OS X Yosemite :: Insecure Authentication Required To Receive Mail
Dec 10, 2014
I keep getting a small triangle next to my e-mail inbox that indicates that I can't receive e-mail unless I accept an insecure authentication, checked in advanced in mail preferences. This problem seems to have arrived with my upgrade to Yosemite and it is causing e-mail from my family to be rejected and returned.
I've recently joined/binded to our domain. All appears to be working as expected. Although one message keeps popping up in the finder at random moments. Doesn't seem related to anything that is being done at the time. It says Proxy authenication required. Authentication for HTTP proxy my.proxy.name and has username and password to be filled in.
Where/what logs can be viewed to determine what program is wanting to get thru the proxy? I'm guessing it is an auto-update of something but I've turned everything off that I can find and it still is popping up. Hoping a log somewhere will tell me what is trying to gain access so I can turn off the attempt.
Incoming server is a Road Runner Pop server. Have unchecked the "automatically detect..." box under advanced but does not save password. Connection is fine. Continually get "log-in to this POP account failed. Verify that the username and password is correct."Yes, password is correct, but Mail will not hold it in settings.

I am a graphic designer and I used Lokiware's Attachment Tamer prior to Yosemite. Now that the software is not available für this version of mail (and it seems doubtful that it ever will be) I went back to using Mail without it.
Ever since, some of my clients (using PCs) don't seem to be able to recieve attachments in JPG-Format from me. They just don't show up at their end, as if I wouldn't have attached them in the first place. Putting the files in an ZIP is a workaround, but a very clumsy and frustrating one. Other file formats, such as PDF show up just fine. For a few other clients it still works.

When attempting to move a file that will need administrator authentication, the authentication window to enter a password does not populate. Thus, I am unable to move the file.
We're having problems with the mail app sending mail.
Every link, support forum, etc. says to turn off authentication to fix the problem. However, HOW do you turn off authentication?!
Under Preferences-Accounts-Advanced there is the Authentication drop-down box, which has 5 options: Password, MD5 Challenge-Response, GSSAPI, APOP, and NTLM. I don't see an option for 'None' anywhere!
Often when I put my iMac to sleep in the evening I find the system unresponsive when I come to use it the next day. I can see instantly that the system has an issue because I see that the screen backlight is on. The system does not react to any mouse or keyboard input and requires a power off reset to restart.
I thought that the issue may involve Parallels which is often running when I have this issue , however, I have spoken with Parallels support who recommended removing parallels, repairing the disk permissions and reinstalling Parallels which appears to have had no effect.
The iMac is very new and was purchased in November 2014 and is configured with a 3.5GHz i7 processor, 16GB or RAM 3TB HD and NVIDEA 980 graphics card.

Using Apple Mail on Mac Pro , ver 10.7.4--have RCN as ISP Intermittently I receive a message saying "password rejected by pop server"-- I receive emails properly otherwise but out of nowhere this goes on for weeks. I had this problem on previous OS with Entourage. RCN said it was Apple. Apple said it was Entourage. Switched to Apple Mail now and getting same problem Apple says Under Pref-settings-advanced Use Authenticated Pop, instead of Password-but this doesn't work at all. RCN is useless, have no idea and blames apple. Applecare says " Oh, i don't know anything about AppleMail."

My Gmail account was recently hacked. To stop the damage (malware distribution) I changed my password. This stopped the sending of emails under my email address.
While changing my password, Google suggested I use their implementation of their dual element authentication which comprises a password and, in my case, a SMS address (iPhone number) to which google sends a specific text code (six digits for me) that when I enter it validates the device I am using, either PC MAC or smartphone.
For those apps that cannot handle the SMS (second validation step) Google provides a one-time-password that combines the password and second element so that it can be entered in the single password field of those apps that only have one field.
Fine. This works for non Apple apps such as Outlook for MAC (on my MAC) and Google's gmail app on my iPhone.
But it does not work for Apple MAIL on my MAC or the Apple MAIL on my iPhone.

Would I be correct in saying that if I was to use CC to clone my macbook HDD that I have protected with FileVault while I am logged in with the account that is protected then the backup will be an "insecure" backup and will not be encrypted on the destination disk.
Does anyone know of an easy method to receive a return e-mail receipt using Apple Mail and a .Mac/.Me account. I know that in Windows you can use Outlook to receive/request a return receipt when the receiver opens the e-mail. I believe that even using Microsoft Office Entourage '08 would work as well but I really want to stay all Apple applications if at all possible
I just installed some routine updates for my Mac and now I can't receive any mail in my apple mail program. It is version 4.5 and I am using a mobile me account. I have never had any problems before and obviously very annoyed. I know I can access it view the web but I like apple mail. I am able to send.
I use gmail and have 288 messages to upload, but it gets stuck at email 20. Have gone to gmail.com to delete # 20 email, but the application is still getting stuck. It's also duplicating messages on Mail application.
In Mail Preferences I'm trying to set the default reader to Mail 5.2 but it keeps changing back to Outlook 14.1.4. How can I stop this happening. I updated to Lion yesterday and can't receive mail. Sending is OK but nothing incoming.

I have problems sending mail to people (not everybody) since Google obliged me to change my password on my Google account (attempt breaking-in apparently).
It took me a long time to re-configure everything, I choose the "double" protection from Google (with sms), and my Mac asked me this morning to give several times my Apple ID password, for iMessage, Face Time, etc...)
Now it's not possible to send a mail to my office. It is when I send it via website of Google, NOT when I use "Mail" on my Mac.
This is the message (partly in dutch) : Application-specific password required. Learn more at [URL] .....
I just got my Mac last week and ever since then I haven't been able to send mail from one account. I can both receive and send from my gmail account. My EDU account can only receive mail, and not send it. I've tried resetting the information, and even deleted the account a few times. All of the servers and ports are exactly like the school website says they should be.
After recently installing Lion, in Mail my [URL] email address does not work. I cannot receive mail to this address. Some messages sent from this address do not seem to go out, although they appear in the Sent mailbox. A dialogue box keeps asking for my MobileMe password but does not accept it.I know I'm using the correct PW (although it is old and may not conform to present requirements)
So I've had my macbook since last January but have never been able to get the mail program to function. i set up my email address in the program but have never gotten an email or been able to send one.
any ideas on how to get it working? I'd really like to not have to log on to yahoo every few hours.
