In prep for moving to the "Cloud", I downloaded Lion last night without the knowledge that my 2005 version of Office would no longer be supported. Silly me, now I need to either switch to IWORKS or something else, immediately, so I can get back to work. If I download IWORKS or LIBRE will I be able to open my OFFICE files that are already on my computer?

I updated to Lion on my desktop a few months ago and I swear now I can't read older Microsoft word and Excel documents correctly on this computer using Office 2011. The document opens and you can see all of the data in a preview window (from finder) but once it opens fully the data/words are not there. I have Lion on a brand new Macbook Pro I just purchased and installed the Microsoft Office 2011 and it opened the excel document I was having trouble with fine.I can't find many links for Office for Mac issues.Â
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was just playing around with my 11" MBA and found it doesn't seem to support the 64-bit OS X kernel. I tried holding the 6 and 4 keys at bootup then running 'uname -a' in the terminal and it reports I'm still running the 32-bit kernel. I also tried running "sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture x86_64" and it reported that the architecture had successfully been changed, but on rebooting I found I was still running the 32 bit kernel.

Every sheet music app on the ipad is terrible and apple stands to make a lot of money, seeing as how I would buy all of my sheet music from them if they did it right. This seems like it's right up their alley too, with the strong support of the arts on their devices.

My attempts to install Mac OSX 10.6 on iMac MC309 bring always the same result - kernel pamick. What I did was:1. insert DVD Snow Leopard Install Disk, reboot and press ''C' - kernel panick;2. reboot into Recovery Mode, open Disk Utility, erase  the preinstalled Lion completely, format the disk as Mac OS Extended (journaled). Then try to reboot  into DVD  Mac OSX 10.6 install disk: kernel panick.3. In Disk Utility go to restore tab, use DVD install disk as source and use my disk as destination, hit restore. When trying to reboot kernel panick happens.

Finally took the plunge tonight and installed Windows 7 on a partition on my new Retina MBP. Everything's beautiful, runs fine... after playing around in native 2880x1800 for a while, I decided to see how this gorgeous screen would look at exactly 1/2 its native resolution. Open display properties... screen resolution... There is no option in either the windows native resolution pane or the nVidia Control Center to switch resolution to exactly 1440x900. Closest is 1600x900, which of course is the wrong aspect ratio.Â
I kept running games in OS X at 1440x900 and it would render all interpolated and blurry, and I thought that was simply Apple's funky scaling for the Retina display... but something's seriously wrong if I can't run a 2880x1800 screen at 1440x900. Of course, I can always define a custom resolution, but I'm scared to do that... I have no idea why 1440x900 isn't an option and I don't want to experiment on my brand new $2,200 toy.Â

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an Intel-based iMac which I just upgraded two days ago from Snow Leopard to Lion (10.7.4). I did an upgrade-in-place (as opposed to a fresh install) and did a software update after the installation completed. I have my computer scheduled to wake up each morning at 6 a.m. When it wakes up, the sound doesn't work unless I reboot the computer. If I open up iTunes and try to play music, there is no sound (unless I reboot). The song progress meter at the top of iTunes won't even move when I hit the play button. When I open the Sound preference and click the Output tab, I do see the Headphone port and the output volume is set all the way up.

It does not accept the product key provided in the box (ordered from amazon). I have tried virtually every possible misprint/mispelling of the product key... but the product key seems to be easy enough to read to me...
Microsoft's site has no support number listed. Microsoft assigns you installation a unique number, then does not accept it for help on the support site.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on the HP Designjet System Maintenance Utility icon on my desktop for my HPDesignjet 120 I get the message
" The HP Designjet System Maintenance Utility installed on your desktop does not have support for HP designjet printers installed ."
The printer is working and but needs colour calibration , printhead cleaning etc, which I believe can only be accessed through the sytem maintenance utility.
I have asked the question on other forums but have had no success . I am assuming that as this printer is now discontinued from the HP range people may not now be familiar with it .
I am aware that all the necessary drivers etc are integral with Mac OSX 10.5 but when I started having problems I downloaded drivers from the net and I fear I may have added to the problem
Could anyone help in getting me access to the maintenance utility function?
