IMac :: Black Screen After Bootcamp 3 Install?

Dec 1, 2009

I decided I was going to install XP on a bootcamp partition tonight and everything went fine until I installed the Bootcamp 3 software. After installing the Bootcamp drivers the machine rebooted and I ended up with a black screen in Windows. I did hear the XP welcome music so I figured it was a display driver issue. I rebooted into safe mode and deleted the ATI 4850 driver and restarted. After removing the bootcamp driver everything was normal again other than the fact that I only had the default Windows drivers running.

What am I doing wrong? I installed XP off of an XP disc with SP2 already on it and ran the Bootcamp install off the Snow Leopard disc. Finally, not sure if this matters, I am running one of the new i7 iMacs.

IMac :: Unable To Install Windows Xp / Stuck With White Screen

Mar 29, 2010

My brother got an iMac and yesterday he tried to install windows xp with boot camp. But unfortunately he made a mistake and the iMac shut down. Now the mac is stuck with a windows xp in it, and when he tries to start up the computer, it says "the start-up sound" and just stays with white screen. It sounds like the mac reads from the xp cd when it starts, but I can't get the cd out.I have looked everywhere and tried everything:

Hold down the primary mousebutton while it's starting,
Hold down "fn" and the "eject" button while it's starting,
and hold down "alt" while it's starting

I can't find any "pin-hole" to a paperclip or something.

Intel Mac :: Windows BootCamp Screen Goes Black?

Mar 23, 2012

I have a 2009 27" iMac, running Windows 7 x64 with BootCamp, and I'm having a problem when running Windows for more then 5 minutes.

After running it for about 5 minutes, the fans go CRAZY, the system doesnt get too hot though, the LEFT side of my screen starts flickering brightness, while the RIGHT side starts flickering colors. After a few more minutes of this, my screen goes completely black, I know the computer is still running, because I hear my music and the zombie killing me in Minecraft, but my screen, keyboard, and mouse dont seem to respond. I have double checked all drivers, I have updated BootCamp, and my next step was to reformat the drive, but that is my LAST resort.

OS X :: How Long Did The Black Screen Last When Installing Windows Via Bootcamp

Aug 28, 2010

I'm doing this for the nth time now but because it's been so long I've forgotten how long it's supposed to take.

I ran Bootcamp assistant, and installed the windows disc. Next up is a black screen, with a flashing cursor in the top left corner.

Been like that for 15 mins. Has it crashed or is it normal? It's on a brand new MBP so I'd expect it to be faster than when I used to do it on older MBPs

Windows On Mac :: Stuck On Windows Vista Home Premium / Unable To Select Operating System

I installed Windows Vista, and Vista boots up fine. However, I hold down the command keys when starting my computer up again, and it won't let me select Mac OS X. It just starts Vista.

On "My Computer" in Vista I see "Bootcamp (C" and "Macintosh HD (E in my Hard Disks Drives. Also, whenever I start up Vista it tells me something about a wrongly formatted drive. My files are still all in the Mactintosh HD drive, but I don't know how to start up Mac OS X.

OS X :: IMac Bootcamp - Stuck On Flashing Underscore Of Black Screen

However, whenever I want to boot my computer, it tries to go into the Windows Installation, but it gets stuck on the flashing underscore on the top left of the black screen. Henceforth, whenever I want to boot into OSX, I have to hold down both ALT keys. is there any way of fixing this so the iMac boots STRAIGHT into OSX (like normally)

Windows On Mac :: Black Screen With Blinking Cursor On XP Install?

Nov 10, 2006

my Boot Camp install of XP—I successfully partitioned the disk in my new Mac Pro to install XP, but my problem occurs when re-booting to install XP itself. When the machine rebooted the first time to install, it stopped at a black screen with a blinking white cursor, old-school DOS style. Second time when I rebooted and held down Option, it spit out the Windows CD. When I put it back in and it appeared and I tried to select it, it spun up, looked like it was going to work, and then spit it out again, whereupon I got a DOS prompt asking me to put in a bootable volume and press any key. When I inserted the CD, it spun up, but pressing keys on the keyboard did nothing. I tried rebooting again. This time holding option yielded both the Mac HD and the Windows CD (no spitting out!). Taking this as a good sign, I selected the CD and waited. Same black screen with blinking white cursor as last time, no other response, no prompts, never progesses to an installer, pressing keys didn't help.

Has anyone else run into this problem? This is a brand new Mac Pro with the Radeon in it, I have a USB keyboard and mouse hooked up, and it has the latest firmware update.

EDIT: Seems the CD was bad. Slipstreamed SP2 into my original CD and went. Now I just need to get those ATI drivers.

OS X :: Mac Freezes - Black Screen Appears

Jan 21, 2011

G5 Power Mac, 4 gb RAM, OS 10.6. Machine freezes up if: I run a video (1st, 2nd one), use Safari for a few minutes, use Firefox for 1/2 hour, longer if I only have 1 tab open at a time. Occasionally, I get the black screen of death instead, with the #s running about the screen (white font), out of The Matrix. I've run Disk Utilities - RAM checks out okay, cleared out cache, switched to a new HD (old one had been there since I got the Mac, several years ago), these have alleviated but not eliminated the problem. A tech friend suggested thermal grease on the CPU, or replacing the CPU, but don't know if the latter's possible. Oh, and some part is missing that results in the fan running all of the time, like being on a runway.

I'm running both computers on the same wireless network, yet the Vista machine cannot connect to the Mac....can't even ping the Mac IP, as a matter of fact. The IPv4 addresses that show are the router IPs (from ipconfig), and they of course begin 192.168.xxx.xxx.

Windows On Mac :: Way To Install Bootcamp 3 X64 On IMac?

Oct 13, 2009

I have an alu iMac, the kind that apple says could not support x64 bootcamp 2.

Having done a bit of research, I followed the instructions on installing the x64 mac pro bootcamp drivers on this computer, and since then have been using Vista x64.

Now, with snow leopard, I'd like to upgrade to bootcamp 3, and once again I am faced with apple's "this machine isn't supported".

Can someone point me in the right direction to get bootcamp 3 x64 drivers installed?

Would I have to dig up the first gen mac pro x64 drivers?
Is apple supporting x64 on the first gen mac pro?
Should I just install every single x64 driver off of the snow leopard installation disc?

Windows On Mac :: Unable To Login As Admin / Screen Goes Black And Gives Bunch Of Options

Jun 18, 2009

Alright, I FINALLY got windows on my mac and am very proud of myself. However, I am encountering what I hope is a final problem.

I want to log into Windows as an admin, so when it starts up I hit F8. The screen goes black and gives me a bunch of options, I choose "Safe Mode". Everything so far works like it should. But then the log screen appears with two options: Admin and my regular user. Obviously I want admin, but my keyboard and mouse are utterly nonresponsive , even the little caps light won't turn on. This means I'm stuck there, staring at what I want to click but unable to do so. The only button that works is the power button.

Anyone else run into this? More importantly, anyone know how to fix it?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Screen Goes Black Just As The Blue Background Appears?

Apr 26, 2012

I have an iMac 21inch, Late 2009.  I found after it was runing really slow that my hard drive was failing.  It told me there were SMART errors on the drive.  The computer is out of warranty and I'm in the middle of no where so i have no Mac store to take it to.  I bought a new drive, same model, and installed it into the computer.  It turns on fine, but after the Apple logo and spinning coge wheel the screen flashes, shows the blue back ground like its going to load the desktop and then goes black.

I've tried connecting an external monitor to it and shows up like an extended display.  I've tried connecting it to another Mac, a Mini, and the Mini can boot off the iMacs hard drive just fine.  If it Target Disk mode the Mini and boot the iMac I get the same flash of blue desktop then it goes black.

This is where it gets weird though, I'm sure your thinking, ok the screen is going bad...  BUT,  I boot off an Ubuntu CD, or the AHT disk and it loads fine and has no turning black.  Its only when booting into the Mac OS or the installation disk.

One last note is that when its at the black screen and I'm sure its loaded the desktop, if I hold the power button down for about 3-4 seconds, till I hear a click.  I then press the button again right away and the screen flashes on showing me the desktop and everything, for about 2 seconds...

Windows On Mac :: Home Folder Appears Empty Within BootCamp

Dec 9, 2009

Here's my setup:
Mac Pro (early 2009), 8 core
Bay 1: OS X drive - 10.6.2
Bay 2: Boot Camp drive (Windows XP SP3, running Boot Camp drivers v3.0)
Bay 3: Storage drive (HFS+ formatted)

When I boot into Windows, my OS X drive is perfectly viewable, except that the /Users/username folder appears to be completely empty, if I manually type a path (such as D:UsersusernameDesktop or D:UsersusernameDownloads) then the contents will show up perfectly, but when navagating to the D:Usersusername, Windows shows that folder as empty. I'm running just the Boot Camp 3.0 drivers (i.e. no Macdrive), but I also have VMWare Fusion 3.0 installed on my OS X drive, with my Boot Camp partition set up as a virtual machine. Could this be masking the folder contents from Windows?

IMac :: Shows Black Screen - Booting With Windows Partition

No problem if I start through mac partition. If I unplug the USB modem, everything goes fine and I have to plug the modem after starting windows. Is there any solution so that I can permanently plugin the USB modem and avoid booting problem?

Windows On Mac :: Unable To Install IMac/m74 Gddr3_16mx32?

Dec 16, 2009

Newish 20" iMac (black border around glass).

Wiped clean and installed Snow Leopard, ran boot camp wizard and gave the windoze partition 100 GB, then rebooted.

No matter what disc I try to boot from (Windows 7 burned, Windows 7 pressed from microsoft, Windows XP SP3) I just get a black screen with white lettering in the top left that reads:

113-B22505-011 M74 GDDR3_16Mx32 64bit

Haven't been able to find anything on google. I figured the win7 might be problematic due to the way microsoft makes their discs (have had to burn mac-friendly dvd versions in the past) but I can't figure out why the XP cd wouldn't work...

IMac :: Unable To Fix Boot Camp / Can't Install Windows

May 1, 2010

I own every piece of software and hardware from Apple there is and I cannot understand that it seems that everything is about the iPad and iPhone right now. I have been having these issues since I got my 27" iMac. I can install Windows 7 just fine on my MacBook Pro and my previous 24" iMac.

Ever since I got the 27" iMac I get a black screen when installing Windows. I have found some posts that have a way around it, which seemed to have worked but now I am getting the blue screen of death. Doesn't matter if Windows 7 is supported by Apple or not but Boot Camp is and it should be corrected.

There is no excuse that after 6 months this issue has still to be addressed, all Apple talks about now is iPad and iPhone, I am sick of it.
BTW I own an iPad and I don't see the big fuss about it, I bought it mainly to read books and watch Netflix on the go.
