IMac :: Black Screen After Bootcamp 3 Install?

Dec 1, 2009

I decided I was going to install XP on a bootcamp partition tonight and everything went fine until I installed the Bootcamp 3 software. After installing the Bootcamp drivers the machine rebooted and I ended up with a black screen in Windows. I did hear the XP welcome music so I figured it was a display driver issue. I rebooted into safe mode and deleted the ATI 4850 driver and restarted. After removing the bootcamp driver everything was normal again other than the fact that I only had the default Windows drivers running.

What am I doing wrong? I installed XP off of an XP disc with SP2 already on it and ran the Bootcamp install off the Snow Leopard disc. Finally, not sure if this matters, I am running one of the new i7 iMacs.

OS X :: IMac Bootcamp - Stuck On Flashing Underscore Of Black Screen

Jul 24, 2009

I tried to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp a couple weeks back, but shortly after it failed, I deleted the Bootcamp partition in Bootcamp Assistant. However, whenever I want to boot my computer, it tries to go into the Windows Installation, but it gets stuck on the flashing underscore on the top left of the black screen. Henceforth, whenever I want to boot into OSX, I have to hold down both ALT keys. is there any way of fixing this so the iMac boots STRAIGHT into OSX (like normally)

OS X V10.5 Leopard :: IMac Screen Went Black - Starts Up With Black Display

May 24, 2012

I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

Software :: Black Screen Installing Win 7 With Bootcamp

Dec 26, 2009

I am new to Mac and to forums. I am trying to install Win 7 with bootcamp. I have a new MacBook Pro and I have bought an OEM version of Win 7 Ultimate. I downloaded it and burnt it to a DVD. The DVD boots on a windows PC but I have the following when I try installing it with bootcamp 3 which came with the installed OSX 10.6: When clicking the "install windows" button the screen goes grey, the computer restarts and then the screen goes black and stays that way. The Windows installation screen never appears. I have tried many items listed in many forums but with no success. There seems to be many similar issues around but I have been unsuccessful using them.

Intel Mac :: Windows BootCamp Screen Goes Black?

Mar 23, 2012

I have a 2009 27" iMac, running Windows 7 x64 with BootCamp, and I'm having a problem when running Windows for more then 5 minutes.

After running it for about 5 minutes, the fans go CRAZY, the system doesnt get too hot though, the LEFT side of my screen starts flickering brightness, while the RIGHT side starts flickering colors. After a few more minutes of this, my screen goes completely black, I know the computer is still running, because I hear my music and the zombie killing me in Minecraft, but my screen, keyboard, and mouse dont seem to respond. I have double checked all drivers, I have updated BootCamp, and my next step was to reformat the drive, but that is my LAST resort.

OS X :: How Long Did The Black Screen Last When Installing Windows Via Bootcamp

Aug 28, 2010

I'm doing this for the nth time now but because it's been so long I've forgotten how long it's supposed to take.

I ran Bootcamp assistant, and installed the windows disc. Next up is a black screen, with a flashing cursor in the top left corner.

Been like that for 15 mins. Has it crashed or is it normal? It's on a brand new MBP so I'd expect it to be faster than when I used to do it on older MBPs

Software :: Screen Went Black On Selecting BootCamp Icon

Feb 15, 2010

Couple of weeks ago my Mac Pro died. Anyway it turned out that the mother board and graphics card had over heated and failed due to dust from building work. So I've got it back from the repair shop now, the mac side is working fine, no complaints at all but bootcamp isn't so happy. When I first tried to boot into vista after getting the comp back, I restarted, selected the bootcamp icon and then the screen just went black. The light on the monitor went dim like it does when the computer is asleep and that's it. I didn't have anything important on the partition so I just removed it and repartitioned, witch seemed to go fine. But then when I put the vista disk in to install the same thing happens again. Screen goes black the CD spins up really fast but nothing else.

MacBook Pro :: Black Screen On It When Starting From Bootcamp To Lion

Apr 1, 2012

I bought a MacBook Pro 17inch i7 in November 2010 and it was working fine under Snow Leopard and Lion since then. Yesterday I installed Bootcamp and it was workng also. Today when starting from Bootcamp to Lion I had a Kernel Panic (had this never before) and the screen turned black. I just have the energy cable connencted to it, the computer starts somehow (noise) but no Startsound and screen keeps black. Then I made a little mistake by inserting a LION installer DVD. Cannot get this out anymore, even when I press the trackpad when starting it. I changed the internal hard drive to be sure that the problem does not come from there. I reset the PRAM. I reset the SMC. No way to get the laptop back to work.

Windows On Mac :: Black Screen With Blinking Cursor On XP Install?

Nov 10, 2006

my Boot Camp install of XP—I successfully partitioned the disk in my new Mac Pro to install XP, but my problem occurs when re-booting to install XP itself. When the machine rebooted the first time to install, it stopped at a black screen with a blinking white cursor, old-school DOS style. Second time when I rebooted and held down Option, it spit out the Windows CD. When I put it back in and it appeared and I tried to select it, it spun up, looked like it was going to work, and then spit it out again, whereupon I got a DOS prompt asking me to put in a bootable volume and press any key. When I inserted the CD, it spun up, but pressing keys on the keyboard did nothing. I tried rebooting again. This time holding option yielded both the Mac HD and the Windows CD (no spitting out!). Taking this as a good sign, I selected the CD and waited. Same black screen with blinking white cursor as last time, no other response, no prompts, never progesses to an installer, pressing keys didn't help.

Has anyone else run into this problem? This is a brand new Mac Pro with the Radeon in it, I have a USB keyboard and mouse hooked up, and it has the latest firmware update.

EDIT: Seems the CD was bad. Slipstreamed SP2 into my original CD and went. Now I just need to get those ATI drivers.

Windows On Mac :: Way To Install Bootcamp 3 X64 On IMac?

Oct 13, 2009

I have an alu iMac, the kind that apple says could not support x64 bootcamp 2.

Having done a bit of research, I followed the instructions on installing the x64 mac pro bootcamp drivers on this computer, and since then have been using Vista x64.

Now, with snow leopard, I'd like to upgrade to bootcamp 3, and once again I am faced with apple's "this machine isn't supported".

Can someone point me in the right direction to get bootcamp 3 x64 drivers installed?

Would I have to dig up the first gen mac pro x64 drivers?
Is apple supporting x64 on the first gen mac pro?
Should I just install every single x64 driver off of the snow leopard installation disc?

IMac :: 2006 Screen Goes Black?

Aug 4, 2009

Let me start by saying I have swapped the ram in the computer and the problem persists. I've also tried resetting the PRAM. I have unplugged all devices except the keyboard and mouse. I have reformatted and installed OS X Leopard, Tiger and Snow Leopard. I have even encountered this issue while the computer was running from the install disk. I'm pretty sure software, ram and third party devices can be eliminated from the possible causes. The computer continues to run after the screen goes black. I am connected to it right now using screen sharing, so I know the computer is still working. Putting the computer to sleep and then waking it up temporarily brings the screen back until its next random blackout. I have opened the computer to replace a dead HD, so I suppose it is possible that I knocked something in the process, but I did that back in December and the problem is a relatively recent development. I would really prefer to fix this myself, if I could only figure out what the problem is.

IMac :: Screen Goes Black And Unresponsive

Mar 31, 2010

I have been experiencing some unusual problems with my imac. While on the internet today my computer crashed on me twice, the first time the screen just showed a bunch of vertical lines, the second it flashed some random colors then went black. After the screen change the computer was unresponsive. I have a bad feeling, is it due to overheating, a bad logic board or something else. This is the first time I have ever experienced this on a mac. Has anyone had any simiar issues? Or am I up **** creek? I can't really afford a new computer seeing that I just bought an iPad (it comes Saturday). I am not sure if my computer is still under apple care and even if it was I won't get it back by the time I have to go back to college. I attached a screen shot of my computer temps.

IMac PPC :: G4 PPC Black Screen On Startup?

Mar 19, 2012

I have been limping along for quite some time with a recurring problem with my PPC Flat Panel iMac G4.Sometimes when starting up I would get a black screen. The unit chimes at startup but the screen would stay black.I found that I was able to fix (temporary) the problem by removing the bottom plate and pushing the reset button under the base.(After shutting down and unplugging the unit.) after the startup chime, the screen turned gray with a folder icon in the center with a blinking question mark. After shutting down and restarting, this happened again 3 times. On the 4th shutdown/startup it went back to the black screen.Repeated shutdown/restarts have no effect.Shutting down, unplugging the unit and pushing the reset button is also having no effect.I hear the startup chime every time. Black screen every time as well now.

It currently has Tiger and I want to upgrade to Leopard (I bought a family pack for it and my powerbook). I have a bootcamp XP partition which I would like to keep and not destroy. Can I do a clean install except for the windows partition? Or will doing a clean install destroy bootcamp.

IMac (Intel) :: Black Screen On Wake - OS X 10.9.3

Jun 1, 2014

This just started yesterday (May 31st). I keep everything updated as it comes out and nothing new has been installed in the last couple of days.

When I need I wake up my iMac (now requiring a keystroke or mouse press instead of just moving the mouse), the screen comes up black, but the cursor is there and moves around fine.

It stays black for a while (15 seconds or longer, but it feels like forever) and then it finally comes up completely.

Desktops :: IMac G3 Slot Loading - Screen Go Black?

Aug 11, 2009

The screen/crt of the imac that I have been using since about '98 went black - this actually happened a couple times previously but I was able to get back in (no idea - one of those things where out of frustration you just start pushing everything at once and it suddenly pops back on). I have tried everything - the internal battery, that little button on the motherboard (not sure if that is what it is called) that resets everything, the connection of the main power button on the front, etc. I am fairly sure it is stuck in sleep-mode or something (no beeps, hard drive doesn't make the usual booting-up sounds but you can tell that it is receiving power) but after months of wasted effort I finally gave up. I bought another slot-loading G3 and would like to swap hard-drives between the two - I have taken my old G3 completely apart so many times that I am totally comfortable with that aspect but have hesitated because if I somehow blow this one I will be left with nothing.

IMac :: Black Screen Display When Wake Up From Sleep

Dec 21, 2010

For the past few weeks it has been going to a black screen when trying to wake it up from sleep. Either I've put it through too much work lately editing all these photos and its really tired. So, often it wakes up normally and functions fine, well, not really. It is seemingly very slow. It requires a lot of time (more than before) to open up a program or it gives me the "spinning wheel of death" when trying to go to a different page on the internet or open up a folder on my desktop. Amongst other things that require it to think. So It's just a lot slower in general than before.
