If I do not use Time Machine, and open a new document in Pages, and type for ten minutes, and close the document, and click "Don't save" by mistake, is there any Auto Save or Versions of that document or just 100% out of luck? url...but I don't get any clear yes or no from it.

my 3 hours screen flow works are completly gone because lion's autosave feature.saved final version and re opend it. next, i deleted existing contents and try to save with another name. because this have 2 giga more contents. existing file was gone. I am really wonder my process was bad? am i missing some to use lion?i am regret so much to use this in lion and go to snow leopard again.

I don't mind iWork, but one thing that bugs me is having to specify all the time that i'd like to save the document as the microsoft version (ppt, doc, excel etc) instead of the apple formats. It also isn't that fun to then have to navigate to where the original file is and overwrite it. Any way to just have the apps default save your documents (whether new or old) as microsoft versions?

When I try to save, I get the dialog box: "The document “Untitled 2” could not be saved as “Untitled 2”. When I use Firefox, I automatically get a "do you want to save" message when I close down so when I restart FF, I'm back with my same tabs, etc. Never happens with Safari. I even input ID's at websites which aren't held the next time around. Can I get Safari to act like FF when it comes to saving tabs, site Id's, and such.

When trying to Save a document, I am presented with the Save As dialog. The file name has a serial number added to the old file name and the default destination is the Documents file. I understand the lion installer evaporates after use. I have three macs and would rather not endure the 2+ hours to download lion for each. As soon as the App Store finished downloading it, it went straight into the install sequence. Before the problematic ridden Lion OS, I was always able to save a pdf page in Safari simpy be Save or Save as. Now I always get the annoying message ''File xxxx can not be exported as xxxx.pdf". I am unable to save documents created on Pages and Textedit on my main "Macintosh HD" after the first save. If I create a document, save it then edit it and try to save again it comes up with "This document "test" could not be saved" No extra info other than that message.
If I try to save onto my second drive, " Macintosh HD 2" (the non-boot drive) it works fine.
I have
1/ checked read and write permissions and my Macintosh HD and they are set for "read & write"
2/ I have repaired disk premissions using Disc Utilities to no avail
3/ booted using Cmd - R and used terminal and applied "reset home directory permissions and ACL's" to no avail.

Since updated to Lion I have found that Save As in Edit is no longer available. Screen shots and certain other images and docs I need to Save As jpegs in order to use in Photoshop. I cannot name docs form the drop down menu but instead have to close and rename it in the label on my desktop. The only option is Save a Version but when I do this I have no idea if and where the image is going as it does not show up on my desktop. Why is this feature of Save As removed? Some image files cannot be opened by PS unles in specific fomat and the word document issue is just annoying as it adds additonal steps to naming.

When I edit an image I have on my desktop with the Preview app and then save it, everything works fine.If I edit that same image with Photoshop CS6, save it (same or copy) on the desktop, and then try for example to resize or crop it with the Preview app, it won't work. It says it can't autosave because I don't have the right permissions or something like that... I already tried to repair them. I use the latest version of Lion. I also tried to do the same thing on Snow Leopard and it works fine.
