I recently purchased an Official Apple Mini-display port to VGA adpter for use with 2011 unibody MacBook Pro and Samsung Syncmaster 2232 BW external monitor. When plugging everything in and going into displays, I am presented with the attatched display, with no option for any 16:10 resolutions, everything non widescreen down from 1600 x 1200. I've tried SwitchResX with no avail, and don't know what else to try? This is my monitor and its Native settings are 1680 x 1050?

I only have 2 Display Resolutions left after upgrade to 10.7.4.... How do I get back the ones that disappeared?

iMac (24-inch), Mac OS X (10.4.7)
I just noticed that all of my 16:9 resolutions have just disappeared from my available resolutions list in system preferences. They were there before. This is true for the resolutions of my 24" external monitor as well. What can I do? I need to have the 720p and 1080p resolutions available. But they're just gone. Every other resolution is there.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am getting a Macbook Pro where the native resolution will be 1440 x 900 (I think).
Some older games (that I like to still play) do not support wide screen resolutions. On my PC this isn't an issue because under the nvidia control panel there is an option to tell the resolution not to scale. You get a black border around your screen if you do this, but at least it doesn't stretch it which looks awful.
I've had my 2009 Mac mini for a while now, and one thing has bothered me and I've yet to find anything on Google for this. I have an Acer 22" X223w monitor and in OS X I can select a bunch of 16:10 resolutions including 1280x800. Using Boot Camp, in Windows I do not have 1280x800 as an option. Is there any particular reason why this resolution would be in OS X but not Windows? Is there a way to get 1280x800 to work in Windows?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 2008 Dual Quadcore 2.8 Mac Pro with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 video card installed that I use in a Pro Tools setup. I just bought a 25" LCD monitor with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. I want to run a 2nd setup to a 21" 1600 x 1200 monitor in the vocal booth with the same view.
Is this possible? So far, the main display defaults to the resolution of the smaller display.
My current set up involves my 13" MacBook Pro (1280x800 res screen) hooked up to my external 1920x1080 24" monitor. I love using desktop wallpapers, but am trying to figure out a unified resolution that would match both screen resolutions since I frequently unhook my MacBook Pro and use it without the main monitor attached. I also dual-boot with Windows 7 so I have a shared partition that I have the wallpapers in. I thought I could disconnect the MacBook Pro and have a separate wallpaper for it in OS X; however, since I use it with the lid closed, when I did that, the wallpaper I had on my main monitor was used on my MacBook Pro's screen. For those of you who have a similar set up, what resolution wallpaper do you use that works without adjustment on both 1080p and 1280x800 resolutions? 1900x1200?
View 2 Replies View RelatedBy that I mean, are there three resolutions for the 24" LED ACD that are not blurry, or will every resolution other than 1920 by 1200 look bad? I was hoping to run it at 1280 by 800 to increase the font size and help my utterly horrible eyes.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know that you'd need at least 2 graphics cards to run the 3 monitors. Is there a way to play games using all 3 monitors (if the game supports it). I know that with Windows, you would just use software supplied with the video card and make the computer "think" that it's 1 big display. With OS X, is there any way I can play games at triple monitor resolutions? I am also open to Bootcamp ideas, but then don't you have the same problem again because you have multiple video cards instead of just one?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just bought a 24" ACD, and I love it. However, because my MacBook Pro is only 1440x900 resolution, if I resize anything it'll go out of proportion on my MacBook Pro screen.
Ideally, if there was such a program, I'd love to be able to have my windows set a size and position for 1900x1200 resolution, and for them to have a different size and revert to that when I use my MacBook Pro's 1440x900 display.
Does that make sense? I just don't think I can be bothered having to resize Safari, drag any windows that were over on the right hand side of the 24" display back over on my MacBook Pro display just to see them when I unplug the 24".
I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to make an application that does something like that - just take note of the window positions and sizes for both resolutions and switch between them when the resolution is changed.
i have the computer in my sig. i am a graphic design student and will be using this for that. can my computer handle 1920x1200. will it be laggy at such resolutions? and does anyone have any experience with this monitor or suggestions for other good ones which are around 350.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I tried watching a movie I bought from iTunes on my classic last night just for kicks, when I realized it didn't fit on the screen. Why? Because the resolution, of a movie purchased on iTunes, was completely wack--853x354. Looking at my other fine iTunes purchases, these are the resolutions, all over the board: 21--853 x 354

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook Pro 13" purchased in 2009, and I'd like to be able to use it as my main computer, which would mean plugging it into my monitors. I currently have two DVI monitors, of different sizes and resolutions (one 24" running at 1920x1080 and one 19" running at 1440x900). Is there any way to use both of these with my MacBook Pro?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis question might be a bit premature, however, given the 11.6 resolution, and Office 2011 system requirements (res req. is: 1280 x 800), do you think Office 2011 will install and run on the 11.6 Air?

Apple Mini Display Port does NOT work at resolutions over 1600X1200 on NON Apple Cinema Displays.
That means if you own any other brand of monitor such as NEC, Lacie, etc. you will NOT get native resolution on your 24 inch monitor as it is stuck at a maximum resolution of 1600X1200.
This story was mentioned on "Macbreak Weekly" show 4-14-2009. I have since checked with a few people and it would indeed seem to be true at this point.
I REALLY hope a solution from Apple comes soon and this is not some new policy of theirs. If so, it may be the last Mac Pro I will or can ever own. The reason is I do a lot of 3D work with C4D, Vue, Modo and Photoshop CS4 so I MUST have a monitor like the high-end ones from Lacie that have 100% color gamut and Adobe RGB. I can NOT be tied down to an Apple Cinema display due to that work. At this time, it seems this means I would only get 1600X1200 resolution on that 24 inch monitor.
I am HIGHLY concerned by this. Has anyone else confirmed this too and if so what the heck is Apple thinking or better still going to do about it? I LOVE my Mac Pro but if they start forcing Apple displays on us then I won't be buying another Mac, it's just that simple.
I've previously owned a 12" iBook G4 1.07GHz, and had a resolution of 1024 X 768 on my 17" DELL P780 display. Now I have a 1.33GHz G4 iBook. Same size. Wouldn't go past 800 X 600, I tried restarting, Display Preferences, EVERYTHING.

My monitors are a 19" 1440x900 one one the left and a 1920x1080 one on the right. I have the 1920x1080 through the Mini DP connection and it displays a perfect 1080p image. My problem is that the 1440x900 resolution does not show within the display options, although other resolutions do.

I just installed "SwitchResX" (stupidly - IMPOSSIBLE to get rid of! ) and now two of the default eMac screen resolutions are missing in:

Please someone, tell me how to rid myself of this crappy software, and also how to get back my default resolutions in SysPrefs - I am losing my mind here!.
I am running a Intel Imac 2008 clean install SL then Lion upgrade, followed by Lion Server install.I have multiple home macs, and intnded the server as a way to monitor and restrict kids internet use.In short, it has changes/screwed up multiple programs, and complicated home sharing issues considerably. Mail on the server machine has permission problems (cannot send mail, unable to sign), Spotlight in mail is non-functioning, finder spotlight searches are inconsistent, etc.I want to revert to plain old Lion.
I have done disk utility/verify disk and verified/repaired permissions, and have 'fiddled' (i'm not an expert) in the keychain/certificates areas, but I think the best solution is a clean install of Lion. When I backup to TIme Machine, is there a way to pull a 'Lion' version of my disk image back, and just not upgrade to Server? I understand I can disable Server and turn off applications in Server, but it doesn't fix my buggy machine. My options are to back up my 250GB of music, 100GB of photos, 100GB of movies, etc on to external drives, and clean install and then reimport everything, but even that will probably mean I cant reinstall my single user licesnse of MS office, VMware fusion, etc that I didn't buy on the App store.

I inadvertantly deleted a user that has some needed information. I did not elect to to create a compressed version of the user (wish I had) but I also didn't tell it to delete the user immediately. I selected "don't change the home folder" when deleting the user. I know where the user home folder is but I cannot access it. I am also nearly certain that the data is still intact because the Hard drive is far too full to be explained by my current user data. Â

Following Apples instructions on backing up the mail data and restoring as well as what I have so far found on the various forums has allowed me to move 99% of my mail to my new computer pretty much spot on except for one thing - the outgoing SMTP server list. Is there somewhere else I need to be looking for that information?Â
I have quite a few email accounts and with that comes quite a few outbound SMTP servers, much to my dismay I discovered that all of that information did not restore when I put the mail data all back into place. Now I assumed that perhaps it was in my keychain, but that would just be the passwords for the servers and not the list itself and the attachment of the various mail accounts to their respective SMTP servers, right?Â
So, my question is two-fold: one, is there a way to get that list back and have it attached to my 20+ email accounts and if I can do that then two, where in the keychain do I look in order to also get all those passwords back as well? It's not the end of the world, but just a big pain the butt.Â
On a side note, but related, I've also noticed that about 1/3rd of the email accounts I restored just won't log in and get mail, they just "spin" and bomb out, generally saying the password is bad even though I've put it in correctly numerous times (my mobile me account is one that comes to mind). Is this a known side effect of restoring? My only solution so far has been to delete those accounts and re-create them.Â
