As the picture below, my system password dialog box is showing as all symbols, with no readable text. This isn't program dependant, it happens for everything. Is there any way to fix this?Â

I have my HP photo smart printer plugged into my time capsule. I never had any issues printing with my last laptop (MBA) but i just got a new 13" MBP and can't print. MBP sees the printer on my time capsule via Bonjour, but when I try to add it to my printers i get a dialog box that says: "type the name and password of a user in teh "_Ipadmin" group to allow AddPrinter to make changes." I have no idea what the "_Ipadmin" group is and i've tried all my normal user names & passwords but it tells me they are all wrong.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSometimes when I let my MBP (see sig) go to sleep with the screen open, I come back and hit the spacebar to wake it up and it doesn't give me the password dialog box to wake it from sleep. All i see is a black screen with the mouse pointer on it. This sometimes happens when I wake and DO get the password box but if I wait and don't enter the password right away, the box disappears and wont come back. In both cases I'm forced to push the power button to shut it down and restart. Any solutions to this, or is it just a fluke?

I issue the open Image.dmg command, at which time a dialog box pops up on the screen, prompting me for the encryption password. However, what I'd like to do is issue the password without a GUI-based password dialog. Is this possible? If so, how? The reason I want to do this is because I ssh into my Mac from a remote Linux box, and I can only run command-line utilities. I'd like to open the volume from within this remote connection.

Upon launching, the app opens a dialog window saying, "Mail can't connect to the Google account 'Gmail'. Enter the password for user (username)." Then when I enter the password, the app crashes. Sometimes clicking the "Cancel" botton allows the app to open, but sometimes that results in a crash as well. Also, when I can launch Mail successfully, sometimes when I try to send mail, the outgoing mail will sit in the Outbox unsent. Â
I've been getting these warnings with both my Yahoo and Gmail accounts. Until a few days ago I was using Yahoo as my primary account, but the inability to send mail caused me to switch to Gmail as my primary. After a couple days of smooth sailing, I'm now getting the same errors with my Gmail.
When trying to Save a document, I am presented with the Save As dialog. The file name has a serial number added to the old file name and the default destination is the Documents file. This happens whether I have tried to save using Command-S or using the Save option in the File menu. This started after I upgraded to Mavericks.

Any documents or mails about the app get lists but not the applications.Â
Interesting that even using the Alfred add-on, I can type the app name in and again don't get it in the search at all.Â
I tried rebuilding using disk utility as well as Onyx - to no success.Â

i got a problem report pop up from Firefox today, usually it's not an issue but this came up in a strange language, one i had never seen before, every language is sent to English ive checked everything, worried somebody could be accessing my iMac from another location, did the usual net stat, last press & users commands and it hasn't come up with anything untoward, just a little worried about it cos it was really strange.

A few weeks ago iMessage on my Mac started doing an annoying thing where all my outgoing iMessages are blank, but the incoming messages are fine. So I can't see my side of any conversation. But I can see both sides properly on iOS (iPhone and iPad). So if someone starts messaging me when I am on my laptop, I have to have my phone turned on too so I can follow the conversation properly, as all of my replies are disappearing the instant I hit return to send them.

Using an iMac 2011 with Mavericks 10.9.4. Been having issues with the Mail client leaving mail that has been read in the 'unread' smart box. The account is an IMAP, and I have done the empty the whole thing and start over routine, and that works. However I don't want to keep having to do this over and over, since some of my boxes are large.Â
is there something that I need to do on the other end of the IMAP, since the email is on a domain I own, not gmail or yahoo.

I was working on a iMac running Snow Leopard, trying to change the home folder of the previous owner, call her Kathy, to the new owner, Barb, because Barb needs access to all of Kathy's folders, email, etc.Â
Right now all I have in Users is Admin. Barb's account is appearing in Groups, not Users. And I'm not sure if all of Kathy's data is in Barb's account.Â
How do I get Barb's account back into Users?Â

A while back I started noticing some odd behaviour in Messages AppÂ
We use this at the office to communicate between systems, and often send image files back and forth between co-workers. Recently though a bug began in which images don't actually show in line, but rather simply show the filename and a link to open it in Finder.
The weirdest part of the bug is that if the chat window is open in the background the image will display just fine. However as soon as I switch to make it active in order to respond or quicklook the image it immediately becomes the filename with the magnifying glass icon to direct me to it's location in finder.Â
I'm using Finder to search for files on a server connected to my computer at work. The search results I am getting do not include all the files that meet my search criteria. For example, I am looking through photo files for any files with "34" in the name. Some files show up, but not all of them. See screenshot. I am searching in the "Branded Photoshoot" folder, and I am getting some results (Branded Photoshoot/Hilton Universal/IMG_1434), but another file that is in folder, though a different subfolder, (Branded Photoshoot/Architectural Center/IMG_1534) is NOT showing up. What is causing that subfolder and its files to not be included in the search results?

I notice the Archive mailbox in Apple Mail has disappeared. I can find messages in that mailbox using Searchlight if I know the exact contents of the message or subject but I use this mailbox to store application licenses, etc., and do not always know the right subject. I used to browse, knowing roughly the time when I bought the licese. Also the Flagged mailbox is grayed out in the favorites line and not shown in the left hand mailbox side bar.Also a pain because I set reminder messages and conference call emails with colored flags. Â

'm showing iBooks, Pages, & Preview are still open via the Force Quit dialog but I haven't used them since the previous evening.I have an older Macbook (Aluminum, Late 2008) so I try to run as lean as possible. There are no extra windows open that I can find. Double clicking them from Force Quit brings them up to then quit from the application proper, apps to quit when I tell them to.Has this to do with iCloud integration? (Like Pages wasn't quite done with an iCloud upload before I quit).Should I try a reinstall of the apps or Mavericks?
