I have been using Mail on the Mac for 3 years now and it's mostly worked great. Now it does not synch properly. I can see new emails on the web version of gmail, but they never show up in Mail.

I'm wanting to ask if there is a good Mac App, maybe an all in one type app?
I am running Lion (latest ver) on my iMac (2011, i7), and have icloud set up to sync mail (and other stuff) with my iPhone 4. My iCloud account Sent Mail and Drafts are being syncronized between the cloud the iPhone, but not the iMac. So for example, I see 2 items in my Drafts folder when I log into icloud.com, and I see them in the drafts folder on iPhone mail, but they do not appear in the drafts folder for my iCloud account on Mail.app on the iMac. Also, I don't see emails I sent from icloud.com on my Mac's mail. I have iCloud enabled on the mac, and mail syncing is specifically turned on. Â

My wife has Mavericks and uses OSX Mail with Hotmail. (I have my 12 year old G4 with Tiger OS and a $10 burner cellphone. I'm IT support at home but don't actually have any of the gadgets so it makes it tough to explore answers myself.) She also does things with her email on her iPhone, and occasionally will use the web based interface directly to the Hotmail account. The devices are currently all talking to each other and when she moved a message in Mail it appeared in the folder on her iPhone. When she deleted it on her iPhone it disappeared from the folder in Mail on her computer.Â
Now let's say at some stage her iPhone is in airplane mode, her computer is not connected to wi-fi, and she logs into her email account on another computer using the web interface. Let's say she then does different things to the same message on each of the devices while they are not connected such as delete the email on one device, move it to one folder on another, and move it to a different folder on the third device. Then she turns off airplane mode, turns on wi-fi. What takes precedence? Which action will get synced to the other two?
I want to disable the syncing of settings for my mail accounts across devices. It is causing issues.Â
Right now when I set up or modify a mail account on my iMac it changes the settings on my Macbook. This isn't an iCloud account. They are my email accounts with 3rd part service providers.Â
1)Â How can I turn the sync function off?Â
2) The issue it cause is that incoming ports get changed on one of the machines without me changing anything. Then my emails stop coming in on one of the machines.
macmail mail will only load one outgoing GMAIL mail server. So I can load as many accounts as I want, receive mail in mac mail, but when i send mail it only comes from one of the outgoing gmail mail servers. The rest of the gmail mail servers show as being "offline."Â

My Gmail account was recently hacked. To stop the damage (malware distribution) I changed my password. This stopped the sending of emails under my email address.Â
While changing my password, Google suggested I use their implementation of their dual element authentication which comprises a password and, in my case, a SMS address (iPhone number) to which google sends a specific text code (six digits for me) that when I enter it validates the device I am using, either PC MAC or smartphone.Â
For those apps that cannot handle the SMS (second validation step) Google provides a one-time-password that combines the password and second element so that it can be entered in the single password field of those apps that only have one field.Â
Fine. This works for non Apple apps such as Outlook for MAC (on my MAC) and Google's gmail app on my iPhone.
But it does not work for Apple MAIL on my MACÂ or the Apple MAIL on my iPhone. Â

I've got a new Macbook Pro that I'm syncing through MobileMe to the older macbook pro it's replacing, as well as my desktop iMac. It has synced the mail properly, but on the laptop, which has been my main mac for mail etc, there are a lot of folders, old mail etc. I never had these folders etc on the desktop. I would now like to sync (copy) these folders and all the saved mail in them to the new laptop, and sync the whole thing with the iMac.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince updating Safari recently to 5.1.5, if I choose the Mail Link to This Page command, instead of opening Mail.app with a new email with the link pasted in, it launches Google Chrome and, in Chrome, goes to the email login page for Google webmail. If I choose the Mail Contents of This Page command, I get an error message stating: "Safari can't create an email message because Google Chrome.app doesn't support sending webpages from Safari. You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send webpages." Safari is set as my default browser. This behavior started immediately after the 5.1.5 update.I use these commands pretty regularly and, through many version of mail.app and Safari, there has never been a glitch. Any ideas, folks? Or is this a bug introduced by 5.1.5 or some other recent Software Update? (Software updates are completely up to date and on 10.7.3.)

I need to copy a set of email addresses and paste them into a spreadsheet for uploading. Using Mail's copy function I get the result "mailto: (address)". If I just copy that as an address Mail doesn't recognize it as a valid address. Is there a way around this?

I Have two Microsoft exchange mail one mail works properly, but the other has developed problem from past one week. Mails are automatically getting deleted every day, sometimes every few minutes. I have to restart the computer to again download the mails. The mails only get deleted from my computer and not the exchange. Also, would like to inform my MAC pro book got infected with Trojan.gen.2 virus. Which I discovered with Nortons antivirus software. I installed this software as I doubted if my mails are getting deleted owing some virus. Although my MAC is free of virus, the issue with one exchange mail remains and emails still gets deleted.

Seems when Apple Mail checks for new mail (Mail provider is Google), it does show up in the All Mail folder that Google provides, but the new messages are not showing up in the Apple Mail inbox.
When I check this in the Google mail web client, mail appears as normal. Â
I'm missing messages, so this is something I'd like to figure out what's going on. Â

I'll open up mail.app and see a message "Subject 1 - jondoe@me.com" and read it. But when I go to my gmail inbox on Firefox, it is still unread.

My MacBook and iPhone seem to be sycing Mail and iCal fairly well. I can't seem to figure out why my iMac won't join the party.
I think I have all of the settings turned on correctly in Preferences. I am using a Gmail account, Hotmail account and iCloud account in that order.Â

I do use MobileMe and i know I'll be able to sync my mails that way, but due to the cost of internet connectivity in South Africa, I'd prefer not to be sharing my emails over the internet.
Is there a way that I can wirelessly sync my mails using my Airport?
Something automatic that would initiate the sync when both machines are detected on the network would be 1st prize.
I migrated to iCloud months ago and have been receiving mail on both my Mac and iPhone with no problems until yesterday. I've been on ios 5 and Lion for quite a while and did not update any software in the past few days. Sometime on March 22, mail stopped syncing to BOTH my Mac and iPhone. I also sync gmail to those devices with no problem and I can get my mail through the internet on iCloud.com.
The fact that sync failed on both my devices separately tells me it may be a larger issue? Through Mail on my Mac, I get the following message on the failed sync... The server returned the error: The server "p99-imap.mail.me.com" cannot be contacted on port 993. I've tried deactivating and reactivating, closing and reopening the apps, rebooting and even deleting the mail account on iPhone then reinstalling. Nothing works.

I know this has been covered before as I have seen various threads about this but I haven't solved my issue. I'm having trouble with my iCloud account and more importantly syncing bookmarks and mail.Â
I have an iPhone 4S and iPad 1 which both sync booksmarks and mail fine, I also have an iMac (Lion) which doesn't! Bookmarks don't sync between the mac and iphone/ipad for some weird reason which is my main problem.
Also, I have literally just had an email come through on my phone, but 'Mail' on my iMac says theres nothing, even when I click the 'Get new messages in all accounts' button on the top left of the Mail app, nothing new comes through. It's very strange.Â
I use mail app on my Mac Pro to view my gmail account, now with iCloud how do I sync my mail on my mac pro, iPhone, & iPad so they are all updated as one account. Currently I my mail on my iPhone and iPad update with each, but my mail on my Mac Pro does not. I thought when I updated to Lion I would be able to use iCloud to solve this problem, but it has not.
View 3 Replies View RelatedApple's new OSX Snow Leopard includes native Exchange email sync using Exchange Web Services but it seems that this does not sync emails in the same way outlook does: emails on Mail.app only update when you open a specific folder on your exchange mailbox (like IMAP does) and not like Outlook on windows where folders are updated in the background. does anyone know about this behavior and if it can be changed on Mail to work in the background? I've only tried this on a developer beta (latest version) of SL briefly and noticed this behavior but would like to get feedback from those that may have upgraded.

I am trying to sync mailboxes with two iMac computers through the Mail Application, however I have been deleting messages on one computer and it has not been updating on the other. I tried to see if I can change the account type to IMAP instead of POP but cannot seem to get that to work either.

get my mail from my Local Storage in the On My Mac section of Mail to my Google GMail account? I have been trying to do this by moving this folder by folder by folder and I have not been having luck with this. How to make the contacts I have through the Mail program sync up or copy over to my Address Book? Speaking of which, does anyone know how to delete contacts from my Mail? When I go to send an email it can populate the send field with previously-written to contacts, but I can't seem to delete some I don't need/use. When setting up an iphone to synch with the lion server, why does it only present mail and notes for synch? Is this just how it works, you have to setup the different services seperately for mail, contacts, and calendar? I can't believe that when an iphone has builtin support for exchange.Â
2. I followed [url] to get ical working for AD users. I also followed http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5276 to get push notifications in ical and addressbook working for AD users. It was initially working after following this doc, however now it's not. Even after restarting just get invalid username or password.The log file shows something about an OD crash which seems to coincide with an attempt to login to iCal using AD credentials.
3. I cannot edit user's shortnames via WGM. Even so, it wouldn't accomplish what i need. So i'm fine with just manually creating aliases. I tried to edit the postfix aliases file for a test alias group: user1, user2 Doesn't work even after restarting mail it says it's unknown user. Mailman doesn't work the way i expected. I need to create distrobution groups, not a maillist. Â
