OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can't Get Any Widescreen Resolutions Using A MDP - VGA Adapter

Apr 21, 2012

I recently purchased an Official Apple Mini-display port to VGA adpter for use with 2011 unibody MacBook Pro and Samsung Syncmaster 2232 BW external monitor. When plugging everything in and going into displays, I am presented with the attatched display, with no option for any 16:10 resolutions, everything non widescreen down from 1600 x 1200. I've tried SwitchResX with no avail, and don't know what else to try? This is my monitor and its Native settings are 1680 x 1050?

OS X :: Widescreen Better Than Old 4:3 Aspect Ratio?

Oct 28, 2009

So why is Widescreen better than the "old" 4:3 aspect ratio? I haven't seen a website/document where content is arranged 16:9, is this seriously JUST for movies? I just started using my old Thinkpad t60 again, and its 15" whcih feels allot bigger than my 15.4" MacBook Pro. who exactly needs widescreen andy why are they still measure monitors in inch wouldn't it make more sense to do a Pixel/cm^2 ?? plain cm^2 would be better as well

Applications :: DVD Studio Pro Templates In Widescreen?

Feb 19, 2007

In DVDSP3 (or 4 I believe), not all of the Apple menu templates can cope with being stretched to 16:9.

Some adjust themselves when you change the menu's aspect, other's don't expand to fill the screen.

I'm told you can adjust the template file directly (in Photoshop or whatever).

I currently have a macBook Pro with a 22" widescreen Smasung monitor. Is there anyway to make it so the computer "cuts off the sides" so it can make 4:3 ratio without stretching anything? I want to play an old game from 1999 on Windows XP that doesn't look good on widescreen.

MacBook :: Why Can't Output My Video In Widescreen

Feb 7, 2010

I've tried on two different monitors, and the best I can do is widescreen that will fill about 75% of the screen. It leaves darkness all the way around the edges. On my 19" widescreen monitor that means I have about 2-3" around every edge that is wasted. Not only that, but on this particular monitor the display comes out with lots of "noise" that creates random dots of color all over the screen. I am using a mac dongle to an hdmi cable..

OS X :: How To Use Lower Resolutions On A Mac

Jun 28, 2009

I am getting a Macbook Pro where the native resolution will be 1440 x 900 (I think).

Some older games (that I like to still play) do not support wide screen resolutions. On my PC this isn't an issue because under the nvidia control panel there is an option to tell the resolution not to scale. You get a black border around your screen if you do this, but at least it doesn't stretch it which looks awful.

Applications :: IDVD Widescreen Project Too Wide For TV?

Mar 19, 2009

I'm going nutz and have read a bunch of other threads on this but most of it is way over my head. I just made a movie on iMovie and then moved it to iDVD. I am using iLife 08. The projects (the movie and dvd) were both widescreen. Everything was great! Looked great on the computer etc... But then I played the dvd on my widescreen TV and the top and bottom of the picture (including titles I had put on the bottom of the screen using the imovie templates) had been cut off. Not letter boxed but rather they seemed to not fit on the screen. I tried changing my tv settings but nothing seems to work. Does anyone know what might be up? I also tried to burn the dvd as a standard 4:3 project and the resulting DVD still had the top and bottom cut off. Is this an issue with my DVD/TV?

Applications :: IDVD - Stretched Video On A Widescreen TV

May 4, 2010

I put together a video of photos on imovie. I took it to iDVD and made a disc image. (My mac mini does not have a DVD drive, so I have to transfer the image to the PC and burn it to DVD there.) Once the final product is on DVD, I stick it in the DVD player... and.... the video is STRETCHED! (It's a widescreen TV...) The DVD looks good when played on a computer, but on our TV it looks stretched.

Is there any particular reason why this resolution would be in OS X but not Windows? Is there a way to get 1280x800 to work in Windows?

OS X :: Wallpaper Size To Use For Multiple Resolutions?

Oct 9, 2010

My current set up involves my 13" MacBook Pro (1280x800 res screen) hooked up to my external 1920x1080 24" monitor. I love using desktop wallpapers, but am trying to figure out a unified resolution that would match both screen resolutions since I frequently unhook my MacBook Pro and use it without the main monitor attached. I also dual-boot with Windows 7 so I have a shared partition that I have the wallpapers in. I thought I could disconnect the MacBook Pro and have a separate wallpaper for it in OS X; however, since I use it with the lid closed, when I did that, the wallpaper I had on my main monitor was used on my MacBook Pro's screen. For those of you who have a similar set up, what resolution wallpaper do you use that works without adjustment on both 1080p and 1280x800 resolutions? 1900x1200?

I know that with Windows, you would just use software supplied with the video card and make the computer "think" that it's 1 big display. With OS X, is there any way I can play games at triple monitor resolutions? I am also open to Bootcamp ideas, but then don't you have the same problem again because you have multiple video cards instead of just one?

Hardware :: Window Sizes And Positions For Different Resolutions?

May 17, 2009

I just bought a 24" ACD, and I love it. However, because my MacBook Pro is only 1440x900 resolution, if I resize anything it'll go out of proportion on my MacBook Pro screen.

Ideally, if there was such a program, I'd love to be able to have my windows set a size and position for 1900x1200 resolution, and for them to have a different size and revert to that when I use my MacBook Pro's 1440x900 display.

Does that make sense? I just don't think I can be bothered having to resize Safari, drag any windows that were over on the right hand side of the 24" display back over on my MacBook Pro display just to see them when I unplug the 24".

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to make an application that does something like that - just take note of the window positions and sizes for both resolutions and switch between them when the resolution is changed.
