OS X Mavericks :: Does Mail Support Google Dual Element Authentication?
Sep 11, 2014
My Gmail account was recently hacked. To stop the damage (malware distribution) I changed my password. This stopped the sending of emails under my email address.
While changing my password, Google suggested I use their implementation of their dual element authentication which comprises a password and, in my case, a SMS address (iPhone number) to which google sends a specific text code (six digits for me) that when I enter it validates the device I am using, either PC MAC or smartphone.
For those apps that cannot handle the SMS (second validation step) Google provides a one-time-password that combines the password and second element so that it can be entered in the single password field of those apps that only have one field.
Fine. This works for non Apple apps such as Outlook for MAC (on my MAC) and Google's gmail app on my iPhone.
But it does not work for Apple MAIL on my MAC or the Apple MAIL on my iPhone.

Since updating Safari recently to 5.1.5, if I choose the Mail Link to This Page command, instead of opening Mail.app with a new email with the link pasted in, it launches Google Chrome and, in Chrome, goes to the email login page for Google webmail. If I choose the Mail Contents of This Page command, I get an error message stating: "Safari can't create an email message because Google Chrome.app doesn't support sending webpages from Safari. You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send webpages." Safari is set as my default browser. This behavior started immediately after the 5.1.5 update.I use these commands pretty regularly and, through many version of mail.app and Safari, there has never been a glitch. Any ideas, folks? Or is this a bug introduced by 5.1.5 or some other recent Software Update? (Software updates are completely up to date and on 10.7.3.)
I have been using Mail on the Mac for 3 years now and it's mostly worked great. Now it does not synch properly. I can see new emails on the web version of gmail, but they never show up in Mail.
macmail mail will only load one outgoing GMAIL mail server. So I can load as many accounts as I want, receive mail in mac mail, but when i send mail it only comes from one of the outgoing gmail mail servers. The rest of the gmail mail servers show as being "offline."
We're having problems with the mail app sending mail.
Every link, support forum, etc. says to turn off authentication to fix the problem. However, HOW do you turn off authentication?!
Under Preferences-Accounts-Advanced there is the Authentication drop-down box, which has 5 options: Password, MD5 Challenge-Response, GSSAPI, APOP, and NTLM. I don't see an option for 'None' anywhere!
Using Apple Mail on Mac Pro , ver 10.7.4--have RCN as ISP Intermittently I receive a message saying "password rejected by pop server"-- I receive emails properly otherwise but out of nowhere this goes on for weeks. I had this problem on previous OS with Entourage. RCN said it was Apple. Apple said it was Entourage. Switched to Apple Mail now and getting same problem Apple says Under Pref-settings-advanced Use Authenticated Pop, instead of Password-but this doesn't work at all. RCN is useless, have no idea and blames apple. Applecare says " Oh, i don't know anything about AppleMail."

I keep getting a small triangle next to my e-mail inbox that indicates that I can't receive e-mail unless I accept an insecure authentication, checked in advanced in mail preferences. This problem seems to have arrived with my upgrade to Yosemite and it is causing e-mail from my family to be rejected and returned.
I are disagreeing over the new MAC Mini and the two video cable connections on the back. He said it will support dual monitors and I said it is just a different type of connection for one monitor.
I recently flashed my Sapphire 4870 1gb card and haven't been able to get dual monitor support working in Mac OS. Has anyone been able to get this working on a Sapphire 4870?
It works fine in Windows, not sure why it wont work in MacOS as I imagine the 10.5.7 drivers should be doing all the work.
Google has announced the intention to remove support for H.264 video playback from its Crome browser to "enable open innovation," yet still apparently plans to promote Adobe Flash. According to Google's product manager of Chrome Mike Jazayeri, the company will be "focusing our investments in those technologies that are developed and licensed based on open web principles," at least when it comes to WebM VP8 and Theora video codecs Google released after acquiring On2 last year. That effort excludes support for the ISO's MPEG 4 H.264 codec, which is commercially licensed by its pool of patent holders. Google is apparently not exercising the same principles when it comes to supporting Adobe Flash, which unlike H.264, is completely proprietary to one company rather than being administered by a standards body.
I have an old Powerbook G4 1.33GHz. Which is Mac OS9 Compatible. Is it possible to dual boot this system with OS9 and Leopard. I really want to upgrade from tiger but I don't want to lose classic support. If it is possible to do this could you tell me how or point me to a website that can show me.
Rather than waiting for Microsoft to implement HTML 5, Google has released a plugin for Internet Explorer 8 that injects its own WebKit rendering engine, resulting in a ten fold performance boost for JavaScript. A report by Gregg Keizer in Computerworld said that installing Google's plugin resulted in an average speed improvement that was 9.6 times faster than IE 8 alone, based on SunSpider JavaScript benchmarks. Google recommends the new IE plugin, called Chrome Frame, to any users who aren't able to install an alternative browser. With the plugin installed, IE's own Trident rendering engine continues to render web pages until it either encounters HTML 5 or is manually prompted by the user to render like the native Chrome browser. In addition to being much faster at executing JavaScript, Chrome Frame's WebKit rendering engine also provides IE with support for new HTML 5 features, which are required to run an emerging crop of advanced web applications. WebKit also powers Apple's Safari browser and the mobile version of Safari used on the iPhone and iPod touch. One example of an advanced HTML 5 web app is Google Wave, a collaboration toolkit for building dynamic browser apps that enable rich communication features between users. Google Wave invites IE users to download the Chrome Frame plugin, or alternatively download a browser than can render HTML 5 natively, including the full version of Chrome, Safari 4, or Firefox 4.......
Until today, I have been able to email using reader. Today, I am getting the following error message: Safari can't create an email message because Google Chrome doesn’t support sending webpages from Safari.

I have a Power Mac G5 2.3Ghz dual-core system (M9591LL/A) with 2.5GBs of RAM and an Nvidia 6600 PCIe graphics card with 256MBs of RAM.
I tried playing a full-screen HD episode of "The Office" on Hulu.com and it was extremely choppy (like 0.5fps). The sound was fine. It's still quite choppy (~2fps) in a normal browser window (not full-screen)
Is this normal? Does this video card not support it? What is the most powerful card that can be installed in this machine? I'm not opposed to buying a PC card and flashing the ROM if need-be.
I'm new here and am having trouble with a new WD 2TB Element external hard drive. It is the first Element HD I have purchased. I needed a larger HD to back up all my music and video. I bought it brand new and plugged it into my 13 inch white Macbook and found out that it has to be reformatted before I can write to it. I have bought and used several other WD HDs in the past and never had to do this. I could find no directions on ho to do it in the scant instruction booklet and have looked all over online but have not found any help, so I am hoping a vet here can lend a hand. I really appreciate any help I can get.
I am now testing the CalDigit Raid Card with their HD element - for a total of 8TBs in Raid 5 (6.7TB usable)I am reporting that the speed is phenomenal.I am using about 60% capacity on the array and the speeds areThey are still having some issues with expanding your array from 4TBs to 8Tbs.. Mac OS Disk Utility problems. and also fine tuning the HD Element to start shipping outbut creating the array from scratch 8TBs, Raid5, and then repopulating all of the data onto it... Im reporting that its working amazing for photo and video editing
With the last few versions of Safari, including 5.1.7, the toolbar has not been customizable. When right clikcing or using menu the toolbar window does not appear. Clicking any icon on toolbar removes that element. This suggests the toolbar is in an edit mode. Only a restart will reset toolbar. Running snow leopard. All updates added To OS.
This system is not opening or allowing PC Applications i.e. microsoft office suite, where all my documents are in. Is there anything I can do to this computer besides buying an external hard drive and splitting the system in two Mac and PC based?
I am attempting to setup Windows on my Mac. I tried to download the Windows Support Software using Boot Camp Assistant, but it all times out with a 'Network Error'.
Whenever I try to search for an address in Google Earth it crashes. I am running version 7.1.2.2041 of Google Earth and 10.9.3 of Mavericks. I've tried rebooting with no effect.
