OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Create Group From Message?
Mar 29, 2012
I'm using Mail 4.5 and have a group of people I'll need to email regularly, most of whom aren't in my Address Book. Is there a simple way I can create a group with these contacts in it from their addresses on the last email I sent them? I don't want to enter them all into my address book inidividually.Â
I had a class of 25 students email me from their mobile phones all using the same subject. Now I'd like to create a mailing list / group so that I can easly contact all of them if need be. I tried creating a new group and dragging all of the emails into it to no avail. I also tried right clicking and checking the menus to see if there were any options which there weren't.Â
I'd be open to using automator or something similar if it worked.Â
How do you address an email to a group with iCloud? I used to just type in the name of the group and all the addresses filled in. Since I've switched to iCloud it doesn't recognize the group name. If I select +, then the the group name I'm still asked to select individual recipients.
I have a group of designers that are connected to X Server running Snow Leopard. I have placed them in a group, "MarComm" I have granted everyone full read/write access. ( I can trust them all) I have tried to propagate these permissions..I saved the changes and restarted server. For some reason there are 2 sets of permissions.
1) full access (desired configuration)
2) "custom" access Â
This "custom" access does erratic things..for ex:Â
Allows the designer to pull off a job folder containing 12 items. He has permission to use 8 items, but not the remaining 4.Â
Perhaps I need a step by step tutorial on how to create a proper "group" and to propagate permissions. I understand that the ACL should take precedence over the POSIX. I am not well-versed in using the terminal, but I am a careful person, and willing to try it.Â
I'm running OS X Server 10.6.8 and I created a new group in Workgroup Manager and I'd like to share a group folder for that group. I created the share and when I go to set the path for the group folder, Workgroup Manager keeps sticking the actual name of the group onto the end of the folder name I'm using. I have an example below since I know it is probably hard to understand what I'm trying to describe. On the group shared tab in Workgroup Manager, it asks for a Path name. My group name is Test and the folder I want to appear on the dock for this group is called Help. For the Path name I enter Help, since that is the name of the folder I want to appear. When I save the changes and go back to look at the information I put in, the Path now says Help/Test and when I log in, I have a question mark on my dock instead of the Help folder. This used to work in 10.4 without any problems. Now 10.5 & 10.6 want to call the group shared folder whatever the name of the actual group is.
How do I set up a group in my contacts for a large group that I use often, and then how to I use it. I tried setting up a group with everyone in the group, but then I tried typing in the name of the group but it will not work. I want to click on the group and have all the group email people drop into the message, and avoid clicking on each group member..
imagine having an address book with several thousand entries. Imagine you have to send an announcement for a meeting to a group of about two hundred people roughly once a month. That group evolves: sometimes people drop out, sometimes new people join. The way I currently handle this is that I search in my "Sent" history for past instances of this email, then copy and paste the email addresses into a new message body, then go through my Inbox to search for requests from new people to be added and add them to the recipient list, then search my Inbox for people who want to be removed and take their emails out of the copied-pasted recipient list from last month, then finally get to write the new email body and send it out. Takes about 15 minutes of my time each time I do it just to get the email ready, about a minute to write the body.
So I thought it's time to create a group that I can over time subtract and add to, but is there a simpler way to do this than go through my several thousand addresses long address book and find the addresses of folks that have been recipients in the past (which would roughly take me an hour to do)? Wouldn't it be logical for Mail to simply allow me to establish a new group, than drag and drop the email addresses from past recipient lists into that group (which would take roughly 5 seconds)?
I'm in college and get a lot of emails from a lot of different groups and I often have reason to save them as a group in address book, but I usually stop once I realize that I need to add each of the people to my address book one by one, and then add them all to a group as I go.
Is there a way to streamline this? In an ideal world I would like to be able to create a new group in address book and just copy/click and drag all the address from the email to the group. But, like I said before the biggest issue right now is having to add each person to address book one at a time, simplifying that process alone would be a huge help. Any suggestions, is what I'm thinking of even possible?
I would like to create a mailing list that I can send out to a group of people using mail, I would like to store there contact information under a group called 'mailing list' but I do not want the contacts to appear in my main address book. Is there an app or a way to use mail so i can email the group but not have their contact information in my address book?
How do I create a mailing list (group) of colleagues to whom I send a common email every week? I've tried Help topics in Mail and on th apple site, to no avail.
I have an old macbook pro with damaged dvd drive. Yesterday when I tried to reinstall my mac osx snow leopard, my operation system was damaged and it cannot boot anymore. Now I have an installation dvd of mac osx and a pc. I tried to make a bootable usb drive from from my dvd but I cant.
Is it possible to create a calculator automation? I have to do this same simple equation many times in the day and would love if there was an automation to make things faster.
Once or twice recently I have had the 'Bad gateway' message.  It's only been on the screen when in Apple Community pages.  Prior to these events I have never before met this message.Â
I am running the latest Snow leopard using an imac 10.6.8. I am looking to upgrade to Lion or possible Mountain Lion if I can wait a few months, but I would really like to perform a clean install so that I can start a fresh.Â

I am trying to create a workflow that will monitor a webpage and send me email if the page contains a certain keyword. I got it working, I get email; the email contains the keyword, or is an empty message when the keyword is missing.I would rather not get these empty messages is possible. Until I figure this out, I may send these message at some gmail address and create a fiter there to forward only message with that keyword. Not elegant but should work. Anyway, long term I want a more elegant solution. Here is what I have in Automator:
1) Get Specific ULRs
2) Get Text from Webpage
3) Filter Paragraphs (and here is where I check whether the keyword shows up or not)
4) New mail message (which contains they keyword from #3, or is empty)
5) Send outgoing messages.
As I said, the workflow always works, and will send a message with that keyword, or an empty message. How do I make the workflow send email ONLY if they keyword is detected? There is not IF in Automator as far as I can see. This is the first time I try to do something in Automator so maybe I am missing something.
How to create a new folder on a NAS disk with the autorisation drwxrwxr-x When i create a folder on my Network Disk with my MacBook Pro under OSX 10.6, the autorisation is:drwx--S---3 Yvnjewab 70 Tue Jun 5 09:55:17 2012 Exercices. But when i do the same from my Windows XP computer i have what i want:drwxrwxr-x5 Yvnjewab67 Wed Sep 14 16:36:13 2011 Parerasse Maison.

OK so did you type the title of your e-mail or any other unique text that relates to the mail here? Next you need to select 'All Mail' in the search tab. Next add a Folder colum to your search results and see if it shows up there.Â
if you now delete the found mails they will appear again in the deleted mail folder. from there you can delete them again etc. Did you do this and they are gone? And you are on a POP account? Â

I have Lion 10.7.4 and Time Machine does not connect with ethernet disk due to 'failure required AFP'. A problem I did not have with 10.6.8. Apple, what did you do and how can I fix this.
I'd like to create a bootable Snow Leopard Flash Drive, after upgrading to Lion. I have multiple Macs with some expensive legacy software and an Apple USB modem (32 bit) I use out in rural areas. I'm assuming this will be a viable solution
I'm installing a new HD in my MBP and realise that I don't have my original dvd's to hand. I've created a time machine back up of the machine, but I can't boot from that can I?Â
I have Microsoft Messenger for Mac 7 and when I send an instant message to someone offline I always have....the following message could not be delivered. This happens when they send me an instant message when I am offline. When both online everything works fine. They are using a PC... I am wondering what the problem is and how to fix it.
