PowerPC :: Quad Processor Using GeForce 6600?

Oct 8, 2008

I am using a G5 Quad processor with a GeForce 6600 graphics card. I am working on a project in Second Life [URL] and have been advised that I need to update the driver on my graphics card to solve some problems encountered in Second Life. There does not seem to be an update for this card for Macs. I have asked Apple for help, but they have told me my serial number does not exist even though it is registered and I have had technical help from them in the past. Second Life say they do not support this graphics card!

MacBook Air :: Playing 1080p MKVs Smoothly / GeForce 320M Support Hardware Acceleration?

Feb 16, 2009

I've never owned a Mac before, but have a couple of friends who love theirs. So when the stunning new Air came out, I decided I'd join them after using only Windows PCs for so many years. I am trying to decide between the 128GB base 11.6" Air and the base 13.3" one. I prefer the form factor of the 11.6", and ideally, I'd just go ahead and get it, because portability is high on my wishlist.

However, my decision hinges on whether the 11.6" can play 1080p MKVs so I can output them to my TV when I'm not mobile.I've read elsewhere that the 11.6" with the 1.4GHz CPU struggles in OSX, but I'd be installing Windows 7 as well, my media player of choice being Media Player Classic. The reason for this is that it supports hardware acceleration of movie files with the GPU, so allows the CPU to be relatively unused, or assists a slow CPU in playing high bitrate/resolution movies.

So, after the drawn out intro, I guess my questions are: Does the GeForce 320M in the Air support hardware acceleration (DXVA) in Media Player Classic in Windows? If yes, is it capable of playing 1080p MKVs smoothly (for example, a 24 minute show weighing in at roughly 1-1.5GB)?

I would really, really appreciate it if some kind soul would be willing to try this out to help me make my buying decision. As I say, it would be my first Mac, so I'm really not sure when it comes to this kind of thing. And I do realise that what I'm asking is ridiculously specific, but I thought that if anyone could help me, it would be you guys.

MacBook :: Lack Of RAM - Dual Core Processor - NVIDIA GeForce 9400M

Nov 26, 2010

With the Introduction of Civilization V for the Mac and its huge need for power. Now i'm not gonna attempt to try to play this game. But I downloaded Ship Simulator Extreme on my windows partition. Now on Steam it has the system requirements.

OS: Windows XP (Min. service pack 2), Windows Vista or Windows 7. 32 and 64 bits OS supported
Processor: 3 Ghz P4 Intel or AMD equivalent processor
Memory: 2GB (Windows XP) or 3GB (Vista or Windows 7)
Hard Disk Space: 3.5 GB
Video Card: Geforce 8800GT or ATI Radeon 4850 with 256MB ram (At least Shader model 3.0)
Sound: DirectX compatible
DirectX: 9.0c

I have a MacBook Aluminium, Intel Core 2 Due 2.0GHz with 2GB Ram and NVIDIA 9400M. The game plays incredibly slowly and keeps jumping, like the refresh rate is so slow. I have downloaded the latest driver from NVIDIA but still it plays slow. Is my problem here the lack of RAM and I have a dual core processor which is above the requirements? I thought the good video card and processor would be enough? A lot of games seem to have minimum requirements much more than my mac, its not ever that old and seems outdated already.

So I was using my second monitor to run my G5 while transferring files to my new 3.2 octo, and then the past week I was using it to transfer my old PC files to my new PC. Now I finally just went to hook it up as my second monitor on my Mac Pro, and found out that I CAN'T FIT BOTH DVI CABLES TO THE PORTS!!!

They're too close together so I can fit one monitor into either port, but not both simultaneously. My monitors are the aluminum 23" ACD's w/ DVI.

OS X :: How To Use Hot Corners With Dual Monitors

Sep 12, 2009

Does anyone know how to get hot corners to work on dual displays? I had a monitor plugged into my MBP 2.5ghz and after changing the relative location of the monitor in display settings, left of main screen to top of main screen, the lower left corner would allow me to access Expose for the applications in the current monitor, instead of exposing all application windows on both screens. This feature is very helpful though I cannot repeat it. Is there a certain orientation of the monitors that will allow each screen to have it's own hot corners functioning for that screen of was this just a fluke?

it would be nice to be working on one screen and watching a movie on the other without the movie expose ing when I only want to expose the applications/windows on the monitor who's corner I accessed.

Intel Mac :: How To Set Up Dual Monitors For It

Apr 24, 2012

I have an intel imac and would like to set up a second monitor to allow for more simultaneous side-by-side space when I do programming/editing.  As I'm not interested in paying $1000+ for an apple monitor, I'd like to use a third party one.  Thus far, I think I need a VGA to MiniDVI adapter [url], but then can I use ANY monitor that has a VGA port?  And then will it be as simple as plugging in the second monitor and detecting it?  Will the iMac screen remain unchanged?  Will the computer just "know" when I scroll across one screen to the other

Windows On Mac :: VM Fusionware And Dual Monitors

Aug 29, 2008

I am a web developer, and we are a Windows shop, but many of us are moving to Macs since we can run both OS X and Windows on the same machine. Well my work is purchasing a Macbook Pro for me, and I'll be hooking up an external monitor to it to replicate the dual monitor setup I have now.

As I learned in the OS X forum, I'm able to specify which programs I would like to launch in which "Space" upon boot. My question is, is VM Fusionware compatible with a dual monitor setup? As an example, could Space "1" contain my OS X desktop on both monitors, and then if I switch over to Space "2" which has VM Fusionware running with Windows, will the windows desktop span both screens as well?

Mac Pro :: Updating To 10.6.3 - Now Dual Monitors Don't Work?

Mar 29, 2010

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 with a flashed ATI Radeon HD 4870 XFX. Had no problems with it ever.

Installed Mac OS X 10.6.3 software update and now the second monitor says No Input detected. Switched second monitor to first monitor and it worked fine, but the second DVI port no longer works.

Need to get this figured ASAP as I have a lot of work to do today... very unhappy with this update. Anyone else having a similar issue or have any thoughts on what to try? I've done everything I can think of.

Do I need to flash it again? Seems silly to have to flash it every time you update the OS. The video card is still recognized in System Profiler. HD 4870 with 1GB GDDDR5 VRAM.
