I am trying to edit the host file to point to saurik's server so I can downgrade my iPhone from 4.0 to 3.1.3 but when I edit it and then try to save it I get an error saying I don't have the permissions go to the file then get info and check the permissions.

So I've been having a lot of internet issues since clean installing leopard. My neighbor, who works for Verizon, came over to take a look and thought I was having some DNS issues. He edited the "host" file and now my internet connection seems even worse. I found instructions online on how to edit the host file, but could someone post what the host file is actually supposed to look like in Snow Leopard since I don't know what he changed? I still have a completely clean install of SL, no 3rd party apps yet.

Just put together a CV using Open Office, it's currently saved as a .odt. I'll be sending this out to a few companies and I'd like to know what the best file type is to select that will be readable by everyone? When I go to 'save as' I see a long list of options and I'm not sure which one to pick so that PC users can view.
Or can they load the .odt file just fine?
I try to open an Open Office spread sheet and it simply saves the file as another file with the .cpgz extension which does the same thing. This did not happen a couple weeks ago; I think my download for Apple updates may be the culprit. My OS X is now 10.7.3, I believe originally it was 10.7.2 but I could be wrong.
The original document is a zip archive but now "saves as" a .cpgz archive. I have tried the "Unarchiver", which I just downloaded, but it only creates another file with subfolders, none of which appear to have my original spread sheet. (To be honest, I never noticed this Open Office spread sheet file was a zip file until a few minutes ago when I tried to unsuccessfully open it).

I used Macthe Ripper to rip my sons chuggington dvd to my macbook pro, then i used handbrake to convert it, i managed to copy the converted file to my itunes library, but when i symc my iphone 3gs, it says it won't copy the file because it can't be played on my iphone.Several forums mention using the iphone/ipod touch preset when converting in Hnadbrake, now i may be a numpty, but i cant find this preset anywhere?! The closest thing i can see is an apple button/setting.when i selected apple and told it to play again, it said it would overwrite the prev converted verison. It took hours to convert the first time, if I do this, will it really work? Or will I waste another 3 hours?!

This weekend I purchased a new 13" MacBook Pro. In the process of transferring data from my old MacBook Pro to the new one I almost lost all of the data from my iPhone. In the process I realized that by default iTunes only keeps one instance of the backup data - the most recent one.To avoid such a near miss in the future and to add some healthy redundancy into my life, I would like to be able to keep at least one additional backup copy of my iPhone data. Elsewhere it has been suggested to periodically copy the backup folder to another location. This seems terribly inefficient. Is there a more Apple-like way to create and manage multiple backups of my iPhone and iPad data?

At the end of two very long days of copy editing my husband's book (and many frustrating setbacks in MS Word for Mac), I have finished and am now attempting to export 140 page word document to PDF. I am able to successfully export 137 pages and then I keep getting this error message:
"A footer of section 27 is set outside the printable area of the page. DO you want to continue?"
I've gotten this error before and typically I just click yes and get on with it, but what's happening is that it is saving pages 1-137 as one PDF file and then the last 3 pages as a separate file. During one attempt it even saved the last 3 pages as 3 separate files. I need this to be all one file in order to upload the book to [URL]
I tried this on both my laptop (Version 10.5.2) and my desktop (10.4.11) I am using Word 2004.
I also want to make sure that all my fonts and graphics are automatically embedded when I save to this type of PDF.

I just got a new mac computer and wanted to transfer my itunes library to the new computer. I do not have a firewire cable. So I thought I could just put the library on my 8gb sd card (my itunes library is 5.25 gb). I thought it might be faster if I zipped the library so I did-that took 10 minutes or so. But whenever I tried to move the zip file to the sd card I got an error message. So then I copied the zip file and tried to move the copy to the sd card. I still got the error message. So now what is happening is I am simply copying my itunes music folder directly to the sd card. It says it will take about 2 hours (my old computer is from 2003 so I think I have a slow usb port). So hopefully this will work. But why wouldn't it work with the .zip file?

The project originally came from 6.0.6 and I was happy to see that this kind of reversion was actually possible. Unfortunatly after doing a little work I started getting "general error" messages whenever I tried to save the project or render any transitions.
If I remeber correctly, I opened the XML and was asked to save a new project. I saved the project and started working. I dont remeber if any saves or rendering had worked in the new project before I got the error messages. Maybe none of them worked, I am not sure.
ive been trying to edit the SSH port in Services file but i get an error saying "You do not have appropriate access privileges". tried changing the permissions and give everyone read&write but no luck. tried "sudo open -t /etc/services" but still cant save the file.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 2006 Ibook with a G-4 processor. For some reason every time I save a document under a specific formatting, it will change it back to appleworks when I open it up. The document will then appear as untitled and I will be forced to re-format the document again before saving. Also, when I send a document through e-mail even before it has been changed to appleworks the person receiving will only be able to open it as an HTML or as a Google doc. Does anyone know how I may be able to fix this?

files and folders are mixed together. I usually always right click and select keep arranged by "kind" to get this arranged by kind. But the problem is every time i exit the folder it reverts back to being mixed. Is there ANY way to save these changes to always have my files arranged by kind?
