I got all my data transferred from an old macbook to a new macbook pro. Now none of my Microsoft applications will open or work. (Excel, Word)

I just got a MacBook Air and transferred all my data from my old Macbook Pro last week. My microsoft office will not open. It opens the M.O. set-up assistant and I run through the steps and check for new updates, install the updates, and then it doesn't open the program. I try to click on the program again, and it runs me through the set-up assistant and updates everytime.

I updated to Lion on my desktop a few months ago and I swear now I can't read older Microsoft word and Excel documents correctly on this computer using Office 2011. The document opens and you can see all of the data in a preview window (from finder) but once it opens fully the data/words are not there. I have Lion on a brand new Macbook Pro I just purchased and installed the Microsoft Office 2011 and it opened the excel document I was having trouble with fine.I can't find many links for Office for Mac issues.Â

I frequently back up to an external drive and understand I will be able to connect that drive to my new computer and using the migration assistant, I will be able to transfer everything across. It really ***** me that Office 2004 places the Microsoft User Data folder in your Users/Accountname/Documents folder, and if you move it it just makes a new one Is there any reliable way to move the location to somewhere else and keep it that way? The Documents folder should be the realm of the user and the user alone, damn applications should keep their noses out!

Now i have been using office 2007 for the past year and a half and have rehabilitated to the new format. This is the worst piece of software I have ever used. Before I even use it.
It does not accept the product key provided in the box (ordered from amazon). I have tried virtually every possible misprint/mispelling of the product key... but the product key seems to be easy enough to read to me...
Microsoft's site has no support number listed. Microsoft assigns you installation a unique number, then does not accept it for help on the support site.
Office 2011, you are a steaming pile of crap, and it will be a cold day in hell before I buy another Microsoft product.
In prep for moving to the "Cloud", I downloaded Lion last night without the knowledge that my 2005 version of Office would no longer be supported. Silly me, now I need to either switch to IWORKS or something else, immediately, so I can get back to work. If I download IWORKS or LIBRE will I be able to open my OFFICE files that are already on my computer?

So I currently have a late 2008 MacBook Pro. I may be getting a new iMac for Christmas. My question is, is there a way to basically transfer all of my files/programs/etc. to the new Mac without having to reinstall everything? The iMac will become my primary computer, and the MBP will become kind of a sitting on the couch/travel computer. This is the first time I will be upgrading Macs, as the MBP was my first non-PC computer.

airport also seems broken. can not sharing my internet for iphone.
internet sharing is on, firewall is off. iphone can connect to the wireless, but wont DHCP the right ip address. before it was something like 10.0.0.x when its working. now the ip adress i got on the iphone its 169.254.xxx.xxx
