I tried to set up a home share between mine and my girlfriend's MacBooks. It worked okay both ways, but then I disconnected my ethernet cable and the connection dropped.
I started fiddling around and discovered that home sharing only works as long as any one of the two computers is connected to the router with a cable. The other one can be connected wirelessly. But it won't work if both are wireless at the same time.
Does the new Messages Public Beta allow screen sharing like iChat did? This is important to me as I use it to provide support to my 84 year old mother, who has been a Mac user since 1986.

I've got a mac mini that i got less than 2 mos ago, and i'm trying to install ProTools onto my machine from a DVD. When i was initially configuring my machine, i checked out the Remote Disc feature, but over my lame wifi connection, things were taking way too long, and I dropped it. Now, when trying to setup this Pro Tools install, I seem to have lost the ability to use the DVD/CD sharing options in my System Preferences. The option just isn't there anymore. I have the option on my Snow Leopard MBP, and it's enabled there, and the two machines are connected on a computer-to-computer wireless connection.Â

I have a shell script running on a Linux machine to generate multipart mail messages. These display perfectly in Thunderbird (PC or Mac) but the html is missing when I open them in Mac mail. Switch to plain text and they look fine, but the html just doesn't display.

After deleting one of 2 admin users on my MBP (Lion), my other computers still see both users listed on the home network. Mostly it's just annoying, when I can simply ignore the "ghost" user name, but in one case my oldest imac is confused and can't connect to either users. There must be some way to delete preferences or otherwise get the network to "reset" its list of MBP users? (It's is a basic Airport network with an Extreme plus an extending Express.)Â

Macbook Pro running Lion V 10.7.4Â .After a hard drive failure this weekend, I restored frm my most recent backup.Unfortunately this did not include svn, host file changes and some other fairly easy to correct things.The one that has been giving me trouble for the last 8 hours is mysql. I have gone through and removed mysql (multiple times) and did fresh installs. Each time I was getting the error:Â

Even after changing my /etc/my.cnf file to point to var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock I would get these errors. Â
Are there multiple locations where mysql points to /tmp/mysql.sock? Â
I am at a loss of what to do. I have uninstalled reeinstalled. Tried many different solutions all to reeive the same error.Â

It will flash the keyboard backlight, but both displays remain black. And when i disconnect the external one, nothing happens. I've found a software on pc, taht i can use with parallels, but it takes just 1 shot of the video, and not multiple, with the result that is hard to get what is in the video, especially when the video is 10-15 min long, and the name doesn't help to recall what was happening in that video
My iMac's Internet Sharing since one week still be very slow. I have a realy fast Internet on my computer, so, that's not a problem. I use IS for my iPad and it opens only 1-3 pages, then it just stills loading. One week earlier I could watch films etc, so it worked. The same problems are also with catching it on my iPhone, so the problems is by iMac. It writes "connection timeout" or something like this.

This is my first Mac and I haven't purchased the Superdrive yet. I've been searching Google and found a lot of "hits" on the general topic, but either it's using a different OS (slight difference in screens) or glances over the topic. Can anyone recommend a good thread or site that details how to share a CD/DVD from a Windows XP (Home Edition) box over a home network (Linksys 4 port/wireless) to a MBA (new). The MBA successfully connects to the wireless router and I can access the internet. The Desktop (Windows XP box) successfully connects via RJ45.
Secondly if the above is fairly easy, I'd love to know how I can print from the MBA through the network connection to the PC. The printer is a Xerox WorkCentre M15 (it's a office grade machine which I had presumed works well in a shared environment.) The printer is connected to the PC via a USB connection. However I've ordered a Buffalo LinkStation (I think that's the name) which is a NAS box that has print sharing capabilities, so I could hook the printer up that way if necessary to use for both the PC & Mac.

When I go through the Apple Store ordering process, the body of the 'configure' page won't load. I get the header and footer, but no actual way to add more ram, bigger HD, applecare, etc, and proceed to place an order. Just a big empty space.Â
This is only happening on my Mac Pro in safari. It works fine on firefox, and on safari in my MBP. I've tried the usual basics, restart, repair permissions, reset safari, download and reinstall.... but I still can't get the page to show properly.Â
