I have a macbook pro with Mac OS X 10.5.8 with a 2.26 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Recently I've been having a problem with my computer when applications would randomly stop to respond for a few seconds, until after a while they wouldn't start again and I'd have to restart it. I don't know what to do. I'm a fairly new Apple user.
View 3 RepliesI used to open up GarageBand 09 normally and it would take about 10-20 seconds. Now it takes a couple of minutes while it says its not responding. I don't think this is normal. Also sometimes when I am scrolling down through software instruments it randomly freezes and then shuts down unexpectedly. I have the new 13.3" 2.4ghz macbook. i have alot of free space and no files in the GB folder. I haven't touched anything regarding the system's font, new or old.
View 2 Replies View Relatedbluetooth on my 2013 MBP. I have a magic mouse and it randomly stops responding. At first I thought it was a problem with the mouse itself. I changed the batteries,To solve the problem and to get the mouse to work again, I have to actually restart my computer.
Then I realized that when my magic mouse acts up, if I open the Bluetooth preferences, in the spot where the name of my computer should be is this weird message that says "do not localize, name not available" So I've finally realized that the problems I'm having aren't with the mouse but actually the Bluetooth in the computer, either it's a hardware issue with the Bluetooth hardware or the driver is defective. Again, when I restart, I'm able to use my magic mouse again. And when Bluetooth is acting up, when I do try to open Bluetooth preferences, I get the beach ball and everything starts to hang.
I'm attaching pictures of what the Bluetooth preferences screen shows under normal operation with the name of my MBP and showing the mouse is connected and a picture of what the Bluetooth preferences window shows when it's acting up. Is the Bluetooth defective?
I have had this problem for the last year but have worked around it by manually shutting down the system. My mac will not shutdown on command or restart during a program update or by going to the apple and trying g to restart. I have tried on numerous attempts to find a related topic but there is none to my knowledge.

This is my biggest software design pet peeves. I hate when applications make too many choices for the user. Don't get me wrong, I don't like when a program asks the same question over and over again either. So I'm using firefox and I had about four or five windows open. And it froze up for over five minutes so I force killed it. When I opened it again it automatically tried to open all those websites I had open before - all at the same time. This isn't even a bug, it's the designers bad choice. I don't even need them open. I was only still using one. And I don't know which one caused the freeze (probably a flash heavy website like abercrombie) but I certainly don't want to open that one again. I'm trying to get Firefox to not do this anymore.

This was the first time it happened with my iMac since I bought it two years ago. I was just simply browsing the Internet, doing email, and word processing.
The two most recent changes I made to both of them were installing dropbox and adding clicktoflash extension.
My wife has a G4 iBook 1.33 GHz power pc, 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM, L2 cache 133 mHz, with Mac OSX - leopard - several times a day the following prompt appears - "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button".
View 12 Replies View RelatedRecently, my iMac 27" i7 has begun hanging in the most bizarre fashion. It usually seems to happen when I wake the computer from sleep or screen saver, but that isn't always the case. What will happen is that when I get to the computer, Mail will show symbology that indicates it is not connected to the Internet or Safari, upon booting, will not open a webpage (it sits on a white screen rather than delivering an error). I'll go to quit one of the offending programs, and it will not quit and beach balls instead. I then right click on the dock to trigger a force quit, and the force quit does nothing and the dock beachballs. I try to restart/shut down, and nothing happens. Thus I am forced to hard restart.
Conversely, I am sometimes able to get an offending program to force quit, but the rest of the computer (anything I click locks up) beachballs leaving me to hard restart. I find when this happens, my first instinct is to click system prefs and go to networking, where when I click networking, it locks up. Then I have to hard restart. Finally, there are times when it does respond to a restart request. It will go through the restart process up to the blue screen at the end, where the little spinning doohickey will appear and stay there indefinitely, forcing me to hard restart. It didn't seem to happen before I got my iPad but happens about every other day now.
At first it seemed to happen after I had my iPad charge from my computer, but now it seems to happen regardless. One time it hung while syncing with my iPhone and required me to restore it since the phone got messed up. I've done everything I can think to do to get to the source of the problem and I can't figure it out. I've looked through logs and didn't see problems (granted, I don't know if I'm looking at correct logs or if I'm looking for the right events). I have repaired permissions, and that seemed to help but not fix the problem. I bridge my iPad to my computer through Internet connection sharing, since I have an Ethernet internet connection. I created Automator work flows to turn it on and off (and AirPort) as I never leave it on when not using it.
Ever since I replaced the RAM in my mid-2009 MacBook Pro from 2gb to 8gb, My Mac randomly locks down and displays: "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again." Here is a picture of the screen when this problem happened on start up:

I am sharing my internet connect, that I get with an ethernet port, through my airport card on my PowerMac MDD. It only goes for a few hours though, before it randomly shuts off. Do you know what could be causing this? I can't figure it out. I have OSX Leopard installed.

I have successfully created a script to resize images. Now, everytime I clik on a file or on a folder Automator runs that script and I get promped to select the file to resize. How do I stop or control this?

I have found the past 4 weeks that my iMac will not respond to any mouse movement, keyboard, trackpad or pushing the power button every 5 days or so. I must unplug from the wall, replug into wall then push power button, then it boots up. I have had iMac for 9 months and has always just went to sleep and when I move mouse awakens. After I must unplug, it works correctly again for 5 to 6 days then must be unplugged again. Anyone know why this is happening as I do not believe any settings have been changed and I am the only user of this iMac.

If I go to the Apple Menu and restart, when the computer restarts I want to see nothing other than my desktop. However, regardless of whether "Close windows when quitting an app" in System Preferences > General is checked, the apps (and their respective tabs/windows/documents) pop up, too.
App state persistence, reopening apps on start, resume — whatever it's called, I want to disable it. It's super annoying. As mentioned, I tried the checkbox in System Preferences (checked and unchecked), and cannot find anything else that even refers to this. Happens on my Late 2012 Mac Mini and Late 2012 13" MacBook Pro.

My computer stop responding so I had to force restart finder. Now my active programs indicator is not working. How do I get it to work again? I have tried shutting down my computer and that didn't work. I deleted and re-copied over the files, but that didn't work either.

I have tried deleting my preferences, fixing permissions, removing plugins from Library/Quicktime.
My mid-2014 15" Macbook Pro randomly "loses" its retina display at the top menu (becomes pixel-y), where the battery, sound, and wifi logos are (on the top right side of the screen). A restart fixes the issue, but I want to know if this is an issue that can be fixed?

I'm using iGetter version 2.8 and it's great. Downloads are quick, but I have one concern about the program. It randomly shuts down every 5-10 mins or so. The downloads aren't finished downloading and iGetter shuts down.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Snow Leopard about a week ago on my MacBook Pro (purchased in early 2006). Since then I randomly get a blue screen and all the open applications shut down. I then have to re-open them. I can't see a pattern but I mostly use Microsoft Office for Mac and it occurs when I am in the middle of a word or excel document. I have found no reference online to this sort of problem. I have not installed any other new software or hardware during this time.

I've had it installed and running fine for a number of years on my computer (leopard), but maybe a couple months ago, I noticed a google earth dmg will randomly mount on my desktop, appear for a few seconds and then disappear. This happens like maybe once a week. I have tried desperately to find the file that is mounting in order to delete but I cannot. I also tried uninstalling google earth and then reinstalling.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't know why, but iTunes entirely too often on my computer. I use a 15" MBP running 10.6.4 (The latest version of SL). I'm using iTunes 10, but I was having this issue prior to the update. It crashes seemingly randomly sometimes when I finish an album, sometimes between songs, and sometimes just mid-song. Restarting seemed to help once, but it eventually started crashing again, and all subsequent reboots have had no effect. I have about 21 GB of music, mostly pirated (though let's not get into that debate); I listen to music by the album. My library is completely music (no TV shows, podcasts, etc.). Am I the only one sending them 20 enraged error messages a day?
