who it is from and the subject line is there, but it takes 20-30 seconds for the mail to download. This is happening across all email accounts, coming from a mixture of imap and pop accounts. I've also noticed in my activity monitor that my amount of free system memory is very low (dropping to under 50 meg when I have things open). If I install more system memory, do you think this will solve the email problem.

Nov 28, 2010I'm using a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo imac with 3GB memory running OS 10.5.8. I've been using mac mail at home, work and on the move for years and have only ever had a couple of minor problems with it. However last Friday, after using it normally in the office, I went out, leaving the machine to sleep. When I came back my mail wouldn't download past message number 7 and it said there were 400+ emails to download when it should have been maximum 10. I tried to shut down mail but every time I tried to shut it down it wouldn't shut down.
I had to 'force quit' even though 'force quit' didn't say 'not responding' alongside mail. When I reopened mail the number of 'new' messages dropped to only 170 odd, but still I can't get past the 10th email and the download speed goes to zero. Also I can't delete some existing messages in my inbox. They go light grey but don't delete. I am able to use mail as normal on my home mac which uses mail with the same account settings as my office mac. I can also access my emails via my iPhone and webmail.

Mar 20, 2012I am using the Mail (5.2) app in OS 10.7. I have my Inbox sorted by decending date, i.e. newest mail at the top. When I delete a message, Mail currently selects the message above, i.e. the one that had arrived after the deleted one chronologically. Since I work through my emails from newest to latest (usually), I will already have seen the newer mesage. What I want to see is the next message on the list, i.e. the next one, which arrive before the deleted one. My question there is: How can I advance to the previous message rather than the next one (chronologically) after deleting a message?

May 3, 2012I'm trying to correct a problem with my wife's iCloud email account. I cannot change the 'Incoming Mail Server' name in the 'Account Information panel. If I delete the account and start a new one, I can enter the correct name ... "imap.mail.me.com". However, once I click on create, the Incoming Mail Server name reverts to 'mail.example.com.Â

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Won't Wake For Incoming Network Access
Jun 2, 2012After Lion upgrade I cannot get my remote access program (Timbuktu) to show my desktop to remote users. The sleeping screen (not the hard drive) is set for "Wake for network access" and all other settings are checked and appropriate including an update to the newest Timbuktu 8.8.3. The screen wakes from keyboard or trackball activity but not for incoming access. Note: The remote user sees the frame for the desktop in Timbuktu but is shows a sleeping (dark) screen. The file and clipboard exchanges still work but the screen ignores the instruction to wake. Access worked perfectly with Timbuktu until three weeks ago. Then it just sleeps like a teenager on Saturday morning unless tapped on the shoulder by a parent. Call-ins don't get answered.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Java Accept Incoming Network Connections?
Mar 13, 2012I have several home security cameras that utilize Java.I've had them for years. But just in the past day, I've begun noticing a lightning fast popup that comes flying by and leaves so fast I can't even read it. It happens when I first launch one of the cameras in either Safari or Firefox (likely would do the same in other browsers too. I finally had to use a screen recording app to be able to record when the pop up flies by.I then slowly scrolled and paused on the message.It is a standard security message that says, "Do you want the application "Java" to accept incoming network connections?"Â
There is an ALLOW and DENY button but there's no way the popup ever is on the screen long enough for you to even read it, let alone click on a selection. I see lots of other posts about this around the discussion forum and I see how I could go into the Security preferences and perhaps allow network connections there, assuming I can figure out how to point to the correct piece of Java code (System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk???) But my bigger question is why now? I haven't done any updates in the recent past and I log onto to these cameras every day... Granted this popup goes by fast but it is noticeable... Had it been there a week ago I would have noticed it... But no... It just started today. Why? And why would any message that seeks a user choice automatically appear and then disappear within a fraction of a second?

May 16, 2012All of my email accounts are IMAP accounts.It seems like Mail won't automatically apply rules to new messages that appear in the inbox, if those messages were previously read on another device. It seems like Mail will only apply inbox rules to a new message if it comes in as "unread". For example, if I was reading some email messages in my iPhone's inbox, and then I come home and turn on my Mac and launch Mail, all of those messages show up for the VERY FIRST TIME in Mail's inbox. But none of the rules are applied to those messages, because I've previously read them somewhere else. This seems to be either a bug in Mail, or a poor design choice in Mail. Is there any way to FORCE Mail to apply rules to all incoming messages that appear in the inbox, regardless of whether or not they were previously read on another device?Â

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mac.com Incoming Activity Wheel Won't Stop Spinning
Jun 15, 2012For a couple of days now the activity wheel on my incoming iCloud/mac.com mailbox won't stop spinning.Mail seems 'extra' active in Activity Monitor but I cannont discern what it is doing very long log file with no obvious crashes or repeating patterns (to my amateur eye).There is no send/receive activity indicated in the Mail Activity pane of Mail just the wheel spinning constantly in my mac.com inbox.I seem to receive all the mail sent to that account so nothing obvious being blocked or missing just the constant activity.
I've rebuilt the mailbox but that didn't help.It has been fine up to a couple of days ago and I've not sent nor received any odd or very large files.

Feb 14, 2012I was trying to back-up the HD Library file and it would not perform an update. I kept getting an error message for each item in the folder could not be updated. So, I took the HD versio of Library and put it in the TRASH, then tried again to back-up this version of Library. The same error messages occurred. I then put that error message screen into the trash, but it would not TRASH. A 'Copy' screen pops up with the following messge:Â "The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred [error code -8062]."Â
