What I would like to do is to be able to work on my Macpro on a document and be able to see the document in my iMac without having to copy, or connect to the other Mac. How do I do that? I would like to see the same folders in both. I know that that should be possible, shouldn't it?Â

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter updates on my iMac OS X 10.6.8 .mov files shot with the JVC HD200 will no longer play! Everything was fine before the updates. I keep getting the error message: invalid public movie atom. I was told it may have been from the iTunes update so I deleted iTunes and both versions of quicktime that I have and reinstalled earlier versions. Still no luck.

I use mozilla firefox and when I click on a pdf or word file and click open instead of save file the iMac automatically saves to the desktop. How can I change this? When I click on open I don't want it to save the file.
View 7 Replies View RelatedFor some reason on my i7 iMac I've lost the ability to play audio from Mini Displayport devices like my MacBook Pro/PS3/360 etc when they're connected. It was working up till a few days ago. Regular sound from the iMac works great.
I did a fresh install on an external drive of SL 10.6.2, and audio then works fine over Displayport IN. So, clearly some files changed on 10.6.4/10.6.5, and I'm trying to find out what those files are. I'd rather not have to reinstall my OS for this seemingly minor issue...!
My settings do not allow for sharing of my iMac or its folders and files. Yet, another person's Shared Folder is appearing on my iMac and I cannot remove it. How do I remove it and did it get there by this person hacking in?

At first, I tried to upgrade and the upgrade failed to the point of rendering the system useless. I then decided to reformat the drive using disk utility and try a clean install. I then got this error and I'm stuck and have no clue what to do now: "The installer can't extract files from the package for BaseSystem. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." I have never encountered anything like this before.

Why does my mac stop downloading files, copying to clipboard, saving files to desktop, etc?
iMac g5 1.9 ghz 17" running 10.5.8. Had a hard drive crash and bought a new one. Loaded new OS leapord. Everything works fine at first, but after the computer has been on for a while, it will stop downlading files, disk verify doesn't work. I can't copy and paste stuff. It seems as if the hard drive is full, but I have only used 32GB of 300GB.
When I restart, it works again, then slowly not. Is it an overheating issue? How do I know if my fan is running? Is it a bad hard drive I put in it? Bought it new with three year waranty.
I am trying to save reworked raw and psd files as jpegs into a seagate hd and I'm getting an error message that reads no permission or authnorization to save. The hd was used on my pc and i need to use it between my pc at work and my mac at home.What can i do to use one hard drive with the two machines?

Jpg files were produced on PowerBookG4 with Tiger and saved on a Freecom 1TB disk, connected over FireWire. (This disk probably is not the issue (90% sure)).Updated to Leopard 10.5.8 by an Apple support center (since no disks available to buy). PowerBookG4 will not any longer read the jpg files correctly.They get corrupted and may have horizontal stripes, or fields.These fields may be black.The same files read ok on an old iBook with Tiger, as well as a newer machine with Snow Lion, when Freecom is connected to these machinesImporting new jpg files to the PowerBookG4/Leopard also display corrupted Have tried to (but did not help)rescale a picture with Graphic Converter on a friend's Snow Lion machine, and saved to this disk (new image)connect the Freecom disk to the old iBook/Tiger and shared it out, then moved files across home network into the PowerBook. Have not tried to (should I?)remove the resource fork. Â

I was trying to delete one file , so i dragged to trash, then all of a sudden I realize my entire Drobo (3TB Huge) was highlighted and deleting to my trash! So now I have a trash folder full all my Drobo's content and I can't figure out how to get it all back to "put back"! I'm afraid that I am going to inadvertently empty trash and lose my entire Drobo's contents! I need to figure out how to undo or put back ... come on Apple. Why'd you make this so difficult?

Even when they are directly connected with ethernet cable, I can see the imac but not connect with it. I can connect to the macbook from the imac, but not vice-versa. My network is ethernet through linksys WRT610 router. Repeated attempts to connect from the macbook result in "connection failed" message and "imac may not exist or is not available."

-a legitimate, family pack DVD for Leopard
I want to:
-reformat the iMac and install Leopard on the iMac via Target Mode/firewire using the DVD drive on my MBP
However, when I try to boot the MBP from the Leopard DVD, nothing happens.
I know this is kind of a mess, but it's the only viable solution I have been able to come up with. I can't install Leopard on the iMac from the Leopard DVD because I can't see the screen (due to the huge crack on my iMac) and it does not show up on the extra monitor.
Is there a way to safely force the MBP to boot from the Leopard install DVD?
I wonder though, is it possible to watch .vob files on Front Row. Some of my early experiments allowed me to create these files, and I played them on Intervideo. Since I am switching or should I say have switched, I wonder do I have to rerip the DVDs to Video_TS folders or could I play my .vob files?
I simply cannot find the answer and if I find something related, the information uses the older Mac operating systems like Tiger and not leopard.
I am trying to view some ebooks @ netlibrary, but the files are .dll. I did a little research but couldn't find much. Everything I did find stated that that file type was Windows specific. The threads I Googled were pretty old though. Is there anyway I can open these files in Leopard?

There is a second set of files everytime which begin with ._ (dot underscore). They are some kind of false file but are confusing to new students. If they scroll down below these files they will find the real jpegs.Â

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn mail, i can only save to Downloads or a folder on the same level. It won't let me choose a subfolder or create a folder like i could before. Same thing when i try to save a file. When i'm using Adobe CS3 applications i swich to the adobe dialog boxes but this seems so stupid.
This is a HUGE time waster for me. I deal with a projects that involve a great quantity of files that need a lot of folder organization. Is this something to do with stacks? Am i being required to think differently?
I'm going to upgrade my CE MB() to 4GB RAM and a 500GB hard drive. How should I transfer my files and everything? Would I need to buy Leopard for the new hard drive? I wouldn't know how to get EVERYTHING onto my new 500GB.

I am trying the reverse commands but the Finder still shows files what are supposed to be hidden.I tried:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles NO
followed by a killall Finder and even reboot.
I would like to avoid a re-install. Who can confirm a working solution as some in this forum suggest that the above reverse commands are no longer effective on Leopard?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Leopard, and I can't get Windows file sharing to work. I followed the instructions, which seems simple enough, but it just doesn't work.
I went to the Sharing pane, turned File Sharing on, enabled SMB sharing via the Options button, and set up users with read/write access to the desired folders. I also set the firewall to be wide open. From my windows machine I can ping the Mac, but if I enter the IP address or the Mac computer name in the "Map Network Drive" window on the PC, it doesn't find the network path. And if I browse for servers to connect to, the Mac doesn't show up, and there is no WORKGROUP or other entries.
I can't open zip files. Archive utility flashes and disappears. Archive utility does not seem to be in the utility folder. Tried repairing permissions and verifying disk.
