MacBook :: Getting Stuck During XP Install - OSX And Bootcamp
Mar 12, 2009
I tried installing XP directly onto my new Alu MB yesterday and it didn't work ofcourse, just got stuck during the XP install. The thing is that I do not need Leopard OSX at all, I just want Windows XP (please spare me the "why buy MB if.." questions) But as far as I can see is windows Dependend on OSX and bootcamp being installed? after installing XP with bootcamp there is 4 partitions as show here [URL:...]
GPT partition 200mb
OSX partition 18.8GB
unallocated partiton 129mb .. what's this?
XP partition 129GB
what would happen if I deleted the 19GB OSX partition and the 129mb whatever it is partition? and just left the GPT and XP partition. Would the computer boot? or would that be a nono?

I tried to install Parallels for Mac 4.0. In the process of installing Parallels and Windows XP I managed to get a cd stuck in the drive. There is NO icon on the mac desktop. I have uninstalled Parallels according to information if found on the web. It was supposed to be a complete uninstall but I still cannot get the cd out. I am very new to Mac and I am at a loss as to what to do. The stuck cd is NOT an os (such as xp), it was a program cd that I was trying to install in the virtual xp drive in Parallels. Can anyone steer me in the right direction. At this point I can't even do a install because of the stuck disk.

Okay so I have a white MacBook that I'm trying to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard. It's on the latest version of Leopard, 10.5.8. So I have a family pack DVD for Snow Leopard that's got 2 installs left on it. So I decided to go ahead and use one on my MacBook. I put the disc in the drive and I could hear it spinning around in there. But then nothing. My computer won't even read it. It doesn't show up on the desktop, it doesn't show up in disk utility, and pressing the eject button on my keyboard does nothing, like it doesn't even TRY to eject it. I've tried the reboot + holding down the trackpad, it did nothing. I tried typing drutil tray eject in terminal to force it to eject, it also did nothing. It's not like theres anything thats really stopping it from coming out, it literally just won't even attempt to eject the disc.
It seems like my computer isn't even recognizing theres anything in the drive, the fact that it doesn't even show up in disk utility is worrying me. I've used this drive with other discs before, but never had this problem.

Lately, my Lion operating system had become a little buggy, so much so that it eventually wouldn't allow applications like iTunes or safari to open, they would just sit there frozen upon launch. I've had my computer for about 3 1/2 years now and it's accumulated quite a bit of junk over the years, so I wanted to go back and perform a clean install of snow leopard (I'm not sure that I want to go back to using Lion at the moment).I've backed up all my files on an external, and then wiped my hard disk. Now, when I use the white snow leopard install disc, the installation will nearly complete itself and then I get an error saying "Installation failed".I've gone back with disk utility to verify and repair the disk but disk utility told me that there was nothing wrong and that no repairs were needed.

Mid 2009 MBP here. Original disk was failing so I replaced it with a Seagate Momentus XT and Lion refused to install. Formatted the drive correctly and made sure it was GUID partition. Even went as far as removing a memory module because I had heard that having more than 2 Gigs could cause issues during installation. Also made sure that the drive had the latest firmware. Â
Flash forward and I returned the drive and got a Western Digital Scorpio Black and have the same problem: Stuck at 21 minutes. Â
Currently installing with a 10.7.3 USB drive. I've tried numerous times with a 10.7.0 disk as well as the original Snow Leopard restore discs that came with the machine. Is the mid 2009 just incompatible with these drives?

I think I have a non-stable Windows XP on bootcamp that constantly gets suck during boot-up. I can boot in safe mode, but won't let me change the start-up disc to Mac. I'm trying to get back to Leopard Snow, but none of the bootcamp shortcuts (x, option key, etc) work. I am on a wireless keyboard. Is that the problem for the shortcut keys?

I've been trying to install and use BootCamp from Apple, so I can use Visual Basic for my classes. Obviously, I need Windows for this. Anyway, i downloaded BootCamp, installed it, and then Windows XP. After this I was told to insert my OSX disc to get the drivers. Well nothing happened at all. I suppose because this install of Leopard didn't include BC, it was a seperate download.I then read that BC Assistant should give me the option to burn a drivers disc. I looked at the provided screenshots, and right where the button should have been, there was nothing.

I searched for a while trying to find the answer but did not find it. I just installed Vista Business via Bootcamp. I am not able to access the internet or anything. If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? Or am I just missing something easier?

I was partitioning my Disk using BootCamp while trying to install Windows 7 on my MacBook (30GB partition) but my partitioning never ended. The stupid BootCamp got stuck so after one hour I had to turn off my MacBook. I even listened if the HD was working but nothing... The shut down was inevitable.
So I turned on my MacBook again and all seemed fine. That was until I checked my HD capacity! My HD was 30GB less than what I should normally have. Instead of 60GB FREE space I know had 30GB. So I thought that ok, BootCamp must have managed to make the partition even if the MacBook crashed and burned.
No, it hadn't. My 30GB have vanished! I also went to disk utility and used Partition to see if there was any space there but nothing. Disk Utility see my HD as a 250GB disk which is correct. Somehow that 30GB has been recognized as a big chunk of info on my HD so now I am missing 30GB.

My MBP seems to be stuck on "VMware Fusion is preparing your Boot Camp partition to run as a virtual machine. This may take a few minutes. This will only happen once." The bars are still moving and it doesn't appear to have crashed but it's been running for over 2 hours.. is this normal or should I restart it?

First things first, I am running OS 10.7.3 and trying to install using bootcamp. I have so far been able to download and burn the disk for the drivers etc for after installing windows. However when I try and progress to the install of windows and creating the partition I run into a few issues.
First up bootcamp in the progression options only mentions installing windows 7....ignoring that and clicking to the next step I set the amount that I wan't to partition (250GB HDD - partitioning off 50GB) when clicking install I come up against a message saying that the installer disc could not be found. I have no internal disc drive currently as it broke some time back, but I have a samsung external optical drive that I use, loads discs on the computer fine normally, so is it not finding the installer because its not looking for an external drive? Or would it be because it is looking for Windows 7?
I have also tried partitioning the drive using the disc utilities app, although after taking a while about it, it says Partition failed (couldn't modify partition map because file system varification failed) So now I am stumped and can't think of what to try.

I have an alu iMac with a 500GB HDD. There is about 200GB free. Every time I run the Bootcamp Assistant, choose a Windows partition (doesn't matter what size), it sits with the progress bar spinning for ages before it gives me the error "Disk could not be partitioned as some files cannot be moved. Please reformat the disk and try again". There is no way I can back the disk up, reformat, reinstall and re-update everything. No other apps are running when I run the Bootcamp Assistant.

I tried to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp a couple weeks back, but shortly after it failed, I deleted the Bootcamp partition in Bootcamp Assistant. However, whenever I want to boot my computer, it tries to go into the Windows Installation, but it gets stuck on the flashing underscore on the top left of the black screen. Henceforth, whenever I want to boot into OSX, I have to hold down both ALT keys. is there any way of fixing this so the iMac boots STRAIGHT into OSX (like normally)

OS: Snow Leopard Bootcamp Win 7, Ubuntu 9.10.Problem: I felt I would be nice to the iMac and shut it down after a hard days work. I woke up the next morning, turned it on, and it loads up past the gray screen, then goes to the dark blue snow leopard screen. From there I DO NOT get a mouse pointer. I get zip, zilch, nothing.I have let it sit over night just to make sure it wouldn't surprise me. Remedies tried:Booting to safe mode. Boots fine but when it gets to the blue screen it doesn't do anything else.Booting to single user mode. From there I renamed the com.apple.loginwindow and the com.apple.startup file. Didn't do anything.Resetting PRAM, VRAM, ram, jingle bell, any key, * key, I've tried resetting everything possible and not possible. WHY computer gods? WHY?

I just purchased a new iMac and used Boot Camp 2.0 to install Windows XP on a partition. Unfortunately, when I went to use the OS X disk that came with the iMac to install the drivers, the disk was damaged. I am already in the process of getting a replacement disk.
My question is: I have a new Macbook and the OS X disk that came with it. Can I use this OS X disk to install Boot Camp 2.0 on my iMac?

I got the Windows RC1. I installed it perfectly with bootcamp on my macbook pro, no problems, no issues. On that install I partitioned the one and only drive in the notebook. I then went to install it on my Desktop mac pro. I wanted to allocate a complete drive to it, so I dropped in a WD blue in the 3rd bay. Formatted it, I tried both ways. Partitioning & dedicating the entire drive to windows 7. Neither worked. It started the install everything seemed normal until you get to the prompt screen to format the boot camp disk.
Your thoughts....

I'm curious if you can install windows 7 or any windows for that matter on the hdd installed in the optibay and boot via bootcamp?
Has anyone tried this and if so does it work well?
I decided to keep my 15" mbp as today is the last day for the exchange so I'm going to go ahead and install the optibay and stick my 500gb hitachi drive in there.
