Applications :: ITunes Home Sharing Doesn't Work On Wireless Network?

May 1, 2010

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

I tried to set up a home share between mine and my girlfriend's MacBooks. It worked okay both ways, but then I disconnected my ethernet cable and the connection dropped.

I started fiddling around and discovered that home sharing only works as long as any one of the two computers is connected to the router with a cable. The other one can be connected wirelessly. But it won't work if both are wireless at the same time.

OS X Technologies :: Enable Web Sharing With Password Security?

Mar 17, 2012

how to enable Web Sharing, but I want to make it so that only certain people can access the shared directory. How can I make it so that users can get a password prompt and then see ALL files in my Users>myname>Sites folder? I see several complicated methods on the web on how to enable a password prompt for users coming to look at a file, but is there somewhere a simpler way to make this password-protected? BTW, I started the process, and was able to open httpd.conf using terminal, but, after I changed AllowOverride None to AllowOverride All, I was not able to save the file, even though I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, which supposedly allows changes to httpd.conf.

Mac Mini :: Why Doesn't "DVD Or CD Sharing" Show Up Inside Sharing Preferences

Apr 18, 2012

I've got a mac mini that i got less than 2 mos ago, and i'm trying to install ProTools onto my machine from a DVD.  When i was initially configuring my machine, i checked out the Remote Disc feature, but over my lame wifi connection, things were taking way too long, and I dropped it. Now, when trying to setup this Pro Tools install, I seem to have lost the ability to use the DVD/CD sharing options in my System Preferences.  The option just isn't there anymore.  I have the option on my Snow Leopard MBP, and it's enabled there, and the two machines are connected on a computer-to-computer wireless connection.

OS X Technologies :: IMac That Doesn't Have Thunderbolt Display

Mar 29, 2012

I have a mid 2009 iMac that doesn't have Thunderbolt display, but has a mini-dvi port. Will the Thunderbolt cinema display 27" still work when connected to this mini-dvi port? I thought it would be better going for a thunderbolt display monitor rather than the older version, so when i upgrade my machine in the future it stays compatible.

I have a shell script running on a Linux machine to generate multipart mail messages. These display perfectly in Thunderbird (PC or Mac) but the html is missing when I open them in Mac mail. Switch to plain text and they look fine, but the html just doesn't display.

I've tried Snow Leopard and Lion with the same result.

OS X Technologies :: Deleted User Still Listed On Network?

Apr 16, 2012

After deleting one of 2 admin users on my MBP (Lion), my other computers still see both users listed on the home network. Mostly it's just annoying, when I can simply ignore the "ghost" user name, but in one case my oldest imac is confused and can't connect to either users.  There must be some way to delete preferences or otherwise get the network to "reset" its list of MBP users?  (It's is a basic Airport network with an Extreme plus an extending Express.)

OS X Technologies :: MYSql Doesn't Start After Restoring Harddrive From TM Backup?

Jun 11, 2012

Macbook Pro running Lion V 10.7.4 .After a hard drive failure this weekend, I restored frm my most recent backup.Unfortunately this did not include svn, host file changes and some other fairly easy to correct things. The one that has been giving me trouble for the last 8 hours is mysql. I have gone through and removed mysql (multiple times) and did fresh installs. Each time I was getting the error:

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (38)

Even after changing my /etc/my.cnf file to point to var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock I would get these errors.

Are there multiple locations where mysql points to /tmp/mysql.sock?

I am at a loss of what to do. I have uninstalled reeinstalled. Tried many different solutions all to reeive the same error.

OS X Technologies :: Possible To Prevent OS From Dropping And Deleting A Network Share Shortcut

Feb 17, 2012

One thing that has always bugged me about Mac OS is that when a network share becomes unresponsive or unavailable the shortcut on the desktop disappears and you get a glaring messaging that the share has been disconnected. Is there any way to prevent a network share from being removed just because it becomes momentarily unavailable? As an example, on a Windows machine the network share shortcut remains, you simply cannot use it but it is there and ready to go the moment the share comes back online. Is there some way to make OS X behave in this manner? Or is there a way to extend the time out interval for a network share?

Applications :: Make Previews Of Videos And Export As Web Page?

Nov 28, 2009

I am trying to make a list of the videos that i have shot with my digital camera....my 1Tb is almost full, so you can understand that is not that easy as looking into a folder with the big thumbnails

this is the expectation: to find an app that can

-create a preview of each video (qt, mov, m4v, wmv, avi, rm, etc)

-create few frames that shows the content of the video

-export the list of movies as web page, with the title of the video and the snapshot for each of them

Do you know if there is any way to achieve this result, without making manually everything?

I've found a software on pc, taht i can use with parallels, but it takes just 1 shot of the video, and not multiple, with the result that is hard to get what is in the video, especially when the video is 10-15 min long, and the name doesn't help to recall what was happening in that video

MacBook Air :: Sharing CD / DVD From Win XP Box Over Home Network

Dec 31, 2010

This is my first Mac and I haven't purchased the Superdrive yet. I've been searching Google and found a lot of "hits" on the general topic, but either it's using a different OS (slight difference in screens) or glances over the topic. Can anyone recommend a good thread or site that details how to share a CD/DVD from a Windows XP (Home Edition) box over a home network (Linksys 4 port/wireless) to a MBA (new). The MBA successfully connects to the wireless router and I can access the internet. The Desktop (Windows XP box) successfully connects via RJ45.

Secondly if the above is fairly easy, I'd love to know how I can print from the MBA through the network connection to the PC. The printer is a Xerox WorkCentre M15 (it's a office grade machine which I had presumed works well in a shared environment.) The printer is connected to the PC via a USB connection. However I've ordered a Buffalo LinkStation (I think that's the name) which is a NAS box that has print sharing capabilities, so I could hook the printer up that way if necessary to use for both the PC & Mac.

OS X :: File Sharing Between Mbp And Imac On Same Network

Safari :: 'Configure' Page Doesn't Load

When I go through the Apple Store ordering process, the body of the 'configure' page won't load. I get the header and footer, but no actual way to add more ram, bigger HD, applecare, etc, and proceed to place an order. Just a big empty space.

This is only happening on my Mac Pro in safari. It works fine on firefox, and on safari in my MBP. I've tried the usual basics, restart, repair permissions, reset safari, download and reinstall.... but I still can't get the page to show properly.
