I want to have OpenOffice as the default program to open .doc, .xls and .ppt files, but when I try to set that by chosing the check box that confirms, "Make this program the default program for opening these files?" my choice doesn't "stick" for the next time I open these files. Is there another way to make OpenOffice the default program for these files, or does OfficeMac not play nicely to allow that?Â

I launched Mail as I ordinarily do. It opened up, but the header bar was grayed out. Finally I managed to open program via Message/Go To/ Inbox, but no messages appeared in any of my mailboxes (even though I had several still in there from today). I know iDisk has always been slow and flaky in OSX but this is just getting ridiculous.

I've been having a problem with Snow Leopard since I installed it, and it's been bugging me like mad, but I haven't been able to find a solution or anyone with a similar case anywhere. Today, however, I tried again, and I ran across this news article, which perfectly described my problem:

I'm doing technical support for mac users of our java application. One user's problem is that the app doesn't launch. At first, I thought his version of java is not updated but told me that it is updated based on the Software Update. Then I thought the problem's here is that the JRE's not turned on so I made him open the Java Preferences. But sadly, this doesn't open too.
