PowerPC :: Why I Cannot Use The 65W Adapter On My 12" Book In Place Of The Yo-Yo Adapter
Jun 25, 2007
I have the 65W white square adapter for my 17" Powerbook, and I have the Yo-Yo adapter for my 12" Ibook (G3 500 mhz).Is there any reason why I cannot use the 65W adapter on my 12" book in place of the Yo-Yo adapter? (I know for power requirement reasons I cannot use the Yo-Yo on my 17")

I have the AirPort Extreme base station 802.11n and was thinking of using it as a way to access a wireless signal since my newly acquired G5 tower doesn't have a wireless card.
Is is possible to use the base station as a wireless access instead of the card?
Caveat: I have a MacBook Pro that I use with a built in wireless card. I get my signal from a wireless signal from my upstairs friend/landlord's network. He uses a Linksys router and modem from the cable company.
Is there a way around buying a wireless card or USB adapter for this G5?

Buying both the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter AND Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter is pretty expensive...
I was wondering if I purchase the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, will I be able to use a simple DVI to VGA adapter to use it as a VGA adapter also???
I'm not sure if the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter only sends digital signal or digital & analog signal.

I have an 2010 Mac Book Pro 15" - I've bought MiniDisplayPort to DVI adapter but when I try to connect it to my screen it does not work.
When I connect the cable to the computer the MacBook internal display do a flicker (turn on and right back on) so it defiantly "fell" something but the external screen does not show anything.
Also in the System Profiler in Graphics/Display both Intel and NVidia video cards show
Display Connector:
Status:No Display Connected
Is it possible that the adapter is simply defected or there is other issues?

I have finally gotten my PowerMac G5 to boot. It was given to me, so I did not know much about this machine. Once I got it working, I realized it is missing a bluetooth and airport module. I do not want to take the pricy route of getting internal Airport and internal Bluetooth. Can anybody point me to link for relatively cheap USB bluetooth and WiFi adapters that will work properly with 10.5.8 Leopard?

I bought one of these for my Dual G5: [URL]. I'm getting another G5 (single this time around since i got no $$) and I need to figure out how to get my 320 gig ata drive in a G5. I need to draw power to that hard drive and I'm not sure how to. Do I split the power between the ata hard drive and the dvd drive? I know I need another part but which one? I should have asked this weeks ago before fiddling around with my Dual G5.

So i recently bought a Zonet usb wireless adapter (ZEW2051) on tiger direct for around 7 bucks and now want to use it with my ibook (my airport card isn't working). I have seen solutions for other cards but can't seem to find an answer for this one.
System Profiler recognizes it as
Quote:
USB2.0 WLAN:
Version:48.02
Bus Power (mA):500
Speed:Up to 480 Mb/sec
Manufacturer:ZyDAS
Product ID:0x1211
Vendor ID:0x0ace

It got REALLY hot. I had to snap my hand back after touching it, and my hand was red. I noticed it had turned off, so I went to see what was the matter. It felt hot enough to possibly catch fire.

I have a 12" Powerbook 1 ghz (yes, it's getting old) running Tiger. When it's turned off, it charges just fine. However, when the computer is on, the power from the adapter keeps cycling on and off. For example, the lighted band around the power adapter tip switches from orange to off (NOT to green) repeatedly: about 3-4 seconds with power (lighted band is orange, screen backlight is bright, and if I'm in the Energy Saver section of the System Preferences, it thinks it's plugged in) and about 1 second with no power (lighted band is off, screen backlight dims, and if I'm in Energy Saver area, the computer thinks it's on battery power.
This is irritating because 1) the computer won't charge when on, and 2) as I type this, the screen goes from bright to dim to bright to dim etc.
Obvious answer is the power adapter, but I don't have access to another. What does everyone think? is it the adapter or some other problem?
FWIW, the internal hard drive just died and I'm booting from an external FireWire drive. It started doing this power thing a few days before the internal hard drive died.

I recently purchased an old Powerbook G4 since my iBook G4 recently died on me (After 5+ years). I'm using the Powerbook for a temp computer until Arrandale comes out on the next revision of the macbook/macbook pro.
My question is can I use my iBook 45W adapter to power the Powerbook? I believe the original adapters for the Powerbooks were 65W. If it is possible are there any fire hazards of the power brick overheating or shorting out the Powerbook?

What is the best way to go about this? I have seen some on Amazon that are dirt cheap but I don't know if they work. This is kinda off topic but will this work with a g4 AGP?

My friend found an old Performa 6300 from 1995. It's fully working aside from the missing ADB mouse. I've been searching for an ADB to USB adapter or even an USB card but to no avail.

I just bought a 74w NewerTech battery about 3 weeks ago but I don't think that is the problem....
I can run my iBook off of the AC adapter fine but when I unplug it it automatically shuts off as if there is no battery in it.
It shows that the battery is charging and everything in the menubar but when I unplug it, it will shut off. This just happened today and earlier today I was working on it with the battery working fine.
I also switched out to the old stock battery and it does the same thing.
I think it has to be hardware related. I have reset the PMU and PRAM/NVRAM and it didn't help. Also when I started the computer back up it said that my clock was reset. Feedback is much appreciated.

This morning my ibook was on sleep (was working 100% last night chagring while I was using it) and this afternoon took it off sleep and used it around the house. Now when I went to put it on charge nothing was happening just going from calculating and then back to battery(not cool) so I thought I would try with out the battery and as I suspected the comp turned off so its not even running off the adapter.
I don't think it would b the adapter thats the problem because it was working a few hours before and is almost new. So is it the DC in board? I've tried resenting the Pram and the other power one. Also when my ibook was plugged into my 5.1 system it always made a buzzing sound from the speakers when it was on AC power but when unplugged was fine however now it makes no sound at all but if turned up really loud makes a clicking sound.

My adapter caught on fire, and I had to put it out. When I tried to charge my battery with a new adapter, it would not charge. I got another battery, (old one from a friend), that apparently had some juice left on it. The computer turned on no problem, and I used it for about 20 minutes when I noticed that the battery was slowly dying, and that it would not charge again. Now, its dead again. It will not charge. Does this sound like a logic board problem? Who can I contact?

Anyway, I have a Powerbook G4 that's about five years old. It doesn't have an internal wireless card so I bought a Linksys wireless adapter to plug into the side of my computer when I first got the computer. It worked fine for years. I recently reformatted my hard drive and now when I insert the wireless adapter it no longer will allow me to connect to the internet. I'm aware that Linksys doesn't have drivers for Mac users so I'm kinda confused how I got it to work in the first place. I don't remember installing any third party software, but I may have-- it was a few years ago. what I should do to allow me to use my linksys card in my Mac? I've heard of Orangeware but I'm not sure if that's the solution.
Oh one more thing, when I plug the card in, an icon appears in the top right corner that shows something is plugged into the port but doesn't allow me to click on it and search for wireless connections.

The 45 watt power adapter on my 12 inch powerbook is on it's last legs. I have access to a very cheap replacement but it's a 65 watt adapter that came with the 15 & 17 inch models. Is it safe to use this as a replacement?

well it does charge just not how it should. when i plug the ibook into the power adapter usually nothing happens. i have to jiggle the plug in just the right way to get it to charge and this involves putting pressure on it in some direction. it has gotten worse so now i have to have constant pressure on it for it to charge. i have tried 2 different chargers so i know its not that. i was thinking maybe the DC board but i was not sure.

Don't want to ask the Apple Store since they'll just tell me I can't, but can I use the 85W power adapter that came with the 15"MBP on the new Air with no damage? Ok, to use in a pinch?
Hmmm, how about the other way around (using a 45W power adapter on the 15"), I am thinking "no damage" just that it would take longer to re-charge?

I have a 13" MacBook that I purchased in Feb 2008, and need to do some presentations from it, so I'm looking for the correct VGA adapter for it. I believe there was some change in the display on the Macbooks, so I'm sure if the current MiniDisplay to VGA adapter sold at Apple will work for fine.

Are there any that a store like best Buy sells that are compatible with a Mac / Macbook? I need to pick up a signal in another room, and the only way would be to run a long USB cord attached to a wireless adapter...but it seems like none of the bigger brands sell Mac-compatible versions. If anyone knows of a compatible adapter, please post about it!
