OS X :: Empty Trash Doesn't Make Trash Sound Anymore In SL?
Sep 15, 2009My 09 Mac Pro trash won't make the normal trash sound when emptying the trash in SL. Does anyone know if this is for all SL users or how I can turn it back on? I like hearing the sound and don't like the fact that I have a glitch if this is one.

MacBook :: Not Hearing The Noise When I Empty Trash?
Apr 14, 2010This may sound dumb, but my laptop is no longer making the noises when I drag items into the trash, empty the trash, etc. I can hear my iTunes and videos. I'm not sure what's going on? All the options are checked in "Sounds," so I'm pretty sure that's not it. Anyone know how to get the sounds back? Or why they stopped in the first place?

Jan 14, 2009my macbook has been making a noise lately! the noise it makes is the same noise (sound) it makes when you remove a program off the dock! the "Swoosh" sound...! why does it make that noise!? it ussually makes it every 30 minutes! it never made that noise b4 it just started a few days ago! after i installed adobe photoshop cs4! (which i finnally got by mail! >) anywho at first i thought it was deleting something but nope nothing! then today i did check the trash bin and i found 2 folders both were named "backup" one was named backup the other backup#1 i opened up the folders and i just found a flash file! yes i do have adobe flash cs as well, but i hardly use it so i am not sure if i some how put a setting that makes something get deleted...! is this a flash software setting? or a mac. setting that i have on? if so how can i make it stop? im not even removing a thing from my dock! there it goes again it made that noise just now! aghhh! oh and if it is a flash problem then why does it make that dock noise shouldn't it make a trash bin noise....?

Could any of the owners of the new 2.93/3.06Ghz iMac comment on this issue? Do the new machines get really hot and make awful noise? Or are they pretty silent? The noise is a real dealbreaker for me.

Jan 21, 2010My Mac Pro started having issues about 2 weeks ago. The screen would go blue every now and again for about 3 seconds and then go back to normal. It kept doing this off and on.
Two days ago the Mac Pro started making a buzzing/humming sound, loud enough to hear in the other room.
I shut it down and tried to fire it back up and it began making a clicking noise, then the humming came back. The screen froze at the grey screen and did not show the white loading wheel.
I've swapped out the drives and still the same.
The Mac is about 2.5 yrs old and I use it for video editing (FCP) and photo editing (Adobe CS3). I've never had any issues until now.
OS X :: Drive Make Noise And Low USB Transfer Speeds
Jan 22, 2010I have some questions to ask about my MacBook Pro (15" 2.66ghz mid09). It's running under 10.6.2 fully updated.
1) My optical drive sometimes keeps making this noise every 10sec even without a disc in it, is it normal?
2) My hard drive sometimes makes this noise even when there is no disk activity (I checked with Activity Monitor.app), again is this normal? I remember hearing the same noise on my old PC when there was some heavy disk activity; but on my Mac it does it for no reason.
3) Can you recommend me a fan control software for Windows 7? Having to boot on OS X, set the fans at 5000rpm and reboot every time I want to do some gaming is pretty tiring
4) I was making a little video with iMovie today, I only added a photo and a mp3 file but suddenly my computer started getting slow, that's when I noticed it was actually taking 2.20Gb of memory.
5) Can you recommend me something that would give me the same mouse acceleration curve as in Windows? I tried SteerMouse, USB Overdrive, MouseFix and ControllerMate but none of them gave me a satisfying result. It makes me feel that my new Kone mouse is totally useless.
6) I have low transfer speeds to/from USB drives, around 5Mbytes/sec while my friend with his 2006 HP laptop could achieve around 20Mbytes/sec with the same USB drive. No, it's not funny.

Mac Pro :: SuperDrive Make Scrapping Noise When Burned Media Inserted
Feb 14, 2008I just got my shiny new mac today. I'm ecstatic, as you can imagine. Except the optical drive is being weird. When I insert some types of burned media (Sony, TDK) it makes horrible scraping noises (I think I even smelled something bad too) and doesn't read the disc. TDK and Sony are good brands. They work on everything else I've ever tried. So, I'm guessing this isn't normal?
I tried calling AppleCare but what do you know, they're 6am to 6pm, which is great. So while I wait I wanted to ask - is this going to be an easy "they give me a new drive and I put it in" type of deal, or am I going to have to be cutting some red tape? And can I do this at the apple store?

Mar 22, 2012Had since May/June last year i5 13" and only since I applied all updates few weeks ago it seems to be louder than it was before?
It sounds like a fan but isn't... obviously. Right hand side of track pad, and covering it, in fact just touching it dampens it to barely audible. Is that normal or has something gone a bit weird? A constant fan noise, which isn't the fan is now there permanently.

Apr 10, 2010I'd like to empty my trash, but it doesn't work anymore. The trash icon in my dock indicates that there are files in it, but when I click on it the Trash window appears, but the files don't show. The indicator at the bottom right just keeps on animating - it never stops, not even after several hours. furthermore, the "Empty Trash" option in the Finder menu is grayed out. The "Empty Trash" option in the trash icon's right-click menu is not grayed out. However, when I click it, a dialog appears for confirmation; I click on "Empty Trash" and nothing happens. When I list the files in my trash using the terminal (with the "ls" command), the files do show (and there is a considerable number of files). When I try to remove them, using the "rm" command, nothing happens; when I list the files again, they are still there. What must I do to get this mess fixed?

May 14, 2012I made a clean install of lion as i had a little bit of a problems after few years i was uning my iMac.. All of the issues were gone but know i got a new problem with the trash ..
Every time i delete something (i.e: a folder that i dont need any more) i requires a password.. Then instead of that folder to appear in the Trash (as it should be), it is automatically gone and do not appear in the trash! what is this but i am suspicious that is the password protection thing that is responsible for that!
MacBook Pro :: Disk Utility Doesn't Open, Trash Works Incorrectly?
Apr 5, 2012After updating to 10.7.3 I have noticed that Disk Utility no longer opens. It pops up into the utility bar for a few seconds, bobs up and down a couple of times, then disappears. The next time I click on Disk Utility I don't even get that much of a response. It just doesn't open. No error report, no pop ups saying that it can't be opened - Nada. I can't use disk utility AT ALL anymore. I've tried Zapping my PRAM, but that's about it.
The other thing I've noticed is that any time I put something into the Trash Bin it automatically tells me that it will delete the item - it doesn't sit in the trash bin like it used to until you manually delete it. The only time I can get it to behave normally is when I am using an external drive and I put something from the external drive into the trash bin.

Jan 7, 2010My friend gave me his old Apple cube G4 + 15" Cinema display in like 1000 pieces. Its completely teared apart. I tried a lot, but it doesn't work. The original IDE cable wasn't included, so I bought one for 2 cents. It should work or not? Maybe the powersupply. I'm not sure. I don't believe actually that the hardware itself, like the motherboard is broken. When everything is into place and I connect the cube to the powersupply it boots immediately. I don't have to do anything. Harddrive spins and the superdrive makes some noise as well. This repeats itself every 5 seconds. The screen is connected and gets power through DVI, but no display. Both the cube and display have touch enabled buttons to switch it on, but they do not respond (I guess).. Motherboard gives 2 light. DS1 is green, DS2 is red.

I've tried, staying plugged in>removing the battery> restarting>putting the battery back, and nothing. I've tried taking the battery out and back in without the cord and also, nothing.. so..
