Apple Mini Display Port does NOT work at resolutions over 1600X1200 on NON Apple Cinema Displays.
That means if you own any other brand of monitor such as NEC, Lacie, etc. you will NOT get native resolution on your 24 inch monitor as it is stuck at a maximum resolution of 1600X1200.
This story was mentioned on "Macbreak Weekly" show 4-14-2009. I have since checked with a few people and it would indeed seem to be true at this point.
I REALLY hope a solution from Apple comes soon and this is not some new policy of theirs. If so, it may be the last Mac Pro I will or can ever own. The reason is I do a lot of 3D work with C4D, Vue, Modo and Photoshop CS4 so I MUST have a monitor like the high-end ones from Lacie that have 100% color gamut and Adobe RGB. I can NOT be tied down to an Apple Cinema display due to that work. At this time, it seems this means I would only get 1600X1200 resolution on that 24 inch monitor.
I am HIGHLY concerned by this. Has anyone else confirmed this too and if so what the heck is Apple thinking or better still going to do about it? I LOVE my Mac Pro but if they start forcing Apple displays on us then I won't be buying another Mac, it's just that simple.
I've got the latest Mac Mini and have a Mini DVI to VGA adapter and also a Mini Display Port to VGA adapter. My monitors are a 19" 1440x900 one one the left and a 1920x1080 one on the right. I have the 1920x1080 through the Mini DP connection and it displays a perfect 1080p image. My problem is that the 1440x900 resolution does not show within the display options, although other resolutions do.

I bought my MacBook Pro last year. It shipped with Snow Leopard. Since then I have been using File Vault, and within my Library folder, I had one main folder, a sub folder, and a sub-sub folder locked. Never had any problems accessing those folders. Yesterday, I upgraded to Lion and now the "Library" folder does not even show up and is unsearchable.
I tried turning off the Legacy File Vault and it required more disk space than I had available on the main hard drive, so I cloned the HD onto my LaCie 4TB Thunderbolt drive, making a bootable drive, re-booted from LaCie, and de-crypted it on there. This did not make my folder re-appear.Do I need to revert to Snow Leopard in order to see that folder again? De-crypt and then upgrade to Lion?

I recently purchased an Official Apple Mini-display port to VGA adpter for use with 2011 unibody MacBook Pro and Samsung Syncmaster 2232 BW external monitor. When plugging everything in and going into displays, I am presented with the attatched display, with no option for any 16:10 resolutions, everything non widescreen down from 1600 x 1200. I've tried SwitchResX with no avail, and don't know what else to try? This is my monitor and its Native settings are 1680 x 1050?

I just upgraded my macbook to 10.7.4 and Safari 5.1.7. I don't know what caused it, but text and icons display as smiley faces and the default font has changed. I have a Mac Mini as well, and I did the exact same upgrades and nothing changed. Here are a few examples of what is happening.

I just upgraded (well the Mac store in Turin italy did it for me, I probably should have done it myself!). Everything great except I lost all my smart mailboxes and regular mailboxes. I had a big file of mail called "archive" - when I go to create a new one, I get a message that a file named "archive" already exists.

I have a back up of her users setting from 10.3 so I know have her emails but don't know what I should do?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been working on an Excel file for the last month continuously saving at every moment. At some point something happened and the file name now included a (version 1) after the original file name. I didn't worry about that because I was able to work on the file and keep on saving my work. I did some changes yesterday and saved it. All of a sudden I got a message that there was an upgrade ready to be installed at night. So I saved the file and did the upgrade. my file was nowhere to be found. I keep looking at Finder and I can only find a file with a similar name not the one with the (version 1) on it. I opened that file but it doesn't include any of the changes and updates I have done in the last month. I never deleted the file and I have double checked on the Trash and its not there. Is there a way to recover my file? The only thing that I did differently was that I completely powered of my mac as opposed to just closing it.

I have a 3.06 Intel Core Duo iMac and a 253 Intel Core i5 Macbook Pro. Both are running 10.6.8. They have until recently successfully shared my HP C8180 All in One Printer, the iMac being connected to the printer via USB and to a Netgear Router via Ethernet and the Macbook Pro being linked to the router wirelessly.
Having just updated the HP Drivers via software update on both machines the Macbook Pro is no longer able to connect to the printer via the iMac wirelessly and the printer is not reported as being "Nearby". It does however connect via the iMac if it is connected to the router via Ethernet !
Printer sharing is on on the iMac, I have tried removing the printer from both machines Preferences and re-instating them (which coincidentally has meant I have lost the connection to "Lightscribe" and can't get it back on either machine !) I've tried installing the latest HP Software to try and get the Macbook pro to connect to the printer directly via the router but witth no success - it reports that some of the HP software is not compatible with 10.6.8 despite HP saying it is for 10.6.
how I can get the laptop to print in the way it did up until earlier today and how to get "lightscribe" back?
How do I restore my contacts that were lost during Mavericks upgrade? All of my contacts are gone. My version of Contacts in Time Machine is 7.1, which can't be opened in Mavericks (version 8.0). I know they are in there somewhere. I also don't use ICloud, so I can't find them there.

Just bought a new MacBook (OSX 10.6.1 w/4GB RAM) and ViewSonic 22" monitor. When I hooked it up (via DVI) and loaded the VewSonic drivers, I got the max resolution of 1920 x 1080. Earlier today, I came back and woke up my MacBook - and got only a snowy screen on the monitor and couldn't get anything on the laptop. Restarted and now, even though the display shows 1920 x 1080, it is not providing that resolution. The max for the laptop shows 1280 x 800 and that is about what is showing on the monitor as well. I keep resetting the resolution on the monitor at 1920 x 1080 - but the screen size doesn't change.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a Kanex iAdapt so I can use my TV as a secondary display. It works but there are a few annoying problems.
1) When I set the display output to any of the available resolutions (480p.720P.1080i) the picture is displayed - however the edges are cut off resulting in about 5 % of the picture being lost. this means that the taskbar on my mac is barely visible.Any ideas on why this is happening and how i can get it fixed?
2)This is more of a general question. A lot of the text that is displayed is blurry around the edges on all settings. Is this always the case for using TV's for secondary monitors?

I just noticed that all of my 16:9 resolutions have just disappeared from my available resolutions list in system preferences. They were there before. This is true for the resolutions of my 24" external monitor as well. What can I do? I need to have the 720p and 1080p resolutions available. But they're just gone. Every other resolution is there.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am getting a Macbook Pro where the native resolution will be 1440 x 900 (I think).
Some older games (that I like to still play) do not support wide screen resolutions. On my PC this isn't an issue because under the nvidia control panel there is an option to tell the resolution not to scale. You get a black border around your screen if you do this, but at least it doesn't stretch it which looks awful.
I've had my 2009 Mac mini for a while now, and one thing has bothered me and I've yet to find anything on Google for this. I have an Acer 22" X223w monitor and in OS X I can select a bunch of 16:10 resolutions including 1280x800. Using Boot Camp, in Windows I do not have 1280x800 as an option. Is there any particular reason why this resolution would be in OS X but not Windows? Is there a way to get 1280x800 to work in Windows?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 2008 Dual Quadcore 2.8 Mac Pro with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 video card installed that I use in a Pro Tools setup. I just bought a 25" LCD monitor with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. I want to run a 2nd setup to a 21" 1600 x 1200 monitor in the vocal booth with the same view.
Is this possible? So far, the main display defaults to the resolution of the smaller display.
My current set up involves my 13" MacBook Pro (1280x800 res screen) hooked up to my external 1920x1080 24" monitor. I love using desktop wallpapers, but am trying to figure out a unified resolution that would match both screen resolutions since I frequently unhook my MacBook Pro and use it without the main monitor attached. I also dual-boot with Windows 7 so I have a shared partition that I have the wallpapers in. I thought I could disconnect the MacBook Pro and have a separate wallpaper for it in OS X; however, since I use it with the lid closed, when I did that, the wallpaper I had on my main monitor was used on my MacBook Pro's screen. For those of you who have a similar set up, what resolution wallpaper do you use that works without adjustment on both 1080p and 1280x800 resolutions? 1900x1200?
