Windows On Mac :: Change Screen Scale - Can't Game On Widescreen?
Jan 2, 2010
Since I am a very hardcore gamer, I need to be able to travel to LANs with something light so i gave the a try, WOW this little thing can do a lot. I'm only having one tiny bit problem, I don't know how to play my games on 4:3(blackbars)and i CAN NOT game on widescreen(16:9 16:10) because its soo weird and I have the late 08 version with ATI 2600 XT. My question is how do i change the screen scaling on windows.

I'm planning on getting a cheap 12" powerbook off eBay. The only thing that's holding me back is that it's not a widescreen lcd. I want to buy an external monitor anyways, but I want a widescreen external monitor. Is there any way to set the resolution on the powerbook to a widscreen one?

I recently upgraded to a Macbook Pro 15" with a mini displayport, and I decided I would share my LCD monitor with my windows box. The desktop box is connected with DVI and I have connected my Macbook through an HDMI adaptor from Moshi. Everything works very well, and I'm pleased with the quality of the output, but I'm having trouble with a screen flicker in full screen games.
When I select full 1080p (1900x1080) in any full screen game, the screen "shudders." It does not occur on the OS X desktop, and I can only explain it as a shudder. Lines and text shift perceptively left and right, and the game is unplayable. I have experienced this problem in Starcraft 2, World of Warcraft, and Half Life: Episode 2 so far.
Could the problem be with my monitor and the way it handles an HDMI signal? The Macbook is flawless otherwise, with no other issues of any kind. The "shudder" only occurs during full screen games set to 1900x1080. Lower resolutions are not effected and work fine...
I'm stumped.
Edit: I should add that I have no other 1080p capable devices to test the output with.

I was wondering if there was a short key to press when your in a full screen such as a game. For example when I play Cod4, I often get messages on MSN or Skype and I need to physically exit my game to see or wait and hope the person is online when I get back.

Recently I bought Europa Universalis III for Windows, to play on my MacBook. I have partitioned my hard drive for Windows XP. My specs are: 2,4 GHz, 2GB RAM, Intel GMA X3100 graphics card.
The problem is that when the intro has started, it is choppy. About halfway in the intro it just crashes out to desktop. I am way above game requirements, so why does the game not start properly?
Or more generally, do the requirements change on the PC version, compared to the Mac version?

Can someone recommend me a good controller to use in bootcamp that is known to 100% work w/ bootcamp and all recent games? Looking to spend $20-$30, but I'll spend more if it insures quality. I have a fairly old logitech dual action controller and apparently it is no longer compatible with any new games.

I have installed Windows 7 on my Mac Pro using Bootcamp and I am pretty impressed with Windows 7. Anyway these is an issue, when I play a game on Windows it crashes the machine, the screen goes blank (I have a Dell monitor and it powers down) and I have to restart the machine. The audio crashes (if I am in a racing game the engine note stays constant).

How do I minimize a full screen app or game? For example, if I were in a game, that takes up the entire screen, how do I get back to the desktop without exiting the game? Kind of like on Windows, when you open the Start menu while in a game, it brings you back to the desktop.

I'm looking at a widescreen plasma display, and it's native resolution is 1024x768. What I am wondering is, since it is widescreen, if the image will come out looking squashed from my computer. (A PowerMac G4 through VGA.)

So why is Widescreen better than the "old" 4:3 aspect ratio? I haven't seen a website/document where content is arranged 16:9, is this seriously JUST for movies? I just started using my old Thinkpad t60 again, and its 15" whcih feels allot bigger than my 15.4" MacBook Pro. who exactly needs widescreen andy why are they still measure monitors in inch wouldn't it make more sense to do a Pixel/cm^2 ?? plain cm^2 would be better as well

I've recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and decided to use boot camp to reinstall XP on a secondary partition. The problem I'm having is with getting some programs notably Trillian and Steam to keep their connection. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I am in university halls of residence so I have had to set up some port forwarding to get Steam to connect at all but it's always tantalisingly out of reach.
Steam for example sometimes loads fine but then won't load a game it brings up the 'Game is unavailable' error. Sometimes I can get into team fortress 2 but can't locate any servers, sometimes I can get a server list to populate but cant load the game. Sometimes it doesn't even load Steam at all and fails on the updating step. Trillian has similar problems, sometimes dropping the connection and sometimes running perfectly fine. At first I though this was a firewall issue due to the ports but after I managed to get each step to work at different times, just never together, I began to doubt that.

I've got a spare Mac I'm setting up in the living room as an HTPC (Plex is VERY cool, BTW). But I can't figure out how to scale everything really big so it's visible 10 feet away. I've got 128 px icons, check. 16 px is as big as the text will go. But all the menus are regular size. This was easy to do in Windows - can it be as easy in Snow Leopard?

In DVDSP3 (or 4 I believe), not all of the Apple menu templates can cope with being stretched to 16:9.
Some adjust themselves when you change the menu's aspect, other's don't expand to fill the screen.
I'm told you can adjust the template file directly (in Photoshop or whatever).

I currently have a macBook Pro with a 22" widescreen Smasung monitor. Is there anyway to make it so the computer "cuts off the sides" so it can make 4:3 ratio without stretching anything? I want to play an old game from 1999 on Windows XP that doesn't look good on widescreen.

I've tried on two different monitors, and the best I can do is widescreen that will fill about 75% of the screen. It leaves darkness all the way around the edges. On my 19" widescreen monitor that means I have about 2-3" around every edge that is wasted. Not only that, but on this particular monitor the display comes out with lots of "noise" that creates random dots of color all over the screen. I am using a mac dongle to an hdmi cable..

I recently purchased an Official Apple Mini-display port to VGA adpter for use with 2011 unibody MacBook Pro and Samsung Syncmaster 2232 BW external monitor. When plugging everything in and going into displays, I am presented with the attatched display, with no option for any 16:10 resolutions, everything non widescreen down from 1600 x 1200. I've tried SwitchResX with no avail, and don't know what else to try? This is my monitor and its Native settings are 1680 x 1050?
