I have an iMac (Snow Leopard 10.6.2) with a HP Photosmart scanner/printer and have just scanned about a dozen documents. My problem is I can't find them. Where do they default save to and how do I change this default?

I made them too big, they are 20+ megs, and I know with JPEGs one can just "flatten" the file. Can that be done with scanned docs too? If so, how? Do I need a special app for that? I have Preview and iPhoto, plus the MS Office package for the Mac.

I'm trying to send some scanned documents via mail. The PDF file is 19 MB. Its a yahoo based account that allows a maximum file size of 25MB. I can send it through the webmail client wheni log into yahoo, but i cant send anything larger then about 12MB through mail.

Today, I was attempting to copy my documents folder onto my external hard-drive. I had Finder open and tried to move the icon representing documents (on the lower left sidebar) to the icon representing my hard-drive (upper left sidebar). The documents folder disappeared off of the left sidebar, but was not moved onto the drive.
I know the folder has not been deleted, as I am still able to open documents from it in word. However, I can't find the folder, and I'd like to return it to the sidebar. I have tried going Finder>Preferences>Sidebar, but there is no option to add the documents folder. How can I get it back?

View 13 Replies View RelatedSo i got this hair-brained idea the other day. I wanted to make a media server (mac mini + external drives shared out to my other machines. Mac mini hooked up to tv.) Then i thought...well i might as well use it as my data server as well. So...id like to find a program (free is good, but cheap is ok =P ) that i can use a scanner, scan in receipts, documents, taxes, etc... and store them so i can go paperless. The app must have a folder structure so i can organize them by year/month/item. I could do this manually, but i figure an app would be more useful
Any mac apps available? I'm a recent switcher (3 months ago) so i havent been able to find anything yet with my searches.
Tonight, not sure what I did, but I lost my blue download and documents folder. They are no longer on the dock of my Imac 27.
How do I get them back? I have never used Time Capsule.
Whenever I'm in a folder which has pdf documents inside and a search a word in the search field in the finder the results are a total mess. It sometimes finds the words inside the pdfs and sometimes it doesn't. What is worse is that whenever I open a pdf with preview, it almost NEVER finds the word I'm looking. It just shows the loading sign and never return results.

View 22 Replies View RelatedI have a lot of PDF and other files in general that I would like to keep sorted by date. Normally in finder options I would sort them by date but the problem is that the bulk of them were added to my laptop by scanning, e mail hard drives so the creation dates of these files is not necessarily the same date as these statements. I tried naming theses files by date e.g. 10/02/12 etc but obviously this did not work as numbers are recognised in sequence and not by calender.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhenever I scan an image (my scanner is an HP Photosmart C4480) and save it as a PNG, it scans and saves fine. However, when I open the file in Preview, it flashes up a low-quality version of the image for a split second, and then just turns black. Sometimes when zooming I can get the low-quality image to appear again, but then it just turns black again.

I have obviously put in scanner so they tessellate and fit neatly; only I keep coming across some that are in-correct in their dates (I've arranged the folders by months). I scan the mentioned receipt/receipts then I want to move them so they fit into a page with space and tessellate with the others (wasteful and not an option to have pages with only one receipt). Already tried using the 'touch up object tool' to try to move it; which looks like will work but image is behind/ disappears. It has gotta be possible to move things onto a page, does not have capabilities/ made for purpose of photoshop but only want to move something onto a page-not unreasonable request .

Where does the HP Scan software stores the scanned images? I know there's an option to save the images to desktop after scan, but before I save it to desktop where does it store the files? It needs to be somewhere because I see the image in the app.

I finally read that if I transferred them into iPhoto they would automatically go into jpg form. I went to use them for the website I am making and they still can't be transferred so I am assuming that they are still in tif format.
