OS X Mountain Lion :: Emails Have Wrong Headers And Subject Line
Dec 10, 2014
I just recently decided to try iMap for my google mail so that I could more efficiently read my mail on my devices and computer. Since setting up iMap, I've had a strange problem. I will open a message and the message will not be from the person that the subject and headers say it is from. Example. I get a Kohl's email with headers from amazon and then in the Amazon email is my Kohl's message. They look fine if I access the emails online through a web browser, so somehow they are getting messed up after being downloaded into Mail. This did not happen when I was using the Pop method of accessing my email accounts.

When I receive an e-mail that has pictures (photos, etc.) attached, these seem always to be displayed in the message. That means that if I print the message, all the pictures are printed, too. How can I prevent this?Â
I want to download the attached pictures separately, but to print just the text of the incoming mail.

I have received an email in graphical HTML format — a series of venues and dates for a band in the form of a grid. It shows up beautifully in webmail, but in Apple Mail it shows uselessly as unformatted and unpunctuated text. Is there any setting in Mail prefs., or some other subterfuge, that would allow such emails to show properly in Mail?

Being a recent convert from Windows and Outlook, I'm struggling to keep track of my emails on my Macbook Air as related messages get grouped together and stored under a single item. Is this setting configurable in some way and, if so, how do I manage it?

I am using OSX 10.9.3 on mid 2011 Macbook Pro. I am working in Apple mail and e-mail thru a google account and a pop3 account.
My question is: How do I stop, copies of my (as I am) composing e-mail, from showing up in the mail trash. I can have as many copies in the mail trash as the number of words in my message. I have looked thru the mail, apple support (non fee based) and thru FAQ in communities.

Apple Mail has a preference to 'Trust junk mail headers in messages' but I can not find a list of what those headers are.By trial and error I've learned the "X-Spam-Flag: YES" will work (exactly that, no extra info), but I'd like to know what other options there are... particularly if I can send a score/rating back and have it look at that. But I can't find a list of supported headers. The Internet is full of "common spam headers" and yet none of them actually seem to work and lots of people who can't get it working with spamassassin which is incredibly common.

Apple mail out of office rule is sending auto replies to all emails not just newly received emails--HELP! I set up the rule according to another apple support thread and instead of only sending the reply to new mail received, it was sent to all messages I believe that were in my INBOX, I only had a few but several people that hadn't sent me emails since I set up the rule, received the OUT OF OFFICE reply. Here is the procedure I followed for the out of office rule-[URL]I just used my email account which is a business account- not an ECU account but these rules according to the apple thread apply for all emails.

I don't like the idea of Mail.app downloading the whole e-mail when I want to check for new ones.Is there any way to make it only get the subject? The idea here is to download the whole mail only if I want to (like clicking on the subject).

I switched from Ubuntu to Mac OS X 10.9.4 today at work. I'm already using Mac OS X on my private MacBook since two years now. We're using Cisco Jabber at work and I remember the Messages App to also support the XMPP protocol. So I added a new account, entered my credentials, the Jabber server and its port. All worked fine at first. Chatting with people using clients other than the original Cisco Jabber (either for Windows or for Mac) worked fine. But every message I'm receiving from someone using Cisco Jabber starts with an underscored "Subject" text. I don't think this is sent from Cisco Jabber as part of the text because I did not have such problems with receiving messages using Pidgin in 12 months.
So: Is there a way to turn this off or is it really sent by Cisco Jabber and Pidgin simply ignored it all the time?

How can I get the mail headers to "gray" out or be colored when they've been read? Right now, ALL messages in the list are bold black. Once I read an email, it still shows bold and black. I need some sort of identification to show what is NEW and what HAS BEEN READ. Â
I've been using Outlook, which grays out read messages. Â

Am trying to use Mail (version 3.6 on OS 10.5.8) and when I view a message would like to be able the 'To' and 'Cc' fields without having to use Long Headers or Raw Source options (which I found under the View - Message menu). These give far too much unnecessary information, but I need to be able to easily see who else the message has been sent to. This seems really basic for an email program and I suspect it is really obvious, but I've looked everywhere and on the web with no answers!

I have my Mac Pro set up to boot at a certain time every morning using the energy saver schedule feature. I have also set a disk I've named "Lion HD" as my startup disk. I also have a disk named "Lion HD back up" which is an exact bootable clone created with "super duper". Every now & then the computer boots into the Lion backup rather than the Lion HD. Any ideas why this happens & what I can do to fix it?

I have a problem with my inbox, seems its corrupted in some way. I can see the headers, but no contents, cant delete or move message. All other folders seem Ok. Its from a POP3 mailbox where the originals are deleted off the server when downloaded so I'd prefer to try and recover it but I can live with losing the contents if necessary. Any ideas? Is there a tool or way to repair? I have Time Machine but I doubt the TM backup will have caught these files between them being downloaded (they came in one batch) and being corrupted as it was only a few minutes. Not sure how I could tell if TM did catch them either. TM did recover them, now I just need to work out how to empty the inbox of the corrupt messages. Worst case I can create a new email account but I'd rather not as configuring it was troublesome. Mailbox > rebuild, then move the messages from the TM mail recovered folder back to inbox.

I'm currently testing a website that shows users different results depending on how the arrived at the page according to their referer header. Does anyone know of a Safari extension that allows you to define referrers for different URLs? Right now I'm using Firefox and RefControl to do this but I'd like to be able to do it in Safari as well for testing completeness, apparently there is a SIMBL plugin called SafariRefManage that used to do this but SIMBL no longer works under Lion.

However, when I chose iCloud and entered the password to view iCloud password, there was, what appeared to be enough random letters, numbers and symbols to fill the entire data entry window. I looked at other passwords and only one other was weird. can I changed a passeord when I am in KeyChain?Â

After the disaster getting Quicken for Mac 2007 (or earlier) to sort-of work on Lion, has anyone checked if the Lion Compatible Quicken for Mac works on the new Mountain Lion operating system? For no apparent reason, now when I create a new mailbox, the first column header contains a mystery icon consisting of two arrows, one pointing northwest and the other pointing southeast. When I right-click on the headers, there is no corresponding item in the pop-up menu (e.g. Attachments, To, From), so I have no clue what it is, nor can I hide it. Mailboxes I created prior to whatever it is that changed do not have this icon. I have not changed my OS, nor the version of Mail I am using. Can anyone tell me what this icon/column is for, and how I can get rid of it??
