MacBook Air :: Delete Apps From Interface / Cannot Drag Them To Trash Can

Aug 23, 2014

I've never really felt the need to delete apps from this interface, but there are a bunch showing up I do not recall installing. They are not listed in the Applications folder. I cannot drag them to the trash can, and no 'x' pops up in the corner when I get the icons wiggling. I found some command on some website for deleting things through terminal but I tried it and it did not work (some error about "too many options"). Again I repeat there is no 'x' on the app icons and there is no way to make it appear.

Software :: Drag & Drop Doesn't Work In Ubuntu?

Apr 22, 2008

I created a Ubuntu VM on my mac and installed the VMWare tool stuff. Now the mouseover thing and auto screen resizing works, but I can't copy and paste files into my VM...

Is this impossible with Linux or did something go wrong when installing it?

Also, visual performance is really poor, when I drag a window around it moves at a very poor framerate. In Windows XP this is also the case but not as badly, can something be done to improve either of these problems?

Intel Mac :: When Delete A Folder Requires A Password And It Doesn't Go In The Trash

May 14, 2012

I made a clean install of lion as i had a little bit of a problems after few years i was uning my iMac.. All of the issues were gone but know i got a new problem with the trash ..

Every time i delete something (i.e: a folder that i dont need any more) i requires a password.. Then instead of that folder to appear in the Trash (as it should be), it is automatically gone and do not appear in the trash! what is this but i am suspicious that is the password protection thing that is responsible for that!

OS X :: Trash Won't Empty - Doesn't Work Anymore

Apr 10, 2010

I'd like to empty my trash, but it doesn't work anymore. The trash icon in my dock indicates that there are files in it, but when I click on it the Trash window appears, but the files don't show. The indicator at the bottom right just keeps on animating - it never stops, not even after several hours. furthermore, the "Empty Trash" option in the Finder menu is grayed out. The "Empty Trash" option in the trash icon's right-click menu is not grayed out. However, when I click it, a dialog appears for confirmation; I click on "Empty Trash" and nothing happens. When I list the files in my trash using the terminal (with the "ls" command), the files do show (and there is a considerable number of files). When I try to remove them, using the "rm" command, nothing happens; when I list the files again, they are still there. What must I do to get this mess fixed?

I just started using Autocad 2010 on this computer, and for some reason, the "delete" key doesn't delete anything when I press it. I tried to set "pickfirst" to 1 (checking the box of "noun/ verb"), but it doesn't help. Setting them both to <0> and <1> don't make a difference, both options don't "delete" the selected object.

Intel Mac :: Can't Just Drag To The Trash

May 23, 2012

Since reinstalling my Lion, the Trash has been strange. I can't just drag stuff there without getting a dialogue box telling me it will be deleted immediately. That requires me to click my agreement.  Same thing happens if I right-click my mouse and choose the Trash option.  So my Trash basket stays empty, and I go through a two-step process with every file or program I want to be rid of.

IMac :: Can't Delete Trash / Saying Don't Have Permission To Delete

Mar 6, 2009

I dual boot my iMac using Boot Camp and I'm having problems deleting a bunch of files in my Trash. A short history. I purchased a OWC external hard drive case and I've been going through my old hard drives which originally were used in my Windows XP computer. The drives were contaminated with Windows viruses and so I installed the drives one by one in the OWC case and proceeded to delete files and programs which I didn't need in each drive while in OS X and keeping the files I wanted to save in each respective drive. Now what I'm faced with is a Trash bin filled with Windows XP software (including Windows XP itself) which I cannot delete because OS X says I don't have permission to delete those files.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Secure Delete Trash

Jun 26, 2014

I have a late 2012 Macbook Pro version 10.9.3.

Attached to this are two external hard drives: Both are SeaGate, USB 3.0, 3TB, and are formatted to the ExFAT system.

I use these mainly for purposes associated with my job as an wedding video editor.

About a month ago, I received a few files from a client that they wanted to attach to their video and upon editing them I tried to delete the originals but was unable to as I got this message: "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items". However, all other trash that I put in there is deleted when I secure delete so I'm sure it's not a problem with the system but rather with those files.

I have researched the problem online and have found some suggested solutions:

1. That I need to change the permission on the file in order to delete it. When I checked the file information it reported that I was able to "Read and Write" as with every other file.

2. I attempted the following suggestion that I found on another forum: Advanced tip about deleting locked filesIf there are several locked files in the Trash, you can unlock them all at the same time at the command line. Follow these steps:Open Terminal. It's located in /Applications/Utilities.Type: chflags -R nouchg Note: Type one space (not pictured) after nouchg in the line above, so that it ends in "nouchg ". Do not press Return yet.Double-click the Trash icon in the Dock to reveal the contents of the Trash. If necessary, arrange the Finder window so that a portion of the Terminal window is still visible.Press the Command-A key combination to select all files in the Trash.Drag the files from the Trash to the Terminal window. Note: This automatically enters the pathname for each file. This eliminates the need to individually empty multiple Trash directories, particularly when multiple disks or volumes are present.Press Return. No special text message will be shown indicating that the command was successful.Empty the Trash.

This did not work either as when I attempted to delete the same message appeared.

So my question is this, how do I permanently delete these files? Do I need to buy third party software to do this?
