View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter installing a fresh copy of Snow Leopard onto my Macbook Pro I reinstalled Ms Office 2008 from the CD only to find that every time I open it, it crashes straight away. The only one that works in entourage which runs absolutely fine! If found a few threads in the forums about using illegal copies and Microsoft blocking it. However I am using a fully paid for 3 user version of office.
I've tried deleting the files found in
~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Microsoft Office 2008 Settings.plist
/Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/OfficePID.plist
and used a different serial code. However the problem still persists. I've even tried installing from a different disc and it still doesn't work.
So I got Office 2011; it's pretty good stuff. Unlike Windows based systems, it did not remove Office 2008 which is different. I am wondering if there is any reason that I should or should not remove 2008 since I have 2011 (exact same programs).
View 4 Replies View RelatedI suddenly can't open office documents (ppt, word or excel docs) in entourage when people send them to me as attachments. i think there was a software update recently, and maybe it was this that caused it. But, it is driving me crazy. I can open the attachments inside mac mail fine. In Entourage, says they may not be a ppt, or word, etc. doc, or that they may be "in-use."

Well, what's annoying, is that I can not click these events or open them. E.g. I am alerted to a conference call, I click it to open and grab the dial in number and nothing happens. In Word, when I go File, Open the application hangs. It open the finder like window but it has a huge amount of columns and spans across at least ten screens. I have the spinning pin-wheel and the application reports as not responding. It does not happen when I do file, open recent.
Used to use Microsoft 2000 Word Processor on Dell Laptop. My iMac is 2 weeks old and documents have successfully been transferred from the Dell to Mac via Maxtor external hard drive.  How can I open the Word Processing documents - NOT to use, but to read. I'm planning my upgrade to Lion. I need the non-Web Services Edition of Office for Mac 2008 so that I can connect to my employer's MS Exchange Server 2003 via Entourage 2008. I can only find the Web Services Edition on Microsoft's website- but that won't work for me.
My understanding is that I need Office for Mac 2008 version 13.3 or earlier. When I shop online, the products offered do not specify the version they are selling.
Does anybody know a sure-fire way or place to get the right version?
After upgrading to Lion, I can no longer see the text in my word documents or excel worksheets. I know the text is there because it appears in the formula bar - it just isn't visible in the cells. I can also see the text if I quickview the excel files. In the word documents, all I can see are the pictures/images...no text. Weird. I have the latest version of Office 2008 and Lion OS.Â

I forgot my administrator's password for my home computer. I purchased office 2008 for mac with a free upgrade to office 2011. I upgraded it to 2011 when it came out (late 2010/early 2011). I have since made a new password and forgotten what it is. The mac tells me to reinstall my microsoft office but when I do, with the office 2008 disc, it tells me I have MORE RECENT SOFTWARE and to use that. I did it on line and cannot find it again.Â

More specifically, Microsoft said Word should now launch more quickly and tables will no longer included random instances of bold text. Other changes improve the display of form fields and the reliability of headers & footers in the word processing application.

Other changes to Entourage focused on improving junk mail filtering, recurring calendar events, time zone information, embedded images, and the reliability when Entourage establishes a encrypted channel.

My wife is in school and receives her lectures via powerpoint slides (.ppt). I think they are generated with a pre-2007 PC version of powerpoint. She cannot open this .ppt file with Office 2008 on leopard. Powerpoint there just says that the file was created with an older version of powerpoint and is no longer supported. Is it possible that Powerpoint no longer supports its own format?! Does anyone else have this problem? Are there ways around this? Does it seem ridiculous that we can't even open an older version of the file in a new program? I know there are programs to convert new files for older software versions, but not converting old files for newer software versions!

I get a message saying "____ quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to Apple automatically". But when I select 'Reopen' it keeps on returnng to that page which is filled with details that don't mean anything to me - lots of numbers and the repeated use of the word 'crash'. All I can do is select 'OK' which closes that box but doesn't open the apps.

What is the best way to eliminate Office 2008 and to ensure a clean Office 2011 install?
For most Mac programs, I would normally drag the application folder to the trash, and then do a library search for some entries related to the program. Will this work for Office 2008 to Office 2011? I ask because the M$ installers seem to more than simply add the app to your app folder and update the libraries - and don't get me started on the horrors of the Windoze registry errors.
So here is my dilemma. I got a letter a few days ago from the college I am going to, and it included a list of requirements if we were bringing our own computer. One of the requirements was if we had a Mac, to have Office 2008. I have talked to a friend who is replacing her current Macbook with another Macbook later in the summer, and we decided that when she bought her Macbook, that we could split the price of Microsoft Office for Mac 2008.
