Applications :: Cannot Save Or Render In Final Cut General Error Message With No Number
Sep 27, 2009
I just opened a FC project in 6.0 from an XML file for the first time. The project originally came from 6.0.6 and I was happy to see that this kind of reversion was actually possible. Unfortunatly after doing a little work I started getting "general error" messages whenever I tried to save the project or render any transitions.
If I remeber correctly, I opened the XML and was asked to save a new project. I saved the project and started working. I dont remeber if any saves or rendering had worked in the new project before I got the error messages. Maybe none of them worked, I am not sure.
I am running Final Cut Pro 7 on a MacBook with a 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. I have used FCP to edit before using video from a camera that used mini DV tapes and that worked fine. I recently got the Flip Ultra HD, which records straight to MP4 with the following format: 1280x720, 30 FPS, H.264 video compression. I imported the files on my computer and then imported them into FCP. When I try to play them in the viewer I get a window that says: General Error. Then another window that says: out of memory. I have tried restarting both the computer and the program.
I wrongly assumed that when you go to system settings to select the scratch disks (root folder where all the audio and video render folders and files go, capture files, etc.) that Final Cut would save the folder locations within the FC project you are working in. Makes total sense, but for reasons I don't understand, FC does NOT save these folder locations and the result is that I have render files scattered all over the place on my hard drive and it is quite a mess! Fortunately, the project file remembers where it put the render files, so as long as you don't remove or rename any project folders, everything shows up rendered on the time line as it should. The problem is, if I'm working on several projects at once, I have to reset the scratch disks every time I reopen a project, otherwise the program will save it to the last scratch location selected and put all of the render files in another project's folder. I often forget to reset the scratch disks when I'm busy and now I have render files mixed up in various project folders.
Why can't you just set the scratch disks one time when you first set up the project and have the project always remember that location, instead of always having to reset them every time you reopen a project. I love Final Cut, but this is a product defect that should be addressed and corrected. If the project file can remember where it is putting all the render files, it should also be capable of remembering the scratch disk locations you originally selected when you first set up the project or better yet, save it to the project's root folder by default.
I have been using FCP for quite a while now and just recently when I was trying to exporting a SD movie I got the message, "Error: Out of Memory".
Thinking I maybe had to many programs open I restarted the computer. That didn't work, so I shut down again and reset the memory.
Since that didn't work either, I transferred the files to second compute, but got the same message. Finally tracking the problem down I removed the effect "Line Art" and was able to export.
But I would really like to have the effect on the clip, any ideas on what is going on here?
Ok when I render at all it never EVER works. It has worked a couple times but recently I do everything people suggest and it doesn't work. I've converted both into the same format so it'll work, I've restarted final cut pro, I've restarted the computer, I've repaired disk permissions, i've done render all. All worked at certain points but for the rest it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it?
I've been working on some making some video clips that are ipod commericals (to eventually do the whole thing on imovie) but after 4-5 videos being finished, I work on the next one and right in the middle of rendering, it just freezes and doesn't do anything else, or when I try to just export it it does that, but before it works fine. I tried removing a couple extra effects I aded, and it still does it.
I added a friend to my contact list and wanted to send him an imessage. I got the error this number is unregistered. How can I register his number so I can imessage him?
Writing your preferences to disk has failed. Your preferences may not have been saved. The permissions on ~/Library/Preferences may be wrong or your disk may be full.
I have read previous discussions on this (2011) and used disk utility to clear permissions, but cannot find any mail.plist in Library
I have just finished editing a video that I made and when I go to click to Export literally nothing happens and when I try to share to youtube an error message pops up. This isn't my first time as I have exported videos before.
When starting FCP X, it comes up with an error message that says, that it is unable to connect to my NAS-Server (located at home, not at work). First i thought this is because i have a project linking to some files on the NAS, but later i found out, that FCP X tries to connect to the media of Iphoto, which is located in my home network on a NAS even if there is no project containing any pictures of Iphoto.
The error message continuous to appear even if i click OK. What to do?
When I am trying to import images into Aperture 3.4.5. I get the message:
- You don’t have permission to save the file “nilpe” in the folder “Användare”.
- To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info.
To my knowledge there is no account nilpe on this computer, the account name I use is different.Somehow Aperture has mixed up permissions.(Have run the "Repair Disk Permissions" in Disk Utility.app and restarted, without any effect)(Mac Pro with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63), start up disc is a SSD and the Aperture Library is on another disk.I have previously imported thousands of images into Aperture, I am at a loss as to why this has suddenly appeared.
So every time I got to edit my movie in FCP i lose 3 GBS of space... I have multiple render files for my project. Do i only need one? Can I delete all of them and create a render file after that so I only have one. Does it auto create render files? Does it delete stuff in the project if you delete it?
I am running Final Cut Pro 7 and I have a clip that already has RGB Balance filter and Key filter on it. I am adding Brightness Contrast or any of the other Gamma Correction type filters to the clip, It lets me adjust the filter but when I render it this filter is not included in the render. I have done some experimenting and it seems that the RGB balance is what is stopping this filter from being applied.
I have tried with all the possible filters that will let me adjust the levels on the image, I have tried taking the clip with the first two filters and nesting it then applying the new filter to the nested clip but nothing seems to work. This clip is too dark...
Running FCP X 10.1.2 ... I wanted to verify a few things with the community about media mgmt that the white paper really doesn't explain to well. My archiving procedure is as follows:
I import media to an Event to offload footage from camera/card. I then close FCP X, open the finder and open the library and "show package contents" and then pick the original media folder. I then copy that folder to another offsite drive I have dated by year -> folder.
Example: 2014 - Footage from Colorado. (I do this to always store my original media outside any project I'm working on for future reference. This is ok, correct? Is there a better way?)
Second, I learned the other day that if I want to archive/backup libraries or even clean up the library,it is good practice to remove all rendered/transcoded media files. It is pretty simple from the "file" menu to do this. Question, if I just removed the rendered media, how long does it take again before FCP X background tasks starts working / rendering media again? Do I stop this somehow so I have time to backup the library? I thought this process was automated after a few seconds?
I was wonder if Final cut pro x have the ability to show how much time is remaining in the rendering process...like premiere or final cut 7 use to, if I remember correctly...Same thing with Compressor 4.1.3
When using Final Cut Pro X (iMac mid 2011 model-version 10.1.3) to burn 1 hour movie onto DVD, it seems to render but when computer says 'Sharing to DVD successful' and yet DVD is blank, what's my next move? Burning hardware is working as I burned a project using iMovie afterwards. I filmed a funeral service and family get together afterwards but can't share it with family and friends...

I just downloaded Magnifique 2.1 for my Mac (Macbook, 13-inch, 2 gigs of RAM, Mac OS X 10.5). As soon as I open the application, I get an error message saying this:
Applescript Error System Events got an error: Some data was the wrong type. (-1703)
The downloadable theme gallery won't show as well. This same message appears if I try to search for any themes and appears every time I type a letter or two into the search bar in the application. Is there any way to fix this? I have tried re-installation but it doesn't work.
I've had my MBP since Oct of 2007. About 2 weeks ago it would not turn on so I had the logic board replaced. After I got it back it would randomly shut down, the only solution I could do is take out the battery and work at the lower clockspeed but it still shut down without warning, just less frequently. I thought it might be the power cord or the battery so I got those replaced but it is still happening. The first day I had the battery (yesterday) it worked fine, no random shutdowns, I calibrated the battery per apple instructions and today it worked great (during charge up and plugged in at full charge) for about 5 hours, then it shut down, I turned it back on and it shut down shortly after, I reset the SMC by taking out the battery and holding down the power button and putting it back in and it shut down again.
Then I tried to run the hardware test and it shut down again so now I am posting this out of frustration. I also reset the pram and it shut down again. Now it won't stay on for more than getting through the login screen. I don't have applecare but they replaced the logic board for no cost (which I don't fully understand), I'd rather not take it back but I will if you guys have no ideas. I looked up (with difficulty) the previous shutdown code: -2 (http://www.macwizard.com/errors.html) and it said it was a "General System Error (VBL Mgr, Queue) -2 vTypErr invalid queue element" but I have no idea what that means.
I've been getting this error since last night when I try to render: Error: Out of Memory. Last night, I also installed a new 500 GB Harddrive and upgraded from Os x 10.4.11 to the Newest Snow Leopard, with iLife and iWork. I've looked at my computer's activity monitor, and there doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary taking up all my memory. It could be possible I don't know what to look for too. I'm working on finishing an animation with a deadline, and without rendering.
So lately when I am rendering my projects, or exporting them via quicktime conversion, I keep getting an error. It states only "Error: Ran out of memory". I am editing HDV 1080 video. Now, I have 6GB of RAM. I have about 400GB left on my 1TB Media drive and around 200GB left on my main hard drive. Does anyone know why my mac pro is doing this? This is happening on final cut pro 7
I am trying to burn a 4.2 GB project in iDVD. My project is saved onto an external hard drive, and when I start it burning, I get an error message that says "Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets." It says I only have 825 MB available on my hard drive and 3.362 are needed for encoding, but I actually have 786 GB free! Any idea what could be causing this?
I use Adium 1.3.10 which normally could send message to offline user and my ex-girlfriend use Adium as well but I dont know which version. I sent really important message to my ex-girlfriend while she is offline and TWO HOURS later this message pop up to me.
"Message was not sent because the system is unavailable. This normally happens when the user is blocked or does not exist." But I did not block her and she does exist So I'm not sure she will receive this message or not. the strange thing that I worry is it was bounced TWO HOURS LATER AFTER I SENT IT,Has anyone experienced this case??? What I really am worry is the message will be sent to her or not?
This might be the weirdest software bug I've ever seen. It looks like maybe a programmer for Microsoft was having some fun. Here is what happens:
A spreadsheet that a coworker uses for purchase order requests has several cells in a column with a SUM field that calculates the number of units to purchase multiplied by the unit price (not sure why they use SUM for just a multiplication, but I don't know if that matters).
If you delete the contents of one of these cells and type in something else (or just type something else without deleting first), then exit the cell, an error message pops up that says, "You can't do that!!!!! So quit trying!!!" with options Cancel and Retry.
Retry doesn't do anything, Cancel clears what you put in the cell. Copying and pasting the cells into a different row creates the same issue.
I've attached several screen shots to show steps to reproduce: Picture 1 - column F has the suspicious cells Picture 2 - the calculation Picture 3 - after deleting the contents Picture 4 - enter some text, before exiting the cell Picture 5 - error message after exiting the cell
The only workaround was deleting the entire row and entering those calculations again. I have no idea what to make of this, and internet searches have come up empty.
I have an iMac running Snow Leopard. I did a clean install.
Afterwards, I tried to install the Applications Install DVD, it opend the DVD, after I select the icon, Ireceive an error message that the install failed.
I have a Canon 780 installed which seemed to print fine for a while, but now when I try to print I get:Error Number : 306 A communication error has occurred. Make sure that the printer is plugged in, powered-on, and properly connected to your computer. Then try printing again. The printer is connected via a USB Hub, but plugging it directly into the USB Port doesn't seem to help either. I've also made sure I "woke up" the printer, plugged, replugged, etc.If I mess around plugging and unplugging, it eventually will work.
I have been using Toast since it first came out and I have really enjoyed the latest version as well. However about a month ago Toast 8 just quit launching. It just bounces in the dock then disappears. I tried the one on my backup drive and it does the same thing. I have a Powerbook G4 17" 1.67ngz with 1 GB RAM. I installed Toast 8 on my girlfriends IMAc 24" Intel and it still works perfectly. I've looked on the Interweb and found some similar complaints but now solutions.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times with no luck. I even tried an older version I have and it didn't work either. All the bundled applications that come with Toast 8 with the except of CD Spin Doctor work fine. When I try to launch CD Spin Doctor I get this error message: This application requires Toast 8 Titanium or later to run on your system. The application will now quit. I have Toast 8 Titanium right freaking here" it just won't load... no error message for it however.
