OS X :: Macbook Disk To Install BootCamp On IMac?
May 14, 2009
I just purchased a new iMac and used Boot Camp 2.0 to install Windows XP on a partition. Unfortunately, when I went to use the OS X disk that came with the iMac to install the drivers, the disk was damaged. I am already in the process of getting a replacement disk.
My question is: I have a new Macbook and the OS X disk that came with it. Can I use this OS X disk to install Boot Camp 2.0 on my iMac?

I searched for a while trying to find the answer but did not find it. I just installed Vista Business via Bootcamp. I am not able to access the internet or anything. If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? Or am I just missing something easier?

I have a late 2008 uMB and my friend has a late 2008 uMBP. Is it possible to use my restore disk to install the bootcamp drivers on his computer after he installs windows? Are the drivers all the same, or are they hardware specific like they are with the OSX install? Any help is appreciated,

I got tiger install discs for my emac but I cant get it to run the install. I tried putting the disc in and clicking the restart button on the screen that says "Welcome to Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger", but when I click it it just restarts my computer and does nothing. I then tried the alternate install it did the same thing it did nothing but restarted my eMac. I then tried restarting my computer while holding c key nothing once again. Then I tried holding down apple, option, f , and o keys and then typed in cd boot and also tried cdrom boot nether of them worked so i restarted and tried dvd boot/dvdrom boot nothing worked on all the occasion i got a grey screen with a circle with a line through it. What do I need to do to get these install discs to work?

I have an alu iMac, the kind that apple says could not support x64 bootcamp 2.
Having done a bit of research, I followed the instructions on installing the x64 mac pro bootcamp drivers on this computer, and since then have been using Vista x64.
Now, with snow leopard, I'd like to upgrade to bootcamp 3, and once again I am faced with apple's "this machine isn't supported".
Can someone point me in the right direction to get bootcamp 3 x64 drivers installed?
Would I have to dig up the first gen mac pro x64 drivers?
Is apple supporting x64 on the first gen mac pro?
Should I just install every single x64 driver off of the snow leopard installation disc?

I decided I was going to install XP on a bootcamp partition tonight and everything went fine until I installed the Bootcamp 3 software. After installing the Bootcamp drivers the machine rebooted and I ended up with a black screen in Windows. I did hear the XP welcome music so I figured it was a display driver issue. I rebooted into safe mode and deleted the ATI 4850 driver and restarted. After removing the bootcamp driver everything was normal again other than the fact that I only had the default Windows drivers running.
What am I doing wrong? I installed XP off of an XP disc with SP2 already on it and ran the Bootcamp install off the Snow Leopard disc. Finally, not sure if this matters, I am running one of the new i7 iMacs.

I'm turning my old white imac into a bedroom plex viewer (it will eventually become a kitchen computer) and I want to do a clean install. This was my primary workstation for years before I got my Mac Pro and its just loaded with crap, all of which I've backed up to sort through later
It currently has Tiger and I want to upgrade to Leopard (I bought a family pack for it and my powerbook). I have a bootcamp XP partition which I would like to keep and not destroy. Can I do a clean install except for the windows partition? Or will doing a clean install destroy bootcamp.

I have a 2010 15" MacBook Pro 2.4 i5 that I am trying to install Windows 7 on using BootCamp. I have installed a partition using BootCamp of 45GB but once it prompts me to insert the Windows disk, I insert it but after a few seconds the machine ejects the disk without ever mounting or seemingly recognizing the disk.
I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit from a disk.
Can anyone offer any insight or help me figure out what the problem is? I have already tried rebooting and that doesn't work.

iMac 27" i7 with OS X v 10.6.x when I create the bootcamp partition for windows 7 and I install from my original DVD of Windows 7. I format the partition during the install of windows 7 and on the first reboot after windows 7 first part of the install, the screen shows the Windows 7 logo and says continuing installation and then a black screen and then nothing.
I have to hard power off the iMac and then it starts over says the thing about the system didn't shut down properly and gives me the option to start safe mode etc. and does the same thing each time.

I've had ongoing problems with my iMac freezing, especially during iTunes playback, but otherwise random. No console errors or crash report to go on. I tried a fresh install several times, but the problem was still there. Also tried disk repair etc. I happened to try a defrag tool and it completely screwed my filesystem. As a result I had to do a proper format (zero the disk) before reinstalling. The freezing has now stopped! So if you're getting random freezes for no apparent reason, try zeroing the disk before reinstalling. Perhaps some disks weren't formatted properly before shipping in new Macs? The iMac is a Core 2 Duo 3.06 24-Inch (Early 2008)

4) Wont allow me to safe boot

I have used bootcamp to partition my disk and install windows vista onto my uMB. Now I want to partition the disk again to create a tri boot setup where I can either install ubuntu or the dev preview of snow leopard (I haven't decided yet). Can I just do this with disk utility and shrink my OS X partition in order to create a new partition or will this cause problems with the disk? I would really like to not do a fresh install of OS X because I have had to do this twice to fix disk problems relating to bootcamp.

I have recently done a Time machine back up of my MB Pro 15" then wiped my hard drive trying to clean it up so I could install Windows 7 with Boot Camp. I had my original Install Disk which I forgot was Tiger, Having used one of my brothers company licenses to upgrade to Leopard but that disk is now with him in another country. So now I can not restore from my Time Machine backup. I have a Leopard Install disk for a Macbook Pro 13" which I also own. Is it possible to use this disk to re-install Leopard on my 15"?

I've been trying to install and use BootCamp from Apple, so I can use Visual Basic for my classes. Obviously, I need Windows for this. Anyway, i downloaded BootCamp, installed it, and then Windows XP. After this I was told to insert my OSX disc to get the drivers. Well nothing happened at all. I suppose because this install of Leopard didn't include BC, it was a seperate download.I then read that BC Assistant should give me the option to burn a drivers disc. I looked at the provided screenshots, and right where the button should have been, there was nothing.

First things first, I am running OS 10.7.3 and trying to install using bootcamp. I have so far been able to download and burn the disk for the drivers etc for after installing windows. However when I try and progress to the install of windows and creating the partition I run into a few issues.
First up bootcamp in the progression options only mentions installing windows 7....ignoring that and clicking to the next step I set the amount that I wan't to partition (250GB HDD - partitioning off 50GB) when clicking install I come up against a message saying that the installer disc could not be found. I have no internal disc drive currently as it broke some time back, but I have a samsung external optical drive that I use, loads discs on the computer fine normally, so is it not finding the installer because its not looking for an external drive? Or would it be because it is looking for Windows 7?
I have also tried partitioning the drive using the disc utilities app, although after taking a while about it, it says Partition failed (couldn't modify partition map because file system varification failed) So now I am stumped and can't think of what to try.

So I currently have windows XP running on the boot camp partition of my macbook unibody (Before they were called 'pros') and I want to purchase Windows 7 for this machine, my plan is to use a vista upgrade, then the windows 7 upgrade in order to get Windows 7 home premium on my machine (I get windows 7 upgrade for only $30 seeing as I'm a student)
So I am wondering if there is a way to do the upgrade or if I have to start with a full install every time I want a new version of windows?

I tried installing XP directly onto my new Alu MB yesterday and it didn't work ofcourse, just got stuck during the XP install. The thing is that I do not need Leopard OSX at all, I just want Windows XP (please spare me the "why buy MB if.." questions) But as far as I can see is windows Dependend on OSX and bootcamp being installed? after installing XP with bootcamp there is 4 partitions as show here [URL:...]
GPT partition 200mb
OSX partition 18.8GB
unallocated partiton 129mb .. what's this?
XP partition 129GB
what would happen if I deleted the 19GB OSX partition and the 129mb whatever it is partition? and just left the GPT and XP partition. Would the computer boot? or would that be a nono?

I have a Snow Leopard Install Disk for the 13-inch Macbook Pro model.I also have a 21-inch iMac. I have OS X Lion installed on both. I have Snow Leopard installed as a partition on my Macbook Pro, which I installed via the install disk. I want to do the same thing for my iMac but I am unable due to (seemingly) my install disk is for a Macbook Pro and not for an iMac.
