Also, how difficult to change the name who owns the iMac as well as the password?

Could anyone here recommend an easy way to backup files, info, etc from a PC and then transfer them to a Mac? It's an 09 24" iMac if that makes any difference.
When I set up my new mac it offered me the ability to transfer my files from one computer to another. Silly me, I was tired, and chose not to do it at that time.
How do I get back to that screen? And, is it difficult? I have slightly more ability than basic but am not a guru. And I admit to not having done this in years, I normally just copy things on cd rom, but if there is a simple way, this would be great.
I really only want my photographs to transfer. It is easy to do my files.
I could I know download my pics from me.com but I think it would take forever as they are at full resolution.
I am trying to transfer files from my white Macbook to my new refurb 2.8 Imac. I am using firewire 6 pin to connect. Then using migration assistant, but transfer always freezes about 1/3 of the way. I've tried moving just my photos no apps but same thing happens. Only way to unfreeze is turn laptop off then I get improper device removal. Am I doing something wrong? Also wondering what is all this stuff in my document folder? 10,000 items, lots of pics, icons and html sheets. Any idea what all that is? Can it safely be deleted?
I just got the new i7 and wanted to use it as my main computer for my Iphone and a few other files. I orginally used a MacBook for backing up and syncing my iphone. Is there an easy way to to transfer all my files from the MacBook to the i7? I assume they both have bluetooth. Is that something that could work?
Ordered a refurbished 27" 3.06 iMac, coming from a PowerMac Dual 2.0 G5. What is the best and easiest way to transfer the files I need over, such as my iPhotos library and music files? Also, can I use my applications from my PowerMac like Photoshop, Quickbooks, and QuarkXpress or do I need Intel versions?
I have an old (bought in 2003) iMac flat panel, 1.25GHz PPCG4, with 768MB DDR SDRAM, with the Tiger 10.4.11 system on it. I want to buy a Macbook air or pro but I discovered that I cannot transfer files directly from Tiger to Lion. I cannot upgrade to Leopard neither (not enough space). I don't want to loose my photos or music or emails etc. What options do I have ?
Is there anything that would not be possible to save, whatever the option? I have another question about external hardware: I'm using a LaCie external DVD drive Super Write Master and an external hard disk (only 300GB) LaCie Little big disk, a few years old. Would they work with the new computer?

I have just purchased a new 21.5 iMac to replace a G3 iMac running 10.3.9. There is no Migration Assistant on the old Mac. I have attempted to figure out how to transfer the files from the G3 to my new Mac, but I can't figure it out. The new Mac says to insert the "Install Disc 1" into the old computer and to install "DVD or CD Sharing Setup" software. I can't find any such software on the only install DVD I received. (titled "Mac OS X Install DVD") (Nor on the accompanying "Software Install DVD.") Further, the new Mac says to open Migration Assistant on the old machine and follow instructions. (Hard to do when there is no Migration Assistant on that computer.) (I am attempting to transfer files via wireless network.) Any one know how to run Migration Assistant on an old iMac running Panter?
I have a black older Macbook that as of today, wont start up. Im getting the folder with the ? I wanted to connect my Macbook to my new IMac via Firewire and start the Macbook up holding down T to recover some important files, but the firewire connections are different. I noticed today when I was working on my laptop that the hard disk space was getting low, around 3gb left. The computer locked up while working, I went to restart and now its stuck. how to get files off the Macbook to transfer them over to my newer IMac?
I have a Windows 7 custom-built PC and I also have an old, first generation Intel iMac from 2006. The iMac was running only Windows XP. The reason for that was that the screen of the iMac got cracked. I connected another monitor using mini-DVI connector and installed XP on the thing while I still could see certain things behind the broken screen. The reason I chose Windows was because in the Windows Intel Graphics Configurator program I had the ability to disable the main iMac screen and use the attached display as the main one. I did not have such option in OS X. I could select the attached display as the main one but could not shut down the iMac screen.
Anyway, it has been a year since then. Today my Windows OS on the iMac became corrupted. But, of course.. I cannot see what the error message says during boot because the iMac screen is broken completely now. The attached display only turns on when fully booted into Windows. So, I cannot reinstall Windows.. I cannot do anything. There were some important files on the iMac which I want to recover. I have SATA to USB controller which I used before on my computers but, from what I understand, these iMacs have laptop hard drives with different connectors. Can someone please guide me to a specific controller which I could use to connect the iMac HD to my Windows PC and transfer the files? I would be very, very thankful. My iMac is a late 2006 17'' model with 150GB hard drive.
I have an iMac Intel Core2duo, 10.4.11 and I've just got a white macbook 10.6 which has a firewire slot. I have no idea how to transfer files from my iMac to the mb - can you help, please? I have not yet started the mb, in case I can use the setup assistant to migrate files. so I'd be glad if someone can tell me [a] HOW to transfer files, [b] HOW to transfer iPhoto, [c] HOW to transfer iTunes and if I need to buy a cable, then what to look for.
I have an IMAC and I am having problems transferring video files I download to my external hard drive. I had trouble playing the files at first because it was not readable with Quicktime. I downloaded VPN and it played with VPN. I don't want to save those files on my computer so I would like to transfer it to my external harddrive. When I try to drag it over, it won't let me drop it in. I am new to the MAC world. Is there a way to choose where it will save itself right before you download like there is on windows. I click on it and it does not prompt you, it just starts downloading.
I have a older iMac (purchased it in March 02) and I want to transfer all the files to my new MacBook. I have a wireless connection that I use to connect to the internet. Is there a way to do the transfer using wireless or do I need a firewire?
I'm looking for an app, preferably downloadable and free to transfer a few files FROM my iPod TO my iMac.iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, OS X 10.5.8, iTunes 10.
I have a 24" intel imac from 2 years ago and it has USB2 ports on the back right, well if I plug in a flash drive and take files from the drive to the computers they transfer at USB2 speeds. But when I go the other day and copy from the mac to the USB drive it's slow as hell. Like USB1 or worse speeds. It's not like that on my PC at work which has similar specs to the IMac.
I have a 24" iMac and it was running fine the other week and now I get this annoying error=36 whenever I try to transfer large files from desktop to my external drives. It goes about 1/4 way with the transfers then stops with the error=36 message. I've tried to reset the pram but it won't let me. It just keeps on restarting to the same gray screen with the single short beep tone over and over until I let go of the option, command, P & R buttons and restarts normally but does not reset the pram.
I would like to transfer my imac's HD to an external HD. However, my current imac has a bad logic board – so the HD needs to pulled out in order to get any data. I am getting a new imac, but I don't know that I want to pull it all onto the new computer..
I have an old Summer 2000 iMac DV SE running Tiger. Recently when I powered up the machine I saw the display flicker a bit then went dead. I also began to smell something burning from the rear ventilation ports. Now when I press the power button, it lights up for a brief moment then the burning smell returns.
Finding an effective way to transfer old VHS videos to my Mac with Yosemite so that I can burn them to DVDs. These are so important to me as they include videos of my three children from birth until the age of DVDs. There is NOTHING out there that I can find that will work. The "Debut" program available online for free does not clarify whether it will work with a Mac or with Yosemite.
Info: iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), Roxio VHS to DVD for Mac
