After getting this error i lost a 4GB folder on my external drive when i tried to move the folder from one to another. How do i get it back?

I needed a larger HD to back up all my music and video. I bought it brand new and plugged it into my 13 inch white Macbook and found out that it has to be reformatted before I can write to it. I have bought and used several other WD HDs in the past and never had to do this. I could find no directions on ho to do it in the scant instruction booklet and have looked all over online but have not found any help, so I am hoping a vet here can lend a hand. I really appreciate any help I can get.

Mac OS Disk Utility problems. and also fine tuning the HD Element to start shipping outbut creating the array from scratch 8TBs, Raid5, and then repopulating all of the data onto it... View 10 Replies View RelatedWith the last few versions of Safari, including 5.1.7, the toolbar has not been customizable. When right clikcing or using menu the toolbar window does not appear. Clicking any icon on toolbar removes that element. This suggests the toolbar is in an edit mode. Only a restart will reset toolbar. Running snow leopard. All updates added To OS.

My Gmail account was recently hacked. To stop the damage (malware distribution) I changed my password. This stopped the sending of emails under my email address.
While changing my password, Google suggested I use their implementation of their dual element authentication which comprises a password and, in my case, a SMS address (iPhone number) to which google sends a specific text code (six digits for me) that when I enter it validates the device I am using, either PC MAC or smartphone.
For those apps that cannot handle the SMS (second validation step) Google provides a one-time-password that combines the password and second element so that it can be entered in the single password field of those apps that only have one field.
Fine. This works for non Apple apps such as Outlook for MAC (on my MAC) and Google's gmail app on my iPhone.
But it does not work for Apple MAIL on my MAC or the Apple MAIL on my iPhone.

I've had the octo 2.8 for a while and am just now getting around to letting go of my Rev A 2.0. The 2.0 has an extra drive in it (a couple years old). Both computers use SATA, right, or are they different?
Is the drive from the older computer compatible with the MP, or is it too out-of-date?
I have an old Macbook Pro with 10.4 on it and have just bought a new iMac with 10.5 on (of course) and I transfered all my mail over by taking the Mail folder in the user library and copying it to my new computer. So this moved all my mail and accounts. However, my issue is that some of my mail when I click on it in my inbox will appear blank when trying to view it, but they still keep their 'from', 'subject', 'date received' info. Is there a better way of transferring my mail over? Or can I fix it without having too? What can I do?! I still have my mail on my old mac, but I want to get rid of and can't till this is fixed.

Instead a window opens asking if I am sure I want to delete the item and when I then click delete it is deleted all the same. Previously however the items went into the trash, you could see on the icon that something was in there and I could then decide later if I want to delete it permanently or have it restored.

I do a lot of work that involves advertising, photography, video editing, DVD authoring, photoshop and illustrator files. The illustrator vector files are fairly compressed but the photoshop raster files can be extremely large. Sometimes, I have someone wishing to send me a large portfolio folder, or I find I may want to send a big file to someone else. As an example, I recently had an artist send me a hi-res portfolio of his book covers to be made into a promotional DVD for comic-con. One of the CD's he sent me had the wrong pics on it, so I had to wait for the correct pics to be sent, which delayed the project several days. I can compress a single file for emailing, but can not drop the resolution as a way to minimize folder size if the file is going to be printed. I work predominantly on a mac, but many of my customers use windows based operating systems.
What is the best method for sending and receiving large digital files from a variety of customers? If I get an FTP site, can I keep one client from accessing someone else's folders? I noticed that Skype allows for file transfer... is VOIP practical for sending large files? This month's macworld made mention of a bit torrent program for such a chore. What about using a bit torrent program such as Transmission for creating a bit torrent folder for moving large files to a single customer? Are paid services available? Is a paid service the best choice? I am looking for a method that I can both send and receive these large files. It should be easy enough for a less than tech savvy customer to send me files after I give them a minimal explanation of how to do it. Preferably, it would involve no cost to a customer, and no need for them to install software.
I want to digitize my DVD collection, first to get everything in one spot and two, to stop my kids from wrecking all the DVD's we have. Hopefully the end result will be to move all our DVD's (maybe 50 or so) onto our MacBook Pro, into iTunes and be able to access them through Home Sharing on the new Apple TV.
Researching this for a while, it seems like a I need to download Mac The Ripper and/or Handbrake. I'm not sure if I need both of them or just one to do this. I can't seem to find something that addresses this for a newbie like myself.
I would like to move my windows partition from a shared disk with OS X & Windows7 to its own drive. I have true image so that should be easy. I have 2 questions1 Do I need to run bootcamp setup on the new drive before cloning?2 On the old windows partition that I would like to turn into a OS X partition can I just reformat that partition to wipe out windows or is there another step. The other half of the drive is my boot disk so I do not want to reformat the whole drive.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm THIS close to putting an SSD in my optical bay, and using it for the OS and applications, and will leave all of my data on my HDD. The problem is that my HDD is 600Gb that's about 400Gb full, and I'm looking at a 128 or even 256Gb SSD. Since the SSD is smaller than the HDD, I can't just do a full recovery to the SSD then move data files to the HDD.
My question is, what is the right way to migrate all of the OS files and applications to a different drive, while leaving everything else on the HDD?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy MPB's sound just randomly stopped working today. The speaker icon on the top toolbar is grayed/faded (as if not turned on) but the sound is all the way up. I can't move the sound up or down, and when I press a sound button, there is an x under the speaker.
I have tried restarting and I made sure that the preferences were on the correct output setting.
I was wondering if there's a way to move files instead of copy them via dragging with the mouse, or even a keyboard shortcut? I attempt to drag a dock icon to a new location on the dock, but it won't let me. The other icons don't separate so the icon will drop to the location I want. Randomly, items will separate when I hover over so I could drop the item between them, but only in that spot and no other locations. What am I missing here?
