When trying to Save a document, I am presented with the Save As dialog. The file name has a serial number added to the old file name and the default destination is the Documents file. This happens whether I have tried to save using Command-S or using the Save option in the File menu. This started after I upgraded to Mavericks.

When ever I try to open or save a file in any application the spinning wheel is shown and the dialog takes from 5 to 20 seconds to display. Once it is on screen the speed returns to normal. I have a G5 Power Mac 1.6 GHz (Single Processor) 2 GB RAM (crucial) 2 SATA hard-disks (original 80 GB used as a clone for the 160 GB - I use carbon copy cloner) Everything else is as standard with the Mac. This problem started with 10.3 and may have been at the same time as installing the second 160 GB hard-disk, cloning the original to the new one, then changing the SATA cables around to make the new hard-disk on bus A. I then upgraded to Tiger but the problem still persists. I have tried repairing permissions and have used support tools like cocktail etc to check for hard drive issues and clear the cache files.
Also, on installing the second hard-disk, I also tried swap cop to change the swap file to the backup hard-disk. This did not work so I manual modified the files to return them to the original state. I did this while the system was running 10.3. I take it on upgrading to 10.4, the swap file config would have been fixed anyway? Everything else on the system seems fine. If nothing specific is found I may try removing the old hard disk.
When I right click to save a picture online, it doesn't give me the opportunity to save something as a JPEG. I instead have to save it as a preview and then export it to JPEG. This seems like something relatively new.

If I do not use Time Machine, and open a new document in Pages, and type for ten minutes, and close the document, and click "Don't save" by mistake, is there any Auto Save or Versions of that document or just 100% out of luck? url...but I don't get any clear yes or no from it.

Since upgrading to Lion, I can't save changes or even save new documents in Pages on my laptop. When I try to save, I get the dialog box: "The document “Untitled 2” could not be saved as “Untitled 2”. Permission denied" I can't find anything in Pages preferences or in the System preferences where this setting can be changed if it is a setting.

I made a clean install today. iCloud sync on, everything is fine. I setup a new user, so I could give screen sharing and file sharing rights to a user with another mac.
Now, I cannot change any contacts in my contacts.app any more.
I checked the rights for Library etc. and gave the Admin and the user accounts again full read and write permissions.

I'm on a 17" mid 2010 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.9.3. When I open contacts and try to add a new contact then click done or save it doesn't save after closing. The Mail feature on my MacBookPro is not saving all the messages from my inbox. It did at first, a year ago, but in recent months I notice that some messasges are omitted. They are not spam; they include messages from someone in my Contacts list, as well as other legitimate organizations, etc. I tried to see if they were "combined" into some other related message, but saw no evidence of this, unless there is some hidden indicator.

I have upgraded from Snow Leopard to Maverick and now all the old files I had saved in my external HD cannot be modified.
I can open them, for example in photohop CS6, but cannot save them or modify cause apparently "have no permission".
I went to Get Info and change the permissions to Write & Read for all the users available + admin but still no joy.
Someone suggested to use disk Utility to repair the permissions but the option is greyed out when I select the WD...

My mail program seems to be slow. I'm not sure why. I get the spinning ball frequently. I need to save mail messages sometimes for a few years and there are hundreds of emails. Is it better to save them on my computer than my mail program? I may need to retrieve them at some other time so they need to be readable. Is that possible?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a newly refurbished emac running the latest OSX 10.9.3. I used to be able to move images from iPhoto to the desktop and using Preview change the file size. I need to do this to upload images of a specific size to a website. Now Preview will not save the adjusted image size. I adjust the size from a 5 meg image to a 1.5 meg image but when I go to upload the image it is still 5 meg. I try saving it before closing it but it doesn't do anything (by the way I hate the new options or lack thereof when it comes to saving in Preview)

What can be done if Time Machine failed to save certain data to external hard disk, but I do have the old hard drive? I have a new IMac 10.9.2. The old IMac was hit by lightning/surge. Restored data from external LaCie disk but some information is missing. Apparently Time Machine did not save it to the external disk, or we just can't locate it. We do haves the old hard disk and will put it in a box to be able to access it.
Is partitioning the answer?
Under Safari-Preferences-Passwords, there is a list of my online passwords. How can I copy the contents of that dialog box and paste it into a printed document that I can put away in a safe place?

This file is the NOLF folder, and that file, and everything in the NOLF folder is set to read and write premissions to everyone. Yet when I try to modify any of the cfg files in the directory, I can't save. It comes up with a message simply saying it cannot save.
